Trying to keep calm

Have you ever spent an hour or two writing a post then decide it's just not what you want to say, so you delete the whole thing? I did that very thing yesterday. Got to venting about the neighbor's dogs killing our little white guinea, you know, the one that climbed the ladder every night. Poppy saw the whole thing, but could not get there in time to help. Better stop here, before I get wound up again.

So, Mr. Scarecrow scared away the owls during the night but sadly there was nothing he could do to scare away the dogs.

The teeny tiny garden still had a row of okra trying to grow and a basil plant. Yesterday I finished cleaning up the garden.

Here's the basil. Once it is dried it may not be fit to use but it was fun clipping and tying the little bundles to hang...and it smells so good. Don't know how those oil lamps got moved out of place. Things like that drive me crazy.

That's about it for now. We may have company later on today. My sweet grandson Daniel called and said he wants us to meet his girlfriend. Daniel is the oldest of the grandchildren and very special. Hopefully, I will remember get my camera out. Better get busy and at least wipe the dust off things!

Don't you just hate people who bring home dogs and then don't take care of them. I blame the stupid owners of the dogs that are killing our guineas more than I blame the dogs. I'll hush!

Love,
Henny

  1. Henny, I'm right there with you about the dogs! Dogs should not be let loose especially when there are animals and birds around. I can sure understand why you are so upset. I like the glimpse of the mantle and the basil. I've thought about doing that in my kitchen. I have a wide enough kitchen window sill that might hold two or three little herb planters and then I could hang them to dry them. I hope you have a good day.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about your little guinea, we lost a cat to a neighbor's dog. And like you I blame the neighbors, not the dogs.
Glad you got through the storm ok.

  3. We have a neighbor to the back of us that raises German Shepherds to sell and they don't good take care of them. I think that there are laws about dogs always being on chains and I want to turn them in, but I also want to be a good neighbor. I've been fighting that battle in my mind for months.

  5. Aww Henny, I'm so sad to hear this. People should not let their dogs roam.....period.
Your herbs are looking great, I can only imagine what your living room smells like with the basil smell wafting through the air.....hmm.
Hope you have a wonderful visit with your family, don't worry about the dusting, they won't even see it :)
    Hugs,

  7. So sorry to hear about your little chick. Dogs are not allowed to roam free here in the suburbs, which may be hard on the dogs, but keeps everyone else safe.

  8. Hi Henny: :( That upsets me, too. Dogs should never be allowed to run off their property. It's just the way I see it. They can only do damage and get into trouble without supervision. We never allowed our dog to roam around without us. We were always in eye-sight of him. I would have a word with your neighbour and feel I had every right. I hope your visit with your grandson makes you feel a bit better.

  10. Poor little guinea. I'm surprised that Poppy didn't march right over there and "have a word". I know my nephew warned his neighbours that if they didn't keep their dogs at home he'd shoot them. Drastic maybe but it worked. .

  11. Jenny, I am so sorry about your Guinea. Poor little thing! And poor you. Roaming dogs can be so destructive.
Enjoy your visit with Daniel and his girlfriend.

  12. I do the blog thing all the time. I want to talk about something, but it sounds so much better in my head than on paper, so then I give up and that is sometimes why there is such a big gap between posts. I would be furious about the dogs. The best thing to do would have been to storm over to the neighbours right there and then, dead body in hand if possible. Yep, I'd threaten to shoot them if they harassed my livestock again. That makes me so mad.

  13. Oh very sad about the dogs killing the poor little Guinea.
Yes, that does bother me when people don't control their dogs.

  14. I am so sorry to hear about your guinea...and yes, I don't understand either why people get dogs and then don't take care of them. Such a shame.

I love your scare crow. SO cute!

Hope you have a nice visit with your grandson and his girlfriend.

  16. My heart breaks to hear the news of your guinea. It makes me very angry for folks to let their dogs roam.
I do hope your grandson and his girl will be able to visit and I'd love if you share photos. Sending a hug. xo

  18. I am so sorry to hear about your guinea. It seems very irresponsible to me when people don't keep tabs on their dogs. We live in a neighborhood where dogs are supposed to be on leashes or behind fences. Most people seem to abide by the rules.
Your basil harvest is wonderful. I dried some last year and it worked out well. I must get out there tomorrow and deal with mine. I think I'll do some pesto and dry the rest. Glad you reminded me of this task.
I think it is so sweet that your grandson wants you to meet his special girl.

  19. You feel very helpless when animals are allowed to run at large. YES, IT'S OWNERS!

  20. Dog owners should be with their dogs, they should never be allowed to roam free. Just my opinion. Hope the dog stays away :(

  21. Sorry to hear about your guinea. North Carolina has leash laws, but obviously in the boonies, people don't always care. If you had photos, you might be able to sue, but that wouldn't really help.
Would something like this help? http://www.niteguard.com/
    God bless you all.

  22. I am so sorry that your guinea was killed by someone else's dogs. I do with people kept up with their dogs better. Have a great visit with your grandson!

  23. Him so sorry about the Guinea being killed by a dog. Terrible that people don't take responsibility for their animals. Nothing so bad as killer dogs but our neighbor's behind us have three yapping dogs that drive us and our dogs NUTS. I, too, definitely blame the owners.

  24. I am so sad to hear about your sweet little guinea. Poor thing! Yes, I hate that people have dogs and don't keep them properly! Two years ago, we had a neighbor's three dogs kill one of my granddaughters little goats. Thankfully, my Mister got home before they could jump the fence and run off. He killed the main dog and I probably scared the life out of the other two. The two that made it out have never been back in our yard. Those poor dogs are pretty much left on their on and run wild. Makes me so mad!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam
