That old sweet Smokey kept me company in the kitchen last night...
and...
the wild 'Pussytoes' are beginning to bloom. Aren't they cute? The blooms look and feel just like the soft little toes on a kitty.
Said I would be back with pictures of the yellow water iris around the pond, so starting here at the dam...
up the hill to the mimosa tree...
Well, surely I have worn out my welcome. There's lots of work to be done today, so I need to get busy. Oh, The teeny tiny garden is planted. Not much to show yet, but I'll be back.
Thank you for the nice comments on my last post.

He looked like he could hardly hold his eyes open but we talked about baby birds and little bunny rabbits.
"With all the cans of kitty cat food we open every day, you need to stay away from little bird's nests and baby bunnies", I told him.
"Oh mom, you know me. I wouldn't hurt a flea".
"That rocking chair over there looks mighty comfortable".
"Are we about done here"?
and...

Said I would be back with pictures of the yellow water iris around the pond, so starting here at the dam...
then across the front toward the pier...
and across the little footbridge...
to the pier...
and on around...
and way over on the other side by the woods...
not that it's all that great, but the amazing thing is that we bought one, just one, water iris in 1996 and planted it by the pond. Well, surely I have worn out my welcome. HaHa! I think old Smokey listened to every single
ReplyDeleteword you said..HeHe! I don't think it sunk in though..! :).
It's funny..you feed and love pussy~cats..but..they will
still go out and hunt, kill and eat birds, mice etc..Well,
mice, that's o.k l suppose, my George used to bring them home,
as they are gifts, l used to make a fuss of him, pick up said
mouse, and dispatch it..Bless! :(.
I do love that lake/pond of yours Henny, it really is very
special, and with the Iris around it, sets it off really
lovely...I promise not to mention anything about a torso! :).
Well..there we go....Ah! Rocking chair jokes..
A friend of mine failed his rocking chair exam. He’s going to resit...
How do you make a hot dog stand? Take it’s chair away...
I bought a rocking chair. It keeps playing Black Sabbath...
Not happy. Someone has stolen my rocking chair.
I’m not going to take this sitting down...

Iris Flower Color Meanings....
DeleteWhile any iris symbolizes royalty, wisdom and valor,
the color of the bloom also affects the message the
flower carries...
Purple – The traditional meaning of purple irises is
royalty, but that isn’t its only meaning. Purple can
also represent wisdom, respect and compliments...
Blue – Blue irises are symbolic of hope and faith.
Yellow – Yellow irises symbolize passion.
White – White irises expresses purity and innocence...
Hi Henny- your Cat 'Smokey' looks to be a real nice Cat- very homely and nice to have around. I had a Cat named 'Tiddles' when I was a youngster- what a great Cat- she would sit in your lap and just 'purr' away on a Winters Night. Your Lake looks lovely with all the flowering plants - just great that they have all grown from the one planting. Best Wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteLove your conversation with Smokey, hope he listens well:) Who would have believed that planting one yellow water iris would spread like that...beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI'm smiling at little Smokey, he surely looks like he's taking your conversation to heart :)
ReplyDeleteWhat stunningly beautiful Iris bordering all around your pond, they look so bright and sunny, and so many of them.
Hope you have a wonderful day in the garden today, it's the most perfect of weather.
Hugs,
~Jo
Amazing that nature would give you all that beauty from just one plant! Poor Smokey...maybe you need to go see your girls for better conversations?
ReplyDeleteThe only thing my kitty says in the kitchen is"feed me".
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing how the water iris has spread!
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look so pretty around the pond. Love the cat photos too. Looks like your weather is much better than ours. Have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe you got all those pretty water irises from one plant! Amazing! Oh, wanted to let you know that Molly went for her one year check-up and she scored an A+ from the vet. She weighs 91.5 pounds. The vet said she could probably stand to lose 5 pounds. Molly and me both! Can't wait to see your garden!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of pussytoes; but what a pretty little flower. Ty. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh wow....such a beautiful place. gorgeous water lilies and it is so neat that they have spread like this.
ReplyDeleteLoved your conversation with Smokey...what a pretty kitty. I have has similar conversations with our ferals and it seems like putting out endless bowls of cat food is wall we get done. Oh that lovely pond area...I would have a hard time prying myself away and getting anything done...those irises are stunning!
ReplyDeleteLove your pond, Henny, always beautiful and such a nice picture of natural beauty! Thanks for sharing it, Terry
ReplyDeleteONE water iris produced all those lovely yellow blooms? Wow, that's really amazing, it's obviously very happy there!!
ReplyDeleteHow pretty all the Iris look. Amazing they all came from ONE.
ReplyDeleteIn other words you have a plant that spreads very easily.I hope it knows when to quit.
ReplyDeleteHello Sweet Friend,
ReplyDeleteYour place is delightful, and your photos make me want to stroll around your pond and sit out on your pier and just enjoy the tranquility. It looks wonderful :) Pussytoes are a new flower to me.
Thanks for sharing and thank you for the comments that you have left on my blog.
You're a lovely lady,
Connie :)
Oh my - your pond is so pretty! I've never heard of pussytoes.
ReplyDeleteSmokey is a sweet companion.
It's good that you have a plant that spreads that you actually want! Your water iris are so pretty lining the pond.
ReplyDeleteSmokey seems to be a good listener.
Wow Henny....your yellow Irises are just gorgeous. And love that Smokey....his coat is such a beautiful color....reminds me of my Clyde-boy from many years ago. They used to say Clyde was a Russian Blue cat! He had huge feet too. Good luck keeping ole smokey away from the baby birds and bunnies! Thanks for your awesome pics, as usual. Love your blog.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow water Iris are so lovely and to think that they all came from one plant. That's getting a good return for your money.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a plant called Pussy toes before but I can imagine how soft those buds/flowers would feel.
What a pretty pretty place y'all have there! Love the spring pictures, and those yellow iris flowers are so pretty around the water...I was just gettin ready to ask "did y'all plant all those?", and then read where you only planted one a long time ago, they sure are pretty. Your beautiful Smokey is the exact image of our beautiful Smokey, we lost this past year. I miss him so so much, he was with me all the time. I lost both Gypsy and Smokey w/in months of each other. I've had many Russian Blue kitties over the years, they are the sweetest cats!
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow water iris. It's amazing what nature can do if conditions are right. I've never heard of nor seen pussytoes. I looked them up and found that they're in the aster family, but parts of them are poisonous so deer and small animals leave them alone. I'm glad that you've gotten your garden planted. It's much too wet here to plant. I hope the current wave of storms pass you by; the winds are intense and the rain torrential.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed seeing Smokey this morning. He has pretty cute 'pussy toes' too. I have never seen that plant before. I love your bridge on the property. So darn cute. Everything looks lovely where you are. All because of all yours and Poppy's hard work. I know you love every minute of it, though.
ReplyDeleteAnnie is doing well, recuperating slowly but surely. Sending a hug to all.
Ah Henny your Smokey kitty brought back memories of my dear Smokey who has gone home forever. He was a sweet boy too. As for your Irises - they are simply beautiful. Imagine that many spreading from one plant. Thanks for sharing. Will be looking forward to seeing your garden. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSmoky’s last picture made me laugh. That look is priceless.
ReplyDeleteI have not had a cat since I was younger. I just go over and play with the neighbors cat which I acutally rescued a couple years ago and she took it in.
Lisa
Wow, that’s quite a crop of yellow irises! Beautiful. Smoky is good company in the kitchen. I usually have Bob the Border Collie at my feet, ever hopeful that something will land in her treat bowl.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures of Smokey.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow Iris is beautiful, what a wonderful colour.
All the best Jan
I so enjoy my visits with you. How tall do your water irises get? When I was in California, they were taller than me. I had never seen them before and did not think to look them up. but they sure look like yours.
ReplyDeleteOh, he's a beauty! I have Slate and Smokey...both that gorgeous color of gray!
ReplyDeleteYour Iris are just beautiful! You have good company in the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed every single word and photo of this post, thank you for bringing this to us!
ReplyDeleteawesome...cat and flowers
ReplyDeleteI love your pond and the flowers are so pretty. I could see taking a stroll on a peaceful evening.
ReplyDeleteYour yellow irises are amazing! That must be a very happy spot for them, to spread like that. Dear Pussy Cat. I hope he listened to your wise advice and sticks to his kitty food!
