I just might get this, and one more post done before Christmas! I'll tell you what! I've had "The Night Before Christmas" going through my head since the day after Thanksgiving!
Like outside trying to rake up a few leaves and going over and over in my head, "as dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, when they meet with an obstacle mount to the sky",
and, seeing the moon early mornings while out with Ellie lately, "the moon on the breast of the new fallen snow, gave a lustre of midday to objects below". One of my favorite poems for sure!
Moving on to more important things :) My scissors...
and this isn't all of them! There are scissors in the greenhouse and in the shop, in the kitchen, and laundry room, in my car, and a teeny tiny pair in my pocketbook! These 5 are in my sewing room. Opening the new pack of 2 yesterday (the smaller ones on the far end), made me think of my aunt Berlie...
That's her, 3rd from the left in the back row. My dear Aunt Berlie! I loved spending nights with her. She lived alone in a big old house that had an attic. I loved cutting out of an old catalog...we would go up in the attic and find an old Sears Roebuck catalog, bring it back down to the sitting room, where the heater was toasty warm, and Aunt Berlie would start looking through drawers for a pair of scissors. "I know there's a little old pair of scissors here somewhere", she would say.
Anyhow, Shelby and I, well now it's Shelby, Karen, and I were vendors at the Christmas Bazaar last month. Karen makes the most beautiful doll clothes...
Karen was bound and determined to have 50 outfits made before doing craft events. Her set-up was so pretty! Her husband Norm built the clothes rack...
and you know Shelby with all her baked goods and jams and jellies..
Customers always flock around her table. And a little glimpse of my stuff, such as it is, as mama would say...
So, a craft event really gets me going! I've been sewing just about every day since...making a few new things too!
Not much going on outside these days except trying to rake up acres of giant oak leaves! It's raining and cold today, still in the 30s as I write this. My little greenhouse, full of plants I hope to keep alive through the winter...
Need to end this but I did promise Smokey to show you this picture. You see, I forgot it last time and he especially wanted Precious to see it. You know Precious has her own blog. :)
Thank you, Dear friends. I appreciate you all so much. I always mean to reply to each of your comments. Where do the days go! Oh, my new Santa poster arrived this week and is hanging on the front porch. Anxious to get out all the Christmas decorations. :)
Love, Henny

Merry Christmas Henny! So glad to see you and yes Precious loves seeing Smokey being so helpful. What a great craft show for all to attend. I am jealous of all that I see for sale. The doll dresses take me back in time. Mother always made one of my dolls something to wear to match the outfit made for me for Christmas. You never forget those things. Hope you and your family have plenty of time together for the holidays. And send Poppy up here to get the deer out of our yard!
ReplyDeleteSmokey is a beautiful cat!
ReplyDeleteLove your set up at the show - hope you did well! Lot's of good stuff at your booth.
I need some new scissors, mine are getting dull.
Three beautiful booths! What workmanship! Not a lazy bone in all of you! andrea
ReplyDeleteOh thank you for reminding me of that childhood poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas". Even as an adult I still love to read it. Winter came early here and sad to say we still have some leftover leaves that need raked. Oh well there is always spring. Have a lovely weekend. Ah Smokey looks just like my own Smokey (God bless him-he is in heaven...waiting for me)! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThat would be a wonderful craft show to attend. Everything looks beautiful. We have lots of snow here and more predicted for tomorrow and that's plenty for me for the rest of the winter.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Funny, but parts of "The Night Before Christmas" were stuck in my head yesterday and into this morning too! Different verses though.
ReplyDeleteYour bazaar stalls look great!
How pretty all the things look that you and Shelby and Karen have made.🎄 You are so talented!! No viewing of the moon here this month. Rain and more rain is what we are getting.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great craft show. I haven't been to one in a long time.
ReplyDeleteSmokey is so pretty.
Danny Elfman rocks and I listen to that sound track year-round! In fact, today at Five Below, I finally found The Pumpkin King mini that I've been on the hunt for, for MONTHS. We have a rule though, anything bought in November goes under the tree. So I can't shoot him until then. That's okay!
ReplyDeleteYour aunt sounds like a hoot! Those Sears books. So thick. I recall Cheryl Teigs (not sure if that's spelled right).
Jams and jellies are fun. Looks like a good day and great on the sewing. I have one blanket that I want to get made soon. And today, I didn't let myself go into the local sew shoppe because I was like no, sew what I have. It was a tough though. They're local and always get really fun prints.
Happy Christmas! Cheers, Ivy.
Oh, Melba, I would die for a craft fair like the ones you go to! I always think you and Shelby have the most awesome things and now Karen, with her beautiful doll dresses! Yes, indeed, I wish I was closer so I could attend those events! I'd be y'alls best customer!
ReplyDeleteThanks, so much, for stopping by my blog!
Grace & Peace,
Pam
Merry almost Christmas Melba! That Christmas Bazaar last month sounded really fun. I would love to have been there looking at all the great things. How did you do? Hope you sold some things. That's such a nice old picture you started out with here, love those old memories and cutting things out of the Sears Catalog. Your greenhouse plants look great, hope they do well over winter. I guess you don't get as cold as we do. We were below zero last night. Wishing you and your hubby wonderful, peaceful holidays. See you back here whenever you come back this way. God bless you. Love you! diane in northern wis
ReplyDeleteThat is funny about your aunt Berlie. My mom could never find the scissors either. I have a lot and it seems I never have enough. We never have a Christmas Market here, so I loved looking through yours!!
ReplyDeletePhew! Made it! HeHe! Bless! :).
ReplyDeleteThere's one thing l love, and that's Sepia photos,
l have quite a few in the shoe box at the bottom
of the stairs...Parents, Gran Parents, even Great
Gran Parents....
On a Sunday afternoon, during the football, l may
make a nice strong Moka coffee, couple of Bourbon
biscuits, and sit there with the box on my lap, enjoying
them....Sepia photos have so much more character,
and depth than even colour photos...! I love them...! :).
And...our Corn Exchange has reopened here in the town,
it's been closed for a refit for two years, so, Thursdays is
stall holders market inside, all hand made and crafty things
to enjoy and buy...it's great fun to, everyone knows everyone,
if you don't have any friends when you walk in, you certainly
will, when you walk out...! HeHe! :O).
Well...best get on...nearly lunch time...and nearly Christmas....
One day at a time..."Onwards and Upwards".....! :O).

I'm truly impressed by your creativity and that of your friends who had booths at the craft fair, Henny Penny. Beautiful items! And I can relate to the scissors as we have pairs all over the house, always there when needed. Smokey is a handsome cat, indeed. Have a wonderful Advent!
ReplyDeleteScissors seem to have a way of coming up missing around here. Of course, I have to hide my sewing scissors. Our son gave us a large pair of scissors from Harbor Fright for Christmas last year. :~) I love those scissors. Another great post, Henny!
ReplyDeleteYou have a lot of scissors! Come to think of it so do I! Three in my sewing room plus a thread snipper, two in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. They each serve their own purpose! Love all the craft show stuff!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie Smokey is. Have a beautiful day.

There are so many creative and talented people in this world..I am not one of them. I can only imagine how fun it is to go to one of these shows. Hope you did well ...your items are so nice and I know they are well made. I have a stack of scissors, but I don't know why.. LOL
ReplyDeleteThe craft fair looks so fun, I would love to walk around and look at all the homemade treasures.
ReplyDeleteIt is such fun to have a greenhouse. :-)
Let me know if you decorate the greenhouse for Christmas.
