February is usually a cold, depressing month...for me anyway. But this February, well, we have had warm sunny days. It's like April here!
It was hard to come inside. I raked the paths, and spread pine straw, and picked up pine cones, and helped Poppy cut around the pond. I must have walked ten miles yesterday...well, actually, it was eight miles and there were 19,000 steps on my Fitbit at bedtime.
Rosie and Eli played too!
round and round the goat lot they chased each other.
Butting heads! Poppy cautioned Eli, don't let that baby goat hurt you with those horns! Rosie is a little pig when it comes to food. Can you tell?
Rosie is rotten. You should see her butting Eli right out of the teeny tiny barn!
Okay, time to rest!
Where's my teddy bear?
meanwhile, back at the teeny tiny sewing room...
another dolly. This one was in a thrift store in Raleigh several years ago. I made the dress and bonnet back then, but now want to make her a pretty white outfit.
Wish I could find out more about this doll. There is writing on her back, but it is scratched and hard to read. I can make out what looks like ?CEE cc 8 VS. She is 19 inches tall.
The pink quilt, if you can call it a quilt, was something to stitch on back when I was still employed. I'm not good at piecing quilts but enjoy the quilting part...so I put together a pretty piece of fabric, batting, and backing, pinned it all together and worked on it at night after supper.
just happened to see it folded in the closet and brought it out.
Better get busy. Poppy went in to work but will be home by noon. I'm fixing to drag out the vacuum cleaner, bad as I dread it...much rather be outside. It's sunny again today and supposed to reach 74!
Hope to be back soon.
Love,
Henny

Oh my goodness, lucky you having such beautiful weather! I would be outside all day too. Love the photos of Eli and Rosie. So sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely! Have a good day!
Thank you. It is hard to come inside when the weather is this nice. We have a cold front coming tomorrow night though.
DeleteWhat will happen, as Rosie gets bigger, and Eli does not?????? I mean, the bigger she gets, the more "thump" those horns will give. Eeeeek! But then, I suppose Eli has been through this before, playing with a little one, until it is no longer little......
ReplyDeleteOh what a precious doll outfit. It must be lovely to be able to sew such. But I can't imagine how you do it. A tiny version of regular sewing. I have enough trouble with the me-size. ,-)
Just noticed, you are not thrilled with cooking either! I can make a great apple pie, but daily dinners do not thrill me. Luckily, my husband likes to cook. So when he retired, he took over! Yesssss!!!! ,-)
Feb. and March can get "lonnnnnnng" for me. But I try, try, try to be content, in whatever month, I am in. But! Somewhere in the coming days...... I will just "have had it"! Then I break out the Hawaiian music and post pics of islands and beaches and etc. :-)
February hugs,
Luna Crone
Hey Luna Crone! Actually, Rosie, the goat is full grown. She is a very small breed. I don't think she would hurt Eli, at least I hope not.
DeleteI am not a great seamstress, that's for sure. I struggle lots of times trying to figure things out.
Thank you!
Rosie and Eli are so cute chasing one another! Henny, that doll is absolutely gorgeous and her outfit you made her is adorable. What a find! Your quilt is so pretty. My mother-in-law loved to make quilts. She did a lot of applique. I'm glad you found yours and put it out. I love seeing bedskirts on beds. They just make a bed look "finished" if you know what I mean. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dianna. I wish I were a good quilt maker.
DeleteThe weather is like that here, too. Enjoy and have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteThank you and you too Linda!
DeleteI'm with you - piecing quilts was so boring, stitching all those little pieces together. I always enjoyed hand quilting, which other people I imagine would find just as tedious.
ReplyDeleteThat spread looks fresh and "springy".
Oh it drives me crazy. I like the sitting and sewing part. :)
DeleteIt's much of the same here. My house still uses heat but outside you almost feel like taking a jacket off
ReplyDeleteHere too Adam.
DeleteI would be outside, too . . . it must be hard to stay in and vacuum, but that's a job that doesn't take long. Enjoy your beautiful weather . . . this morning our pipes froze again. That's what we get for listening to the weatherman, he said that it wasn't going to get that cold, so we didn't leave the sink dripping. Your doll is beautiful in that outfit you made. You're such a great seamstress.
ReplyDeleteOh frozen pipes are a pain. We actually had on freeze and burst during that cold spell we had in January when the temp dropped to 9 degrees. Thank you, Connie.
DeleteWhat a joy to see the animals frolicking in the sunshine. Love the quilt you made, really pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe marks on the doll might be EEGEE CO. I tried to find a doll on line with the markings you gave, and decided that the missing letters must be part of this company's name. It made a smaller doll similar to this one, a 10 inch doll that drinks and wets. I had a Betsy Wetsy doll and the mouth of this one is made for drinking from a bottle, so it reminds me of that doll. The smaller one I found was on ETSY. You can do a Google search for EEGEE black dolls, but when I did, this one did not show up. I love the fabric on that quilt. I used to quilt around the design on fabric, too, instead of piecing. I took a class once in a quilt shop and found a pattern for a lap quilt called a magic pillow. I've also heard them called a quillow. It makes a lap quilt that folds up into a pouch so you have a decorative pillow when you aren't using the quilt. I bought fabric printed in blocks for making the throw pillow and quilted around the designs. I still use one and put it on my lap so my feet go into the pouch and stay warm. The pouch ends up on the back of the quilt top when it's open.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your warm weather! I'ts like spring already and it's still early February. I'm afraid things will bloom too early here and get frozen. At least in your area things aren't likely to freeze, even if it cools off.
Thank you Peg. I've seen EEGEE but could not remember that those first two letters were EE, thank you. I did look on line some and did not see a doll like this one. I want to look again. You are always helpful.
DeleteI like buying fabric too that I can quilt around the design. Actually, I have a full size quilt that I made from fabric like that.
and the weather...I am enjoying being outside but there are buds ready to open and I am so afraid everything will be killed.
That Rosie & Eli are so cute. And Eli with his teddy...melts my heart. :)Enjoy your weather. I would love to see grass or even dirt right now. It's a winter wonderland here. Hey, where's Smokey these days?
ReplyDeleteThank you Deb. That Smokey, right now, is under the bed in the sewing room, on top of a suitcase asleep. He is a mess! :)
DeleteYay for you, Henny! That is a major step day!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I really overdid the steps. I've been tired ever since. :)
DeleteI really like all the layers on your bed. Also, I like "one piece" quilt and if I could make one I'd make it with plain white fabric and maybe get it quilted with a swirl pattern by one of the ladies that have the terribly expensive machines that quilt almost automatically. I have a SIL that likes to make quilt tops but not do the actual quilting and that's what she does.
ReplyDeleteEli and Rosie playing is so cute.
Thank you. You know, I've thought about making an all white quilt too. Wouldn't that be beautiful! We need to do that! :)
DeleteWow 19,000 steps! I'm guessing you slept well that night. It was a warm day here too. I didn't even wear a jacket when I was out and about. It's looks as though your farm critters were having a fun day too.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, I was simply worn out. I overdid it! :)
DeleteThat was a lot of steps! I got a little over 17,000 on Saturday when I worked 16 hours and I thought that was good.
ReplyDeleteRosie is awfully cute, even though she is naughty. :)
I really like your pink quilt and the little doll
Oh, 17,000 is amazing! I wondered if my Fitbit was working right when I saw 19,000 but I really felt those many steps. :)
DeleteYour weather looks pretty nice to me!
ReplyDeleteOh it really is nice. Wish you were here. :)
DeleteWe've had the same warm weather here for the past week, it really stirs my soul !
ReplyDeleteEli and Rosie are great friends, and yes, those little horns can be deadly, pocked in the wrong place :)
Pretty little doll Henny !
~Jo
I do worry about those little horns. Thank you Jo.
DeleteYou have nice weather! Fun to see Eli and Rosie playing! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Far Side!
DeleteI'm envious of your weather! We are buried in a ton of snow here, and now there is a big storm coming that is going to make a real mess. That is soo cute, Eli and Rosie playing! We need video ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh my, I saw all that deep snow on your blog. It is amazing!
DeleteMama, I love the photos of Rosie and Eli! So sweet. They were having fun! Your sewing room quilt looks so pretty. Makes me want to clean up here and bring out some quilts. I have one of the quilts you made back in those days where you worked all the time. I love you, Mommy! ~Your oldest girl who wanted to always stay inside with you while Daddy and Andee worked in the yard.
ReplyDeleteHey Lynn. I remember that quilt. Pink and black mostly and in the fan pattern. Yes, you always wanted to be with me, and that made me happy. I can just see Andee in those overalls, can't you?
DeleteYes! With her chewing gum!
DeleteYour doll has such a sweet face! I have no idea what the markings on her are but perhaps you could google and find out. The quilt is so pretty. You can buy "cheater" fabric that looks like a pieced quilt but is all one piece. Many people get those and quilt it and it looks very pretty. EBay is always offering those fabrics. Eli and Rosie look like quite a pair. I'm glad that Eli knows when to stop and play with his teddy bear.
ReplyDeleteI have loved tis visit...loved seeing Eli and Rosie. They look like the best of friends.
ReplyDeleteLove the cute pics of Rosie and Eli. I love the pink quilt. It looks so pretty on that bed. You know I love dolls, too. What a beauty this is and I look forward to seeing her new outfit. It has been spring like here too but overnight we had a terrible thunderstorm and this a.m. it is in the 30's!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
I love to see goats playing. We had twin kids once and they were so much fun to watch. I agree with you on making quilts -- it's the quilting and not the piecing that I like to do. I have bought two old quilt tops that people have not finished and enjoyed putting them together and doing the quilting. I started to piece one once and didn't like doing it at all. It ended up a doll quilt!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to see such playfulness! What a pretty doll!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Eli and Rosie had a great time playing.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on all those steps. Good for you!!!
The bed looks beautiful.
The animal photos are so cute, it looks like they had a great time together. I don't have any information on your doll - sorry. Your quilt is quite pretty, it looks perfect on the bed.
ReplyDeletelove love love the pictures of Rosie and Eli playing! So cute playing together! I buy dolls at the thrift stores all the time too....some of them are total mysteries aren't they? ha ha LOL I clean them up and put pretty clothes on them.
ReplyDeleteIt must have been fun to watch Rosie and Eli play. I love watching animals! Your dolly is so sweet. And the pretty dress you made. I have never quilted in my life, but certainly have admiration for those who do. So many of us are envious of your warm temps. I'd love to be outdoors working! Have a great weekend.
