Playhouse, mine and the chicken's

When I first started piling limbs on that big old stump inside the chicken lot, Poppy said, all you're doing is making a place for a snake to hide.

But the chickens love this spot! It's fun to watch them. They are like children playing on a jungle gym.

Chickens get bored. Why sometimes I look out and all of them will be sitting on top of the stump. Right now there are leaves on the new limbs, but they will soon fall off.

The fun part of having animals is fixing for them. The weather has been too hot and humid lately...

but I want to work on the three bunny's homes again.

Do you like "before" and "after" pictures?

I was looking for another chicken picture and happened upon this one of the greenhouse...
oh my gosh, how clean! and how plain! Seems like it was early spring here and the trees were still bare.

then came the long legged tower, and a little red dust from the road had settled on the greenhouse.

then the fence panels, and Poppy asking if I would ever get things right up here. :)

Lots of stuff! Let's see. Here, we've added the little latticework panel to fill in the gap between the fence and the greenhouse, and a little frog climbing the wall.

Better go. Poppy will be here in about thirty minutes. The weather here today is gorgeous!! That awful humidity is gone, the sun is shining, there is a breeze. I have mowed, pulled weeds, raked pine straw, and dug up more Iris.

Thank you for visiting.

Love,
Henny

  1. What a cozy greenhouse! If I were a plant, that's where I'd want to be.

  2. Dear Henny, after reading your blog a few weeks ago, I ordered the " Watkins Cook Book" on amazon, WOW what a lovely book!!! It even has a hand written message in it from 1936!! I love it! :) xx

  5. Those chickens do look like kids on a recess break. Your tall tower is looking good with it's roof shingles and wreath in the back. Thanks for giving us an update.

  6. I do like before/after photos, fun to watch the progress. I had no idea that chickens got bored.

  7. I've never given it much thought but you're probably right about chickens getting bored. I wonder, do bunnies also get bored? Mine doesn't care for toilet paper rolls ( empty ones) or the compressed hay tunnels. She likes to chew on the inside of her wooden cage but NOT on nice twigs. Really all she wants is for me to pat her all day and I really must do other things which she finds hard to believe it seems!!

  9. Today was such a beautiful day here, too! I'm not sure I accomplished as much as you did, but I surely did enjoy the lower humidity. You must be pleased with the way your "playhouse" turned out. Before and after pictures are so fun.

  10. Chickens do get bored. I know some people make them swings and hang food from string and such. Your branches might draw worms, too. Before they look inviting to a snake. Hopefully your fence will keep snakes out.
You all be safe and God bless.

  11. I like the chicken jungle gym you made them. Where did you get your greenhouse? I want one so bad. Hope you and Poppy are doing well. Love you both!

  12. Our hens love to explore and 'play', they would love your gym though I am not sure how they would react to a snake! Eeek! The area around your long-legged tower is enchanting.

  16. Did I miss the release of the little wild bunny? Your greenhouse looks so lovely and inviting now with all the neat things around it. I think you should have a comfortable chair there just to sit and think!

    1. No Cynthia, I tried to release the bunny this morning and he would not hop out the door. He obviously likes his little home, and I love him. Guess it won't hurt to wait another day or two. I do need a chair at the greenhouse. Lots of times I need to sit and think! :)

We have still had only .02 in of rain since June 17th. Tomorrow it will start heating up again.

  23. Hi Henny, love what you did for the chickens! It is a fun part about owning animals. And I think they appreciate it.
Your playhouse looks wonderful. I would love to sit there and have a cup of tea....and possibly a cookie or two!
    Take care.

  24. Oh you are much too busy for me today- now I need a nap. LOL! Are your chairs wood or plastic and where did you get them? They are exactly what I want. Also, are you linen dolls dressable? I am into prim and trying to find a good pattern for prim dolls made out of tea stained linen, and dressable for seasons, as I want to use them in dough bowls. Do you have a good pattern?

  25. What a good idea for the hens. I'll work on that, although their penned in area looks much smaller than yours. Still...

  26. I like making things more fun for the chickens too! I really enjoy your posts, and am so happy we have met in "blogland"... it is wonderful to see our animals happy, isn't it! I would be worried about a snake though... lol!
