String to Strings

At the moment, Poppy is in the woods sitting in a tree. When he left he said, I'll be back when it starts raining.

I've added another string. This ball holds every string off every bag of feed we've opened since 1989. It is a very slow growing ball but when you think about starting with just one string, well.

A favorite little shelf above our Crosley Record Player (reproduction, of course), which, by the way, I still love to play the old records on.

Poppy and I have a ton of old record albums. Several are from back in the early 1960's and belonged to Lynn and Andee's Dad and me. Long before Poppy and I ever met.

Some of the best music here belonged to Poppy back his single days in the 70's and 80's...back when music was good!

Then there are my favorite added in here and there. Well I did buy a few along the way.

Everything from Alabama to ZZ Top lined up here in alphabetical order. Out of the bunch, my favorite would have to be Luciano Pavarotti. As Lynn would say, be still my heart!

Now when I'm busy sewing at night, alone in my little sewing room, I listen to Bluegrass music. Guess maybe I like lots of different kinds of music. I do not care for any of the new music, popular today. Does music today even have a beat? I don't think so.

Good grief! I had no idea what to post when I sat down here. Now I could just go on and on. Guess I will stop here and get busy. Still no rain yet!

Love,
Henny

  1. I love all your pottery. I'm a big fan of some of the oldies, too. I especially like John Denver, James Taylor, The Beatles.

    1. Thank you! I do love John Denver. I could listen to his songs over and over. It was a sad when he died.

  2. That is quite a record collection! I prefer the older music too. I, like Deb, enjoy John Denver and the Beatles too. I think records sound much better than C.D's.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  3. I have a record collection and add to it when I see a bargain at the car boot sale. I love the process of putting the record on the player rather than just pressing a button I don't know why. Nice to see someone else's collection.

    1. I enjoy playing the records too. I still buy one once in a while at a thrift store.

  4. I love old vinyl! I had the same Crosley player but I sold it in our garage sale. For whatever reason, I decided it was taking up space. Now I wish I had it back. My favorite album is by John Denver followed closely by Carly Simon. I also loves the old 78 LPs. My Mama had quite a few of those when I was growing up. I may just have to replace my record player and rebuild my album collection!

    Grace & Peace

    1. You should get another record player. Looks like a lot of us loved John Denver. :)

  5. I did not know that Poppy was not the girl's dad. That ball of string fascinates me, I know how thin that stuff is. Do you wish you had kept track of the number of strings, I'm guessing you didn't or you would have said. We have a few old records kicking around here. I remember my mum listening to Engelbert Humperdink and some of those other golden oldies, and I always sing along when I hear them now.

    1. I would like to know how many strings make up that ball. I didn't think about counting them. No, Poppy is the girls step-dad. I remember Englebert.

  6. We gave away or sold all of our vinyl. My favorite album was Johnny Rivers! Poppy must be a little younger than you! I am a music snob, I only like the oldies from the 50's and 60's:)

    1. For some reason I can not remember Johnny Rivers. Would you believe that I am eleven years older than Poppy? I love the 50's and 60's music too.

  8. I wish we'd kept some of our record albums, but what with moving and them weighing so much, a stack of them, they're all gone.

    1. These old albums are heavy! And take up a lot of space. I finally lined them on the floor under that bookcase.

  9. We never had big record collections, but we have kept some, and when we redid our sound system we kept our turntable. I play mostly old Christmas records. I have all of my old music on my iPod and listen to it while I am walking. I prefer old music too.

  10. I would like your music. You have very wide selection of music that you like. I take CDs out of the library here.

    1. This wide selection sure catches a lot of dust. It is fun to go through the old albums.

    1. And we really don't have that many animals. Goat feed and chicken feed! Can you imagine if we had a real farm! :) I wouldn't have time to collect all the strings.

  12. It's a good thing Poppy wasn't out in a tree around here today. We had heavy rain, the kind that bounces off the street. And wind. It has calmed down now but I see black clouds in the West. Who knows what will be next. I do like sleeping when it's raining though, so I hope it rains overnight. So cozy.

  13. I sold all my records and went to CD'S when all was a hit now we just download them on the computer and put them on our android/ phones lol . I like all kinds of music , my family are all musically inclined we would get the family together on special occasions and have a big old sing song and a dance or two . I used to be in a band singing when I was younger making money by performing at fairs, functions and at bars . Looks like you have a string theory happening there lol ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !

    1. I have always admired families with musical talent. How neat that you were in a band and can sing! My oldest daughter (50 yrs. old) is taking guitar lessons now and she can sing. It's funny, she and her guitar teacher have become very good friends. He has played with, and still does, several different bands and my daughter has been singing and playing a little with them. You should do a post about your days in the band. That would be so interesting.

  14. I love your record player and I love bluegrass music! We've had hunters in the piney woods across the road this weekend. I hope our little herd of deer is smart and stays out of sight. We have been seeing a beautiful big buck with quite a rack the last couple weeks. He would probably make a nice wall decoration but I hope no one catches him.

  15. Hi Henny Penny, Why don't you use any of your string collection?? We use string for certain things. That is a nice collection of albums. We have an antique record player that sits on display but wish we would have kept a record player. I don't like the music of today either. It seems like the older music was more melodic. Nancy

  16. Happy Monday! You both have a big record collection. Ever since my daughter bought a record player from the thrift store, I keep thinking I could kick myself for not keeping the old one I had when I was a teenager.

I love how you decorated your shelf and that string ball was a great idea... :)

  17. I have the largest, oldest boombox ever to live 24 years while being played almost every day. It's best for playing what my daughters call my ancient CD's of T. Graham Brown, Billy Ray Cyrus, and all the other guys from way back when. thanks for the trip down memory lane.
