Walking Eli

Poppy and I walked Eli around the pond late yesterday.

Eli wore his leash. We have read too many stories of how Pyrenees will wander off. Eli is good to stay in the yard with us, but if we walk up and down the road, or around the pond, we keep him on a leash.  Just across the woods a ways, a young couple keep dogs tied in their back yard. We don't want Eli to go off visiting.

All these hot pink flowers, Obedient Plant, have grown from a handful I pulled from the front yard a few years ago. Guess they must be happy here.

And another thing!

We're going to whip Poppy for telling Eli that he looks like Foghorn Leghorn.

Eli has pretty legs!  He does not look anything like that silly rooster. One of our favorite old cartoons was "Foghorn Leghorn".

Better get busy. I hope to get the back of Poppy's shop cleaned and painted today and here it is lunch time already! Where do the days go?!!

Love,
Henny

  1. How rude, to compare Eli the Magnificent to that strutting rooster. I am sure that it was water off a ducks back to Eli. Those pink flowers certainly look at home.

    1. Hey Pam. Yes, Eli just ignores Poppy's teasing.

  2. Actually have to agree with Poppy. Those legs do look familiar.

  3. I bet Eli takes Poppy's teasing with a big grain of salt.

Those obedient plants are really pretty. Not so obedient though since they certainly will spread. I have a big clump of them in one bed along with purple asters and the colors look so pretty together. Especially this time of year when other things are about played out.

Better go check the beans. Snap beans simmered with pork jowl bacon and onions. Oh so good. I'm not a fan of those crunchy green beans you are always being served in restaurants. Although those little skinny french beans are pretty good some times.

    1. He actually loves it. I've never seen anything like the way obedient plants spread. I pull the plants out of the ground after they bloom and throw them across the road. Now we have them blooming there. Your beans sound delicious! I'm the same way. I love beans cooked slowly and seasoned with pork fat back...no crunchy green beans for me. Well, I did enjoy those long skinny beans stir fried in olive oil. That was something new to me. I want to try the onions and pork jowl bacon.

  4. Oh, the days are starting to get shorter and they seem to just fly by. I think Eli is beautiful . . . one of the prettiest dogs I have ever seen. You must brush him all the time, his coat is amazing :) It is always fun exploring your property, the woods, the pond, and all the wildflowers . . . such a lovely spot to live. Here's wishing you an amazingly lovely week.

    1. Thank you Connie. Hope you are having a good week too. The days are getting shorter and to think in December it will be getting dark at 5:00 pm! At least I will have more time to spend in the sewing room at night.

  5. Hmm, Eli's legs do look as if they are sort of short for his size. But who's looking at his back legs with all that handsomeness up front! I imagine Eli could take you for a ride if he decided he wanted to go the other way?

    1. Oh Cynthia, sometimes Eli scares me when I take him out and he spots a deer. He can actually pull me along, no matter how firmly planted my feet are planted. Thank goodness he listens and minds good.

  6. Uh, afraid I have to vote with Poppy, but Cynthia's right. The front definitely cancels out the back!
Nice to see someone still has flowers.

  9. We never take Keeper off the property without his harness and leash on. For the same reasons. We have read over and over how GP's will roam and go .. and well lets face it they don't always mind like some breeds do. They can be stubborn!!! So yep we always put his harness and leash on him when we take him on a walk down the road with us. :O)... Better safe than sorry for sure! Keeper is actually very tall, even his Vet who also has GPs made a comment as to how tall he is. :O)... Counter surfer height that is for sure.. he has no trouble just walking up to the kitchen counter and putting his chin on it lol... though he doesn't take things off the counter that are not his. That is a good thing. I can't take credit for that. He just doesn't LOL

    1. Stubborn!! You are so right! Sometimes when we go out for a walk, Eli will sit down on the top step if I turn to walk toward the goat lot. I have to ask, which way do you want to go? Then he gets up and we go to the right. It's amazing. I've wondered if a harness would work better than just a collar. Is there a harness you would recommend? That putting his chin on the counter, we get so tickled at Eli resting his chin on things and smelling but he won't touch anything unless we give it to him. His chin just barely reaches the bar. Aren't these dogs just the best!

  11. Hi! Poor Eli, Tell him he is beautiful! How do you keep him so nice and white and clean when you take him for a walk?? Time sure does fly by here and I don't accomplish much! Have a good night. Nancy

    1. I will do that. Thank you! He is the easiest dog to keep clean. The dirt just seems to brush off, even his feet stay clean. I don't feel like I accomplish much of anything. I start on a lot though! :) :)

  16. Eli has much better looking legs than that cartton character! These are most definitely a beautiful breed of dog...and usually very friendly too. Cute post, Penny :)

  17. Eli has beautiful feathers...but looks nothing like a chicken.

I have no idea what we caught on the game cam. I keep hoping for a unicorn.
