Answering a couple of questions :)

I have a new follower! I know, I can't believe it either! :) Thank you, Mari.

Deb, at Just Cats, asked how Bickett got his name...

That's right, Bickett,  Deb was asking about you.

It was on a Sunday morning in October of 2005. I slowed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Bickett Blvd. and a main highway in town and saw a tiny black and white kitten in the middle of the road.

I stopped the car and jumped out, waving my arms to stop a van that was headed our way. I picked up this poor little dirty kitten and holding him close to my heart, got back in car and drove away.

These are not good baby pictures of Bickett, and the dirty tee shirt is on my grandson who had been fishing. But, you can see Bickett's little nose and eyes were dirty. The vet said right off that he had ringworm. This kitten needed me.

I shed some tears over this kitten. You see, Poppy did not want a cat! We had dog, lots of dogs, but no cats. It just happened that Mama was spending a few days with us, and she said to Poppy, why don't you tell her she can keep that kitten. I don't know why, but he said okay. Poppy always loved my mother anyway.

And here's Bickett today, eleven years old and practically running things around here. I love this cat!  So, Bickett got his name from the boulevard where I found him. Thank you Deb for asking.

Mildred, at Mildred's Blog asked if I would use my pretty new teacup for drinking tea, or cider, or hot chocolate...well, you know what? I would really love to be a hot tea drinker. I try so hard to love it. It just seems so ladylike to have tea in a pretty teacup in the afternoon and you ladies who do drink that hot tea, well, it looks absolutely delicious.

I've always wanted to have a tea party or go to a tea party, but gosh, I wouldn't know how to act.

Growing up, the only kind of tea we had was a pitcher of sweet tea. We did drink coffee. Even as a little girl, mama would fix me coffee, with a little coffee in the cup and lots of cream and sugar.

So, I do drink the occasional cup of hot tea. I like mine with honey. :)  Thanks for asking Mildred.

Better get away from this computer and get all the animals situated for the night.

Love,
Henny

  1. Hi Henny: Aw, now I LOVE that Bickett. What a sweet story with what I truly love; a happy ending. Ringworm is no easy fight and I think without you that wee little waif would have surely perished.Thank God you spotted him. The retired-guy had never lived with a cat then he met me. Boy, was he in for it. WHAM! We had six cats for years and he learned to love them all. ;-)Give Bickett a hug for me. What a lucky cat. And as far as tea-drinking goes, you have to be less serious about it and just...down the hatch. It's deeelicious any way you like it. And you should not be surprised to have a new follower. Your blog is wonderful, down to earth and fun. I think in no time you'll have hundreds. :)

    1. Thank you Deb. I will give Bickett that hug. It was a struggle treating that ringworm, and Bickett had health problems for a while. He has finally outgrown those problems. Wait til I tell Poppy that you had six cats! :)

  2. what a wonderful story about naming Bickett. Loved hearing it. Poor little kitty. Now I'm wondering how you ended up with the other cat? Always something, right? As for tea, if you prefer coffee just have it in a teacup. It will taste better, I promise.

    1. Thank you. We have three cats now and the other two we rescued too. Poppy found Dumperoo at the dumpster...imagine that. Then Smokey was thrown out by someone when he was just a kitten and he followed the guineas home one day after being in the woods alone and hungry.

  3. There's nothing like a good cup of strong tea. No sugar, No milk . Just tea. Now i do drink coffee most of the day but tea for dinner.

    1. I've never tried just tea. My complaint about hot tea has always been that it is not strong enough.

  5. What a sweet post! I love Bickett's story and he sure is one lucky kitty that you found him.
Your mother gave you coffee with lots of cream and sugar. Mine gave me tea with lots of milk and sugar. It was the only way she could get any milk into me.
Now I have a crazy question. I'm not even sure I ever actually became a 'follower'. I love your blog and all so I'm going right to your side bar and click the follow button. I don't even know how to put one on my own blog.

    1. Isn't that funny. Guess it's just what we grew up with. I did not know that you were not a follower. Never even checked, and I thought for sure I was following your blog, but if you don't have a follow button, there was no way. I follow you anyway. I love your blog. Thank you for making 90 followers for me!! :)

    1. Hey Linda! I had a time getting Bickett well. The Vet had to special order some ringworm medication and we went through two prescriptions. I did get a ringworm on my arm from Bickett. He was an unhealthy cat for several years. He is sure a big healthy boy now.

  9. Such a heartwarming story about Bickett. We have 5 cats with similar stories, the oldest is 13 and I love them all!
Thank you for sharing with me about your tea cup. Truth be told, I much prefer coffee over hot tea. Maybe because growing up we practically had sweet, iced tea in our baby bottles! lol lol I love seeing your pretty dishes. My weakness (and my late mom's) was dishes. Wishing you many blessings today. xoxo

    1. Thank you Mildred. How sweet that you have 5 cats. I'll have to tell Poppy. There is always somebody dumping kittens or even grown cats out on our dirt road. Wish I could take in all the unwanted cats and dogs.

  13. I love the story about Bickett's naming. He sure looks like a sweet, but bedraggled, little bundle there in the first picture. How fortunate for both of you that you came along just when you did. That must make you Bickett's own personal angel.

Not only that it started Poppy on the road to being a real cat person. It's hard once you have one not to want more. They have such diverse personalities it's an interesting process and it makes for a different experience each time.

    1. Thank you Vic. You right about the cats. I think Poppy enjoys them more that he wants to admit. Every time he sits down Dumperoo is in his lap.

  14. Bickett is a very blessed cat, to have been found by you.
It's funny because I feel the same way about tea. I like a cup in the evenings during the cold months, but rarely think to make one and having a tea party has always sounded quite lovely. The more I live in jeans and tee shirts, the less I feel lady-like enough for sipping tea in a pretty cup. How would you know who among your friends to invite to a tea party? Would they be delighted to come, or would they laugh at the whole idea?

    1. Thank you Connie. It's the cold evenings that I might drink a cup of hot tea too. Sometimes I laugh at myself with my ragged jeans and shirt and all dirty from mowing. I look like the farthest thing from a lady at a tea party. I doubt there is a neighbor out here that would come to a tea party...well maybe one. :)

  16. What a sweet story about Bickett! He certainly was blessed when he came home with you. I like coffee first thing in the morning but later it's tea, either hot or cold. I think tea parties are lovely. I've been to a couple tea houses and it is so much fun. Everything is so pretty. I think your tea cups are so pretty. Have a great day.

    1. Thank you Melanie. There is a tea house in Wake Forest that I would like to go in. Both my daughters would enjoy that too, so maybe one day I can see what it's like.

  17. I love the How Bickett Got His Name story! Such a happy ending. And what a pretty little teacup with the birds on it, no matter what you drink out of it. I love both coffee and tea but I drink more cups of tea in a day than coffee.

  19. What a great way for Bickett to get his name! I sometimes drink hot water...that would work in your tea cup:)

  20. What a touching story. Love how you named the kitten. I have to have my cup of coffee in the morning. Your teacups are charming. I would if you shared this special post on Sunday at our Link party, Dishing it & Digging It. it's a nice way to make new friends and share your story.

  21. I almost adopted a kitten I rescued. It ran into a store I worked at and nobody tried to help it except me. I have a dog that would have most likely been "rough" to the cat by nature so I decided to give it up before I got attached.
