Busy cleaning and a birthday
For the last few nights, seriously, I have been trying to post something on my blog, but realize when I sit down at the computer, just how tired I am. I've been terribly busy since that snow and ice melted. Tell me, why is melting snow so much wetter and messier than rain?
What a muddy sloppy mess we have here. Our country dirt road looks like a part of the Alabama Mud Fest. And the goat's lot, more like a pig pen. The last two days, I've pushed load after load of pine straw and spread it in the goat lot and in the chicken lot.
and speaking of the last two days...it has been like springtime! 69 degrees and sunny! Why we jumped from record breaking cold, right into spring weather.
warm enough even for lunch on the back porch. Not a very pretty set table but it was fun.
Guess who has a birthday today. Our sweet Eli. Three years old already.
Seems like it was just yesterday that Poppy and I drove to the little town of Micro to bring baby Eli home.

Eli is our guard dog, even if does carry his teddy bear for company. What in the world did we do for entertainment before Eli came along?
We bought Eli a birthday party hat, thinking we would get a cute picture, but absolutely not! As long as that silly hat was in the house, he would stay on the porch!

Eli has always be a beautiful dog. It sounds wonderful to be eating on the porch . . . I'm ready for warm weather, it was -8 here this morning.

ReplyDeleteHow I wish for some warmish days here. Let's see.... 69 would be 21 here. How lovely that would feel. The ups and downs of temperature must be very hard on your plants though.
Thank you! The spring-like weather in January does hurt the plants. They come out thinking it's spring, then everything freezes.

DeleteLunch on the back porch and 69 degrees...sounds wonderful. It is -16C here this morning. How do we survive here, I ask ya? I put out bagels, suet and seed for the wild-life today, poor things. "happy birthday" sweet Eli. I just love him and hope he has a wonderful year. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb. I can't even imaging weather that cold. Usually our worst winter month is February, so it's not over yet, but rarely do we get down in the single digit temperatures.
DeleteIt is SO good to see a post up from you. I've missed you, friend! It sounds as though you have been SUPER busy with hauling all of the straw to the pens for the goats and chickens to make them comfortable.

Happy Birthday to Eli! He is so adorable! I love it that he won't come in the house because of the party hat! He knows you'd take a picture and go public with it. Apparently he thinks that at the age of three he is a big boy now and doesn't want to be seen in party hats. :)

Thank you, Dianna. It has been crazy this week, but then it seems like I say that every week. I'm afraid February will be our real winter month, but if we get through February, spring is just around the corner. :)

Happy third Birthday Eli! He was a very cute puppy, but then aren't all puppies?? Enjoying the puppy and the puppy mischief (mostly) here:-) We will be in the same boat with melting snow and the mess this coming week. Looking forward to the snow being gone, but not the transition.

ReplyDeleteEli is a gorgeous dog. Magnificent would be a better word for him. Is he as good a guard dog as he is a cuddle-bug? So cute he has his teddy bear.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about mud. I prefer snow and ice to mud. Mud is almost impossible to work in when you have poultry and livestock to keep clean and dry.
Completely understand not being able to blog when you're tired. That has been my blogging problem these past few months. So much work to do every day to get settled in here and when I finally have time to blog I am dead tired so I end up shutting the computer down and toodling off to bed. Kudos to you for following through anyway !
