A bit about the kitty cats

Hey friends,

Well, I'm still wanting to do better at posting, visiting you, and replying to your comments...I have good intentions. :)  Poppy tells me I have too many things going on at once.  Oh, the other day he said to me, "that's why you never get anything done"!  "NEVER GET ANYTHING DONE!", I asked!

Anyhow, Poppy brought me these lilies when he came home from turkey hunting a day or so ago...

Turkey lilies, he calls them.  Googled them and these are wild Easter lilies. Now I'm wondering if the wild Easter lilies we used to pick at Aunt Berlies were white instead of blue or purple like pictured in my mind. That was a long long time ago.

Poppy says there is a field of these lilies where he hunts. I added a sprig or two of Rosemary, apple mint, and liriope to the vase.

Oh, before I forget! Poppy killed a big tom turkey! First one in two years. He was tickled to death. Me, not so much. :)

Kitty cats, kitty cats, kitty cats! Had a request for more about the cats (think that was you, Willie. Thank you). :)

Smokey and Dumperoo stay up and off the floor as much as possible these days; you know, with a big overgrown puppy in the house.

some days Smokey says he has had enough!

and Dumper finds a little peace and quiet on the back porch behind the plastic tablecloth. Pardon the mess, I'm painting an old rocking chair.

Actually, our little Ellie girl has been sweet to both kitties. She just wants to play and doesn't realize how big and clumsy she is.

It is a nice break for me and the cats when Ellie and Eli take a nap. That's when I vacuum the floors or slip up to the garden...

Not much to see here but I've got a start; six cauliflower plants, three pepper plants, one row of green beans, half row of kale, half row of potatoes, four tomato plants, oh and Arkansas little leaf cucumber in the half barrel.

Like I said, not much. After all, it is the teeny tiny garden. Don't know why it is so hard to find plants this year. I've always bought vegetable plants in the little six pack but not this year. Can't find any.

How dumb of me not to start seeds early in the greenhouse. Two pepper plants at Tractor Supply cost me over eight dollars! Poppy says we would be better off buying the peppers at the grocery store. But that's no fun!

Here's a little something I put together this week...

These two plum trees have been slow growing...the larger one bloomed for the first time this spring. Anyhow, the rich soil, top soil, kept washing down the hill so I buried these edging bricks along the edge and filled in around the little trees with compost and mulch. The Guineas came right behind me and wallowed holes in all my hard work. That's why there are now three flowers pots in the bed. :)

and up at the garden...

the four Dutch Iris I dug from amongst the weeds are beginning to bloom. Aren't they beautiful.

One more picture and I will end this boring post..

Don't know who was more tired, Ellie or me...

Eli, in the background curled up in his chair looks pretty tired too.

Thank you friends. Hope to be back here soon.

Love,
Henny

  3. Love the post, Henny. Glad Poppy got a turkey. Not sure what I'd do with it myself. Good cooking?
And of course I was able to pick out Dumperoo's eyes glowing thru the plastic. You'll have to show us
the finished rocker some day. Love seeing flowers and plants any time at any stage.
Hope you and Ellie got a rest. Lynn and Precious

  6. It was such a sweet visit today. Enjoyed your lovely bouquet of lilies...wild ones are especially a treat. Do you have a greenhouse nearby that raises plants and sells them by the flat? We have several in our area so don't have to buy just one or two plants but get them in 6 packs. Wow green beans already. You are further south than we are so will be waiting until the end of the month before I put them in the ground. Your fur babies are wonderful. Enjoy them all my friend. Have a lovely weekend. Hugs!

  7. Such pretty lilies and to find them wild is amazing.
I think it is better to have lots of things to be interested in to do than to be bored! :)

  8. Oooh - those lilies are really pretty. They look like wild tiger lilies. I've never seen them before. It was nice of Poppy to bring some home to you.
The kitties and the dogs are all cute!

  9. I so enjoy seeing your place. Reminds me of when I would visit my grandmother in the Country. all kinds of flowers and plants, dogs, cats and a huge array of pure sweet living...

  10. Hello Melba, It was so fun to open up the computer and find that you had posted. Of course I think all of your sweet kitties and puppies are wonderful. That speckled little puppy belly on Ellie just begs to be rubbed. I love puppy tummies! :-)
What wonderful things are growing in your garden. I would like to plant a small garden but I'm not sure where I would do it. The yard has been landscaped before we moved in and I don't want to mess things up. Maybe next to the house I could put a few things in. I picked up a few flowers this week and couldn't believe how expensive they were compared to previous years. Even marigolds! I think next year I'll try planting them myself from seeds like I used to.
Take care and give all of your furries loves from me. I'm sure missing my Chloe girl.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  11. Your post is anything but boring! I am fascinated by those wild lilies. What a sight! I have to research Turkey Lilies now!

  12. What a good idea you had burying those tiles to keep the soil from escaping. Too bad the Guineas had to go and mess it up but actually the flowerpots look good there. I bought 3 hot pepper plants for middle son. I was lucky to get them for $2 each.
Will you be eating that turkey? Or is it just the fun of hunting it? I can't imagine wild turkey would be very tasty. Especially if you got an old Tom.

  13. Oh henny your posts are great! I always look forward to them. What an awesome garden patch you've got planted. Can't wait to see the new growth springing up! Love seeing your kitties....yes I bet they are a bit perturbed by the new bouncy pup running around. A big Tom Turkey for Poppy huh? Glad he was happy. Now what do you do with it? Oh those lilies look so beautiful on your table. Do they smell good too? Take good care Henny....you DO get alot accomplished!

  14. Cats..Cats..And more cats...HeHe! Can't get
enough of them..Bless! Thankyou Henny! :).

Well..l've heard of various ways of killing
    a bird...but..to tickle one to death, l don't
think so..where does Poppy tickle it..under
the wing, behind the neck..HeHe! Please tell..!

I bet it's a really fun time there at home,
when all the wildlife are up and running, though
l think you should train Elli to keep her legs
together, when having her photo taken...! Bless! :O).

So, l'm just off into town, market day to~day, bit
of sunshine to~day, though we've had rain, wind, gales,
though down south here it's not been to bad..!

  15. Hi Henny- You've been very busy there with the vegetable patch and all- should be a great summer there with all the produce coming on. Like the photos of Smokey- he's a very nice cat indeed. It has been raining here- this is our third day so far and it has been cold. Stay well there in Northern Carolina. Best Wishes. KEV.

  16. Your lillies are beautiful Henny Penny ... as are your cats. Yes it probably was Willie asking for more cat photos as he is such a kind & caring Cat Lover. Everything looks beautiful in your world Henny. xx

  17. It all looks so pretty at your place, Henny. The purple iris is so beautiful. And you know how I love to see the cats. I wondered how they might get along with little Ellie. (not so little to them) Your lilies are gorgeous but they are very poisonous if eaten by the cats. Just thought I should pass that on to you. Hugs to everyone xo

  18. Wow, they were some expensive plants. My husband says the same thing about buying from local grocer and being cheaper. It is fun to grow them ourselves. I started tomatoes, peppers and flowers on the porch and then put them in the small zipper green house. I wish my yard had a lot of sun. I still am looking at green houses and trying to figure out where to place one. So much work to be done here. I like how you potted up some plants as I am doing the same to protect from moles and voles. Love reading your post today. betsy

  19. Always enjoy my visits here. I half agree about buying peppers is cheaper than buying plants. But sure not as convenient. But it is worth more than gold to be able to go outside and pick a homegrown tomato.

  20. What beautiful lilies :)
I always used to cry when hubby gave me flowers, especially when he had picked something himself. Happy memories :) xx

  21. I love the turkey lilies. And when Poppy picks them himself, it makes it more special.
We are having a plant shortage around here too. I need 4 more blackberry for my blackberry patch, but they are all sold out!!

  22. Those Dutch Iris are so lovely and delicate looking. Do they grow into a clump like Siberian Iris or more like just a single stalk as bearded iris do?

My bearded iris are beginning to bloom and even some of the Siberian iris which seems sort of early for them. I had thought that with the two varieties I would get a longer show of blooms but maybe not.

I love the picture of Smokey asleep on the bed. That bed is a really nice one, are they called pencil post beds? Are the posts tall on the other end of the bed as well or just at the head of the bed? I like the simplicity of it and the picture above it is just perfect.

  25. How nice to be remembered with a gift of turkey lilies! They really are lovely. I love your Dutch irises! It’s good that your furry family members are making adjustments and getting along well together. However, we all need our privacy once in awhile.

  26. Spring is the busiest time of year, I think. So much to get done in so short a time. The lilies are just gorgeous and you arranged them so beautifully. Thanks for the cat photos. They are very sweet cats to work around those big puppies of yours! Can you imagine what their mouths look like to a cat when they yawn?!! (Don’t know what made me think of that!)

  27. We are not big fans of Tractor Supply. The company is infuriating to deal with. Some stores in the area will carry an item we want, but it won't be available in the store in our town and they won't ship it either. We have had a cold snap but the peppers ($3.49 at MFA feed store) seem to be doing okay.

  29. Before I forget,, Greetings to Smokey, Dumperoo, Eli and Ellie... wait,, did I fur-get anyone? lol!

I am so happy that our weather is finally turning nice and I can putter in my garden...
I don't know if you have quails out there,, but the little stinkers keep digging (taking dirt baths) in my newly planted wild flower garden... would you like some FREE Quail? heehee...

Your skills for setting flowers in a vase is lovely.. I somehow do not have that talent.. I just plop them in a jar and call it good... lolol!

Have a lovely Sunday morning, stay safe and stay healthy.
