Catching up

Didn't plan to be away so long. Where do the days go anyhow, and how will I ever catch up?

Maybe I should begin with the fish wagon. Seems like in my last post, I mentioned waiting for Poppy to get home so we could go meet the Fish Wagon in Spring Hope...

Well we did, and was waiting there when the big truck pulled in and stopped.

Poppy there on the left waiting to pick up our one hundred baby catfish.

A handsome dog was at the wheel! and a cutie in the back seat.

All these little catfish are now swimming in the pond. Well, except for three or four that we lost.

Back in 1996 when the pond was stocked, 50 catfish were included.

Now when we feed them only three or four big catfish show up to eat.

Hopefully, all the little catfish will fit in and grow big and healthy.

Also going on here...after setting out roses around the birdbath and adding mulch...

it made the adjoining beds in front look awful...

So I have been busy for three days now, digging up all this Liriope that has taken over the front yard, leaving just the variegated you can barely see over on the far right. Also pulled up all the old pine straw and replaced it with pine bark mulch.

By the way, I have gone crazy over Chives! These have been so pretty this summer, but see all the ugly Liriope!

All three beds in front are cleaned out, redone, and pretty. and I am worn out! I will take pictures for next time.

Oh, guess who made a bed in the new mulch...

while Poppy wasn't looking..

Eli says, "I don't care. It felt good".

Guess that's about it for now. Thank you friends, if you've managed to read this far. :)

Thank you new followers. I appreciate your friendship.

Love,
Henny

  1. You sure can work hard!!! Your newly cleaned flowerbeds look great. Are those Garlic Chives? I have regular chives that have purple flowers and Garlic Chives that have white ones, that's why I wondered.
Oh yes, I wanted to say that I love that first picture. So pretty.

  4. I think you've been very busy and VERY productive. What a beautiful garden bed with the birdbath. Was this the first time you had to restock the pond since 1996? If so, that's amazing! What a fun thing to do. Now you can watch them grow into huge catfish like the others. Eli looks so sweet and completely unrepentant! Ha!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. Butchy did the same thing a couple of weeks ago. I called him and he came to the door a total mess with mulch stuck in his fur. Oh well, boys will be boys and they had great fun getting dirty, LOL.

  9. Hi Henny- Your Bird Bath looks terrific with all the new plants and mulch. Good that you and Poppy are re-stocking the pond with the Cat Fish...I'm assuming that the Fish are good to eat as well. Great Post- as always. Stay Well. Cheers. KEV.

  10. You are one hard working lady, I love your bird bath flower bed and those chive blooms are so pretty too. I've worked outside more the past few days, a bit of a drop in temps and humidity makes all the difference. Have a nice weekend. ~ I LOVE that pond reflection photo, just wonderful with a bit of clouds in it too ~ FlowerLady

  12. Wonderful to have the pond restocked, hoping they settle and thrive. Lots of hard work keeping your garden so pretty but worth all the effort.

  13. The days are just whizzing by. I can't believe it's already the end of September. Always so much to do. I guess that's a good thing though, it means life is full. I love the way your porch looks. So inviting!

  14. What a beautiful pond Henny, I can see Poppy fishing off the dock, and those huge catfish just sailing by, and taunting him !
You've achieved a lot of rearranging and planting lately, I know it feels good once the work is all done.
I've never seen Eli look so messy...lol he's having some fun :)

  15. Awwww, Eli looks so cute and you captured his expression of it feeling good so well. Oh by the by, to any of you who have cats, I read today of a woman whose cat started having problems walking and seeing, the vet tested him and found he’d developed a neurological disorder as he had started licking the salt lamp she had bought. They are dangerous, very toxic to cats.

You have sure been busy! Everything is looking so nice there. Our chive plants have been beautiful this year too.

  17. Sure glad to have you back Henny! You are so ambitious...and I'm sure all of your new projects will turn out looking grand! Wow ...the catfish sure do get big in your pond! Hope most of the new ones survive! Is it still very hot by you? If so, hope you cool down soon. Ha.... that Eli is pretty sneaky, at least he probably thinks he is, not noticing all the mulch still hanging off of him! Take care!

  22. Love the post as always. Eli sure has personality plus, doesn't he? I didn't know you stocked your pond with catfish, but I bet its a lot of fun to have them to feed. You work rings around me, Henny, you are my role model to aspire to. Love, Terry

  23. Oh, look at Eli, with his nose in the air!! I think the more fur a pup has, the more opinionated he is about its tending :) I know about that monkey grass ... we have some of it. It does get so tired looking about this time of year! Your catfish look interesting! Can't wait to hear more about their adventures in their new home.

  24. Wondering if you eat the catfish or is there another purpose for them in the pond?
