Seriously, A book Post!

Okay friends, picture this; me, writing a post on the books I've read recently and those I want to read. Yes, that is exactly what I am doing...and drinking tea, and relaxing, and wearing reading glasses. Gosh, will wonders never cease! I'm glad none of you can see me!

Seriously, want to know what got me started?

It was when Marty Damon's book "Earthly Needs" became available at Amazon. Marty's blog, martywdamon.blogspot.com  is one of my favorites. I could not wait to get her book ordered and read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Then it was Donna at anenchantedcottage.blogspot.com who told me about the book, " The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly", by SUN-MI HWANG so I ordered it too.

Oh my goodness, I loved this little book about a chicken. In four days I had finished both books.

So now, fired up about reading I did a search through the bookcase and found the book "Maggie Sweet" by Judith Minthorn Stacy. This is one of Shelby's books. I had promised to read it and return it a few years ago but never did. Oops! I finished this one in two days and loved it!

So now I am about half way through the book "At Home In Mitford" by Jan Karon. This is one of Shelby's all time favorite books and I can see why. Oh my! I want to live in Mitford.

Even before reading those first two books, I read and enjoyed the book, "More Than a Ticket" by Argie Ella Hoskins. I found Argie's blog while writing a post about my Daddy's business trips to New York  in the 1950's. Argie's book is full of great pictures and stories from those years. Argie was an Airline Stewardess for American Airlines in the 50's. Being an airline stewardess was my dream in high school.

I've never been one to sit and read. Very intelligent people are avid readers, right? Wonder if I would become intelligent if I became an avid reader? Very doubtful. Now Shelby has always been an avid reader. Mama used to say, "Shelby has always got her head stuck in book". Growing up, I would get so tired of Shelby and her reading. She never heard a word I said! We were supposed to be playing but no, Shelby had to read every word on everything! Guess that's why she was always in the Beta Club in school and I barely got passing grades. I love you anyway, Shelby! :)

Better get busy. There's lots of work to be done around here. No time to waste sitting around. :)

Love,
Henny

  1. Hi Henny, I am glad you enjoy the Mitford books. I have loved them for years. I am like Shelby, always reading. Well, not much these last few months since Chuck has been retired but I hope to get back to it over the winter.

  2. I am a reader and yesterday was lucky enough to be given 2 bags of books, I sorted through them today and have 14 to read sand a few to rehome. They are on the back burner till the weather turns, too much to do outside right now.

  3. I like to read but it is usually when I can't get out and about outside due to the bad weather so I have a few ready for the winter.

  5. I like to read, but I just seem to run out of time each day lately. I'm glad you took the time to get lost in books.

  7. Hi Henny Penny, I like the Mitford books too and have the They called her Mrs. Doc book and writing down some of the other names you suggested! I will have to look at Shelly's blog also. Hard to read and take care of all your little pets! Nancy .

  8. I will have to remember your book list and read some. I love to read especially in the winter time. Oh by the way that is Jimmy that the farmer is rubbing his head.

  9. I love to read, and as a kid I was like Shelby, with my head always stuck in a book. I used to read while drying the dishes, and having a bath. I haven't read much in the way of books lately, but just today Larry said he wanted to go by the library in the next day or two, so we will do that, and then I'll get even less done next week!

  10. I'm always happy to see what others are reading and what they recommend. I started reading one of the Mitford books years ago ( can't remember which one) and couldn't really get into it. Maybe I'll try again .

  11. I'm always reading and I think it's great to see that you've caught the bug, too. You know, this is the second time today that I've heard the author Jan Karon so now I have to start looking out for her books. Happy reading and have a lovely weekend... :)

  12. Oh, I'm so glad to hear that you are sitting around and relaxing for a change. Now I don't feel nearly so lazy as I generally do after reading your posts about all the things that you accomplish in a day's time. Everybody needs to sit down and take it easy once in awhile. Reading is one of my favorite things to do and I always have at least one book going. Never read anything very heavy or studious but am always reading something.

I find it hard to believe that you were not a good student. There are so many kinds of intelligence that you can't pigeonhole yourself as a poor student since other things can add to a persons store of knowledge that more than make up for "book learning".

  13. Going over to read the blogs you noted. Funny thing is, I bought the first two Mitford books a week ago after seeing a post on the author's latest book of the series. I always like to start at the start of a series, so bought number one (At Home...) and number two.

  14. I love to read! My problem these days, is time. Once I get going on a book I don't want to stop till I am done! LOL

  15. I am going to investigate the blogs too and definitely have to get a copy of "The Hen Who Dreamed". I will NOT share it with the hens, though. Sweet Pea thinks she is a linebacker and Golda imagines herself as the wild adventurer. We don't need any other chicken aspirations!

  16. Oh, Henny, I love the Mitford books, too! I've read them all more than once, kind of like revisiting an old friend now and then. I'll have to look into your other recommendations. And I love Marty's blog, too. She is such a clever writer.
