Cleaning out!!

Some days you just can't get it all done! I get busy as soon as my feet hit the floor at 5:30 every morning...and before I can turn around, it's bed time again!

Eli stopped to rest in the cool grass...well, it's not really grass, but mowed weeds...

that's okay, weeds make a good resting spot too.

Whoever said, "A man may work from sun to sun, but a woman's work is never done", hit the nail on the head!

We have done some big time cleaning out and hauling away lately. Why, I've carried three car loads...packed to gills...to donate. First load to Goodwill, and the other two went to Safe Space.

Busy in the kitchen late yesterday, Poppy said, Mel, you've got to see this! It's perfect for your blog! A little squirrel balancing on top of the clothesline prop, eating a peach he stole off the tree, (not a very good picture, taken through the kitchen window), but he was so cute.

Oh yes! I was washing supper dishes at eight o'clock last night and still had to put the clean sheets and bedspread on the bed.

Yuk! Don't you hate it when you're dead tired and remember that you took the sheets off the bed and washed them, and now the bed has to be made.

See, some folks got a break, before the sheets were back on the bed. :) My hands were still in the hot dishwater.

So, by the time I can sit down for a few minutes, it's bedtime! and there go my big plans for sewing...to make a bonnet, finish an apron.

Speaking of aprons, I have at least three new ones finished to put in the teeny tiny shop...Here's one...

This fabric is "Little House on the Prairie", and cute as can be.

found it on line and ordered the last two yards available.

Okay, Poppy just woke up from a little nap and Eli is telling us it's time for a walk...so my time at the computer is up.

I'm very proud to have a new follower...Thank you Willie!

Love,
Henny

  1. Love seeing Eli, he's such a beautiful boy, and always so clean :)
I have been 'mucking out' too, my hardest problem is turning loose of so many things that I enjoy having.
Goodwill got a carload from me this week.
I changed the sheets yesterday, and forgot to put them back on, until bedtime and then it was 10pm....bugger.
Storms here all night, I thought of you, and hoped they won't be heading your way.
    Hugs,
    ~Jo

  2. Amazing how clean his fur is, my dog Zelda's white fur would always look a little dirty

  3. I really like the apron and the fabric it's made from. I've just found a new pattern on eBay; now to go through the "fabric hoard" and find a piece to make it from. Things look very pretty and green at your place. We've finally had rain so things are looking better here.

  4. I know exactly what you are talking about. I always have more on my list of things to do that I ever get done. I get up and start about 6 A.M. and if Steve isn't home I usually don't take a break until he's home from work, and then there are still chores to do. He used to come home and his first words were, What's for dinner? . . . I put an end to that . . . I told him that he should always say, Hi Honey how was your day, and after he says that, it is okay to say, What's for diner? LOL.
One of the worst things is being dead tired and remembering that the sheets are on the line. Maybe that is why they are easy to forget, they are the only thing that I line dry. We just love the smell that the sun give line dried sheets. It makes for sweet dreams and smells like my childhood and Momma's sheets.
    Love that apron!
    Connie :)

  5. Things always look beautiful around your place! I need to take a lesson from you and collect up a lot for Goodwill - we keep running out of room around here. My goodness, where do you sleep Henny? Looks like Eli takes up half the bed! ; ) He sure looks cuddly! The new fabric is super cute - I bet that apron sells fast. Take care Henny!

  6. You are a busy lady! That green patch of green weeds looks like the perfect place for a little rest for a fur baby. Your aprons are gorgeous. Love the pattern and the Little House on the Prairie fabric is adorable. Enjoy those lovely sunny days of yours!

  7. Busy busy busy. I know what you mean. It seems like we are always either getting up or going to bed.
But it is better to be busy than bored with nothing to do.
I wonder who those people could be, bored with nothing to do?! : )
That happens to me with the sheets sometimes too! Though yesterday they dried so fast outside that they were back on the bed by 11:00 in the morning. : )
    Great capture of the squirrel.

  8. Isn't that the truth! Even though I don't have all the things you do, it still seems there aren't enough hours in the day. My problem is that I keep the grandbabies so everything around here waits until they go home and then I bust my tail trying to get everything done within the few hours I have left! That's ok with me because I would rather play with the Grands than do house and yard work, any day! LoL Love the picture of that little squirrel!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

Henny, I bet you have close to a zillion followers by now! Your blog is always so interesting and with great pictures too. Love your new apron. And isn't that squirrel the cutest! Your yard looks great! Sorry you have too much work for the hours available....you sure work hard around your place. Looks like other "people" didn't need that bed made! :)

  10. I'm not sure if Poppy or Eli care about the clean sheets... but yes, we've all done that (washing and then forgetting until the last minute to put them back on).

  11. The latest apron with the "Little House on the Prairie" fabric is my favourite of all the aprons you've sewn. The blue trim just makes it complete.

You are such a hard worker dear Henny Penny. And you get a LOT done. I'm surprised there's anything left to do!!

  13. Hi Henny...Another fun blog post. I am finally getting around to read them tonight. You exhaust me with all the work you do in one day but I know you love your home, your land and your family and wouldn't have it any other way. :)
I would have been tempted though to just put the sheets on top of those two sleeping beauties and gone off to a bed that was made myself. lolLove to all.

  14. Not fun when you are ready to fall into bed but you hae to make it first. You do have two sets of hands in that house, BTW. I'll bet Eli would help if he could.

  15. I would have loved to see that squirrel eating the peach. We have a "squirrel-proof" bird feeder that is a challenge every summer to at least one of the younger squirrels. It's fun to watch them. This summer's young one has figured out a way to get one seed at a time by hanging off the roof of the feeder and barely touching the rest of it. The perch goes down with weight on it and its hinge shuts off the seeds, like a garage door shutting. My husband put some grease on the edge of the lid yesterday and we watched the squirrel slip and slide over the edge to the perch which went down and shut off the seeds. He worked out there a long time and we grinned a lot. He won't go hungry; there's lots of other things around here for him to eat. I know how you feel about having to make the bed when all you want to do is get in it. But I gave my comforter which I used as a spread, and pillow shams to Goodwill. I don't cover the sheets any more. I fold them back halfway every morning and smooth them out. My husband has allergies and I read that by making the bed and covering up the place you sleep, you don't allow the moisture from your body to evaporate and it makes allergies worse. I decided then and there to get rid of the bed coverings. It was worth a try. I'd had them for many years and would still be using them if not for that. I thought they were beautiful. But I don't miss making the bed every morning. It's straightened, not "made". We don't have Safe Space here. It sound like a shelter. I keep a box or bag at the end of my dresser and put things in it pretty regularly. When it gets full, off it goes. I need to take a week and do nothing but clean out closets and cabinets. I keep things way too long. It feels good to get rid of excess. Stay cool. This heat wave is going to get worse before it gets better.

    1. Hey Peg. Squirrel are fun to watch. Dan hates them because they tear up everything but I love the little rascals and like to feed them. We have a squirrel proof bird feeder that works like you described yours. Its amazing to watch how determined they are to get to the feed. Safe Space is a thrift store here in town and the money goes to help abused women. It's a good one!

I have a few novelty pinnies, ones to wear for
dinner parties, if my guests don't see me in one,
they'll think something is wrong...! :).

and about, better still, nice to see them in the
'oven' ooooops! Not forgetting the Cranberry sauce

  20. You put me to shame!!! I have to force myself out of bed and I'm not up until 7am--ish... It's such a struggle. I love the Little House print on the apron, but the style is also very good. Eli is so beautiful.

  22. squirrels are so cute. We have a few at work, that love the pine trees. And yes, I hate forgetting to put the sheets back on the bed, when all you want to do is crawl in RIGHT.NOW. ;)

  23. Yes, you put me to shame too! It's funny you should mention the clean sheet thing...I have done that so many times...before you know it, it's bedtime and the bed is still stripped naked! It's usually not because I have just been so busy though, it's mostly because I forgot! That apron fabric is adorable!

  25. I do think "clearing out" and donating stuff takes SO much time and fills your days when you do it. Basically you're going through all your possessions and evaluating and bagging things up, and putting things back ... Hopefully you'll have more free time soon now that that task is done. Your apron is so pretty! I love its shape. And the squirrel is delightful. I bet he thinks he's got a prime location!
