Sewing Room/Living Room

What in the world would I do without my tiny little sewing room?   "My space"!  "My place"!

To escape from the camouflage and the wild turkey tails mounted complete with feet and beards.  The deer mounts, deer antler mounts, and the ten pound Bass mounts.  The fox squirrels mounted on logs sitting amongst random antlers on top of the TV cabinet.

Stacked beside the bookcase are ammo boxes and next to the ammo boxes a camouflage container with a padded swivel top that doubles as a seat for the hunter.

Padded, zippered, camouflage gun cases hang from either side of the gun cabinet and antlers on a rope, used for rattling, hang from the corners of the gun cabinet.  A tomahawk with a leather strap hangs from a lower corner of the cabinet.

Hidden behind the fat leather chair stands the mighty crossbow and stuffed behind my Mother's old cedar chest is the crossbow case.

The house smells of freshly dug earth worms, and more often than not there is a camo face mask and bandana soaking in a little soapy water in the bathroom sink.

Friends, this is my living room I am describing here!

Today I am thankful for feminine daughters.  Daughters who tell me to be who I want to be and wear what I think is beautiful...even at my age.  I am thankful for lace and ruffles and kitty cats, for things soft and pink, and things that are lovely.  Can you tell maybe that I have just had a long, delightful, encouraging phone conversation with my Daughter, Lynn, from "A Mother's Journal".   Lynn inspires me!!!

So inspired, I begin digging out pantaloons and pieces that I have made but never had the nerve to wear.  What am I waiting for...to get a few years older?

Henny Penny is off to the sewing room now to look at fabrics and patterns and stuff.

Thank you if you have managed to stay long enough to read this.  :)

Love,
The same old Henny Penny

    1. Thank you! I didn't know I would like pantaloons this much, and I used to sell these things at the farmers market. Thank you for looking at my blog.

  4. Henny, you are absoluting stunning to look at-- I love your hair and you are just naturally beautiful! You look exactly like I thought you would! You would look beautiful running around the place and the woods with your pantlets and hose stuffed in boots and all manner of lace and ribbons! Let Lynn dress you up and you 2 can have a hen party in the sewing room, sewing up all manner of linens and lace. You need you a big fake furry hat, though, to keep your head warm! I am just about to crack up here at work though, talking about the antlers and deer stuff and fox squirrels sitting around. My ex-husband had his sled team dogs taxidermied, so I know what you mean. Love ya! Terry

    1. Terry, thank you so much! It took some nerve to post a picture of my old self! When we have that hen party we want you to come too. You don't mean he actually had a team of sled dogs mounted!!! :) That is so funny! You surely do know what I'm talking about! Love, Henny

    2. Hey Henn! Not the whole sled dog team, but the leaders, about 3. or 4. They made you nervous, though, stumbling over them in the dark. I don't know what he ever did with them! Happy Monday and stay warm - we are only 28 here at noon! Love Terry

  5. Henny Penny you are BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love the pantaloons!! If my mom was alive I would have her to make me a pair!! They would not look as good on me but..... I love your sewing room and this is one skill I really wish my mom would have passed on to me but Cindy got that skill. I would love to have a craft room though. I love you!

    1. Thank you! The whole house looks like a hunting lodge, so I do enjoy the sewing room. I have almost as much fun sorting and folding fabric pieces as I do actually sewing! :)

  7. Every woman should have their OWN room where they can have things just the way they like. Just because you marry someone doesn't mean that suddenly your shared room (read compromise most often) is not what you would really like to have. So nice too to be able to start making something and leave it out until finished so as not to be packing things away and then turning around and pulling them all out again before you can get started.

I love your blog. I'm going back to the beginning and reading it from the start. It sounds like it's written by a real person, not someone implying that their life is just wonderful every single minute and that they never have a boring or worrisome day to get through.

  8. Thank you! I appreciate what you've said about my blog. Most times it embarrasses me to read what I have written. You are so right about women needing their own room. Our house is very small. I didn't enjoy sewing until I turned the smaller bedroom into a sewing room...I figure if company comes they can sleep in a sewing room. At least they will have lots to look at! :) Thanks again!

  12. ha ha please ladies don't fight !
Lynn, I'm sure it was an absolute delight growing up in those surroundings in that home, and I can see you where you get your good taste from ! both yours and Henny's homes are beautiful, and so individual. I love people who have the 'guts' to be different in this world.
I like to think my home is individual too, it's sort of English Victorian - when I get a new/replacement camera I'll post some pics, I'll do a pictorial tour of where I live now.
Henny I'm in love with your pantaloons (in the nicest possible way of course) and I'm unashamedly admitting I'm going to copy your design !
    take care both ........
