Mama and Roses

My Mother's Day post...a little early

Not much to post about these days. Well, the roses are blooming, that's something, and Sunday is Mother's Day, that's big.

Have I ever mentioned that my Mother's name was Jewel?  Yes, and she truly was a jewel.
Mama loved roses. Once upon a time, back in the early 1990's, before mama gave up her little home and moved in with my sister...

we went shopping for rose bushes, mama and me. My plan was to dig up a bed in her back yard and make her a rose garden. A beautiful rose garden. Well, all I accomplished that day was to make more work for mama in the coming days.

My digging, chopping, and planting would have made a good teaching video on "How not to build a rose garden".  Anyhow, that was long ago and my intentions were good...that poorly built rose garden has long since been bulldozed over.

Oh Willie, the pink roses, pink wheelbarrow, and little Weetie in that first picture reminded me of you. Hope you like it.

This is a skimpy little rose but hangs heavy with blooms.

I do believe pink roses are my favorite. Mama loved yellow roses.  Wonder why I've never bought a yellow rose? That will be my next purchase!

maybe these knock-out roses are country roses, you know kinda like The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse. :)

move the camera a little to the left...
and there's a country cat drinking water.

and this poor struggling white rose surrounded by weeds has a few pretty blooms. The little yellow flowers are called Golden Star and grow wild here.

Mama was always saying the funniest things...

When we first bought this piece of property, we would come out on weekends and work; clearing trees and honeysuckle vines, etc. One Sunday we were coming out to burn a pile of brush, which bothered mama. She said to me...

"Melba, I'd be ashamed to go out there and burn brush on Sunday. You know that's how the man got put in the moon; burning brush on Sunday".

Happy Mother's Day!

Henny

A little visit

My goodness, I had forgotten just how miserable a cold can make you feel. It's awful! It has turned into a constant croupy, aggravating, driving me crazy cough, and has definitely affected my brain...why, I worked on a post for this blog off and on all day yesterday and never did come up with anything worth reading...not that I ever do!

We are still into rainy days, but the weatherman says if we can tolerate the rain through Sunday...well, we are in for a pleasant surprise come Monday; sunshine, low 70's, low humidity...very pleasant.

Scruffy duck left her nest in the old doghouse and went back to the safety of the pond. Things around the chicken pen are settled and quiet again. Hopefully, no more snakes stop by any time soon! Oh, someone asked what kind of snakes these are. They are actually chicken snakes. Black chicken snakes. We always called them black snakes. They actually do good for farmers by eating rats but they also eat birds, baby bunnies...anything they can swallow!! darn it!!

So, for now, the cutest little couple on the teeny tiny farm just happens to be Fiona and Bun Bun. I have been sharing the big patch of red clover in the teeny tiny garden with them...

Some days Bun Bun and Fiona are together in the pen, but most days the little fence is between them. Fiona is a climber and has actually climbed on top of Bun Bun's cage and knocked the roof off. No sign of baby bunnies yet!

Oops! someone forgot and left the pink wheelbarrow parked in front of a rose bush!

Yeah right! Somebody likes to brag about having a pink wheelbarrow. Seriously, I finally broke down and got the wheelbarrow dirty by using it. It's just been so darn clean and pink I couldn't bear to dirty it up.

Okay, a very boring post going on here. It's the cold, I'm telling you. Bet you wonder about that precious little Rosie goat...well, I've simply got to get out there and take pictures of her. She is still adorable! It has been so wet and messy here. There will be a little Rosie post soon.

and...the long legged tower! I'm still fixing and adding to...dragging stuff from the woods and every corner of the yard...check back for another update, if you please. Thank you!

Love,
Henny

Checking in...again

Dear friends,

Surely, you are as tired of hearing about my ailments as I am of dealing with them and talking about them. I will tell you though, that the Orthopedic doctor suspects a herniated disc. Monday, I am scheduled for an MRI, and you know what? I am scared to death of getting the MRI...and then that injection. Scared to death!!

Bet you didn't know that hay tastes better eaten from a pink wheelbarrow? Poppy had just put a new bale of hay in the hay rack and we were taking the old hay to the chicken house but Rosie had to have one more bite. Asa says she is not sure about this pink wheelbarrow.

Painful as it is, I am still limping outside after Poppy leaves for work, to feed Rosie, open the chicken house door, and let Eli in the goat lot.  I did carry the camera this morning...to have something for my blog... but seems every picture turned out fuzzy,

even this cherry tree, which surprised me by blooming this spring. This is one of the fruit trees that the roots had grown through the pot and into the ground up at the teeny tiny garden. I had no idea it would survive after chopping the root loose then digging a hole, and setting it out near the ditch in the back yard.

Hope things around here will soon be back to normal. Shelby is probably hoping the same thing as Monday will be the fourth week in a row that she has spent an entire day carting me around.

Thank you for lending an ear and for not deleting  just yet. :)

Love,
Henny
