Been a while since I've posted pictures of big sweet Eli...
Sometimes we wonder what life was like before Eli arrived. He certainly fills up every inch of space in our teeny tiny house, and in our hearts too, but not to worry...
so does little Weetie. Weetie just doesn't take up as much space...
Anyhow, it is so blame hot these days, I try to get things done in the teeny tiny garden as early as possible...
This is such a meager amount of produce, but I thought it looked kinda pretty in the basket.
Actually, all of sudden the kitchen counter is covered in tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash,
and the bean vines are hanging full of yard long beans. I'll be the first to admit, "cooking is not my cup of tea" but...
I've been cutting these long green beans into short pieces and stir frying them in olive oil, red pepper flakes,
garlic, and a little onion, and it makes a really good dish!
Funny how it seems to take that first tomato forever to ripen on the vine, then all of a sudden you're bringing in more than you can use.
and look, the zinnias have started blooming...
Zinnias and Sunflowers! Don't you just love them? They add so much to a teeny tiny garden.
I ran out to get a picture of Poppy before he pulled out of the driveway, carrying our old microwave oven to it's final resting place...
We brought this microwave oven with us when we moved into the cabin in 1989. It's been a good one.
Well, I will end this with a wabbit or two...
"Chief, Son of Bun" enjoying an afternoon treat, and "Pinky Lee", next door, too. The two white rescue rabbits seem very happy, and are both getting fat.
We had to squeeze two more condos into the 10' x 10' rabbit lot, but that's okay. We have happy rabbits. :)
Oh, and a special note to Crystal.
I was looking at my "comments awaiting moderation" and there was a very nice comment from Crystal, dated June 15th that was never published. Crystal found my blog two years ago from Granny Marigold's blog, and that was her first comment to me. Please forgive me Crystal. Hope you will visit my blog again. Thank you very much for the information on harvesting and using horseradish. I don't understand why some comments are't published??
Love,
Henny

Henny
Love these pictures! The zinnias and sunflowers are SPECTACULAR!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sandi.
DeleteOh Henny, Eli is just the cutest and most fluffy dog ever and I know his personality matches his appearance! And no, we can not forget Weetie and your cats and other animals too! I just love your little family. Those green beans sure do look good. I have fixed carrots with onion like that but not green beans. I'll have to give it a try if I can find some good fresh ones.
ReplyDeleteWas your old microwave a GE brand? We have one similar to that one that we've used for twenty years now. You're lucky these days to find anything that lasts more than a year. It just frustrates the heck out of me how things are made now. They don't want them to last because they want you to buy more! We have a toaster that I got back in 1970 and that thing is still working!
It's so good to see "Chief, Son of Bun". He has grown and looks just as handsome, healthy and happy as ever! I know all of your bunnies sure love you because you love them and take such good care of them.
You and Poppy take care!xxx
Hey Bonnie. Yes it was a GE, and a good one. I picked up a new one at Walmart last week, 59.00. Wonder how long it will last. Oh, I think of you every time I see Chief. :) You picked a good name.
DeleteOh my goodness Eli is a big boy! The flowers look beautiful and the rabbits happy and healthy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette.
DeleteGirl, You better believe that's been a good microwave. I just lost my washer of over 25 years...I cried. Got a new I just hate. I wish I had that old one rewired. LOL. Wow what a dog. He is huge. The rabbit looks as if it put some make up on for it's picture. Loved seeing what you were cooking and all the veggies and flowers. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteHey Susie. I'm going to miss that microwave. We bought a new washer about five yearss ago and I hate it. We've got a new Kenmore washer being delivered this Friday. Hope I like it better. The new stuff is just not built good.
DeleteI'm still in that long wait for our first ripe tomato! I've never grow the yard long beans; your stir fry makes me want to try them! Eli is so pretty, and so are your zinnias!
ReplyDeleteThank you Leigh. It's a shame the tomatoes all come in about the same time. Wish we could keep them coming until winter. I like beans cooked the old fashioned way with a little fatback grease and cooked until tender, but these yard long beans are delicious stir fried.
DeleteYour Zinnias are amazing!! I've never tasted crookneck squash ( I think that's the kind in your bowl). Maybe I'll try one when they become available in the market.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll like your new washer better than the last one. After a year or so I still am not very happy with my washer. It takes all day to do my laundry, that's how long each load takes. But at least this washer has an agitator, something the last one didn;t have.
Have a good week.
Your teeny tiny garden is doing well (and I love the zinnias). I always feel there is nothing quite as satisfying as eating food you have grown yourself :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post. I love the beans. I miss the beans I used to grow and then blanch and freeze. One year we had 125 quart size bagfuls of green beans from one little 3 foot square space. They never did that well again and I miss them. Thanks for all of the furry friends photos too. I would definitely love to give Eli a big hug and cuddle Weetie in my lap for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Blessings,
Betsy
HeHe! Made me chuckle...

Hi Eli :-D
ReplyDeleteMost of my friends' comments come to my email, but there are just a few that don't for some reason. So frustrating! Have you tried clicking on the photo, and then just pushing your "delete" button on your computer? Might work.
ReplyDeleteThose long beans, I grew them one year too. So interesting! We ditched our microwave too, and I like the extra space.. Gave it to our college daughter, and I think it's still sitting in the trunk of her car!
I've gotta try those long beans. Your garden is beautiful! So is that lovely large dog, and the little guy! We got rid of our microwave some years ago-I've never missed it and wouldn't take another one even if someone gave it to me.
ReplyDeleteWell, Eli sure has a fur coat for the hot summer, doesn't he? The heat and time has made your garden just shoot right
ReplyDeletealong. Wonderful looking veggies and the cooked beans almost gave off a pleasant odor over the internet! Love
the rabbit, and nice to hear the "rescues" are living well. Have a good week.
Hi Henny :)) Your flowers are gorgeous! I'm not a green bean lover, but your dish is tantalizing! :) Eli is SO BIG...and so adorable. How on earth do you keep him so white??? :) I've stopped asking questions about why Blogger does this and why Blogger does that...I stopped getting notifications of when people comment so I have to go and look every once in a while. Also, some people who've been commenting for years go into the Spam folder, no idea why!
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy seeing pictures of Eli - what a great dog!!
ReplyDeleteLove green beans!! They sure are some long ones. Like them raw but cooked up they look delicious!!
Living up here it stays pretty cool and most days we have a nice cool breeze. Perfect summer weather for us. :)
Hi Henny,
ReplyDeleteEli is so white. Do you bath him regularly and do you use a special soap?
I love seeing all your produce. :-) And flowers.
Carla
I like that photo of Eli and Poppy - he is so big!
ReplyDeleteYour produce looks good and I need to try beans that way. Looks so good!
Gosh Eli is so beautiful Henny Penny!!! Just gorgeous. I rather think your zinnias are gorgeous too! such wonderful colours. Thanks for a lovely visit to your blog today. xx
ReplyDeleteI love your posts!!! I am going to have to look for some seed of the yard long beans...just to see them grow in real life! Eli is such a sweet looking dog. I just love him.
ReplyDeleteWow! your zinnias are gorgeous. You sound like you have the same hot weather as us. Today was the first cooler day in weeks. And those beans look delicious. That's how I like them, too or steamed with a bit of butter and lots of pepper.
ReplyDeleteI just picked my first handful of tomatoes this afternoon. Will pop them in a stir-fry tonight.
Every time I see a bunny I think of you, Henny. :-) sending a hug, Deb
Oh, those beans sound really good! I've copied down the ingredients and am going to try that. I don't have any home grown yard long beans of course but Mr. Kroger usually has some 6 inch ones which probably would do in a pinch.
ReplyDeleteI am still amazed at how big Eli actually is!
Eli is huge! and so beautiful and sweet.
ReplyDeleteI love sunflowers ans zinnias in the garden too. but my zinnias are looking straggly this year. The spring was too cold.
That Eli is a big fluffy white ball of snowball FLUFFY FUR, just want to hug him--he's gorgeous. Love your pretty zinnias.......going to plant me some again and maybe a hurricane won't blow them away this time, LOL. Those green beans sure look delicious in that skillet. We've had no luck growing beans but are doing good with peppers so far this year, both red and green, so we are excited about that, and we are hopefull on the "maters"!!!
ReplyDeleteAw! The bunny! So sweet. Eli, too!
ReplyDeleteA joy to see Eli, he is such a handsome boy. Te harvest is a reward for all the hard work and looks wonderful.
