Wildflowers along the path

Many of the wild flowers that bloom in the fall are yellow. I love them! The masses of Goldenrods growing along our dirt path are not in bloom yet. A big pot of Goldenrods for the table on the front porch. That's what I am waiting for.

Poppy and I were out and about early this morning. My plan, you know, was to shop for some fall decorations. Shoot! couldn't find anything. Most of the artificial stuff looks too, well, artificial for a log cabin. We did manage to ride home with a bag of fall colored candy corn but my Advil had worn off and the last thing I wanted was sugar on my hurting teeth.

Jimmy, from the little driver's license agency/seed and feed store, where I hang a few aprons and bonnets, was in Food Lion yesterday. He pulled thirty dollars from his pocket for Poppy to bring home to me. Some sweet lady had bought a bonnet and apron. Food Lion has for sale, large pots of fall colored mums, two for ten dollars. Think I'll buy two and a pumpkin. That would be a good start, don't you think?

Just wouldn't be complete without these two.

Poppy just cut the TV off so I will get a move on. Hope to be back soon. :)

Love,
Henny

  3. A pot of Goldenrod and a couple of lovely Mums will look so nice. Add a pumpkin and you're well on your way to decorating your home for the season. I'm sorry your teeth still hurt. Hopefully soon they'll quit.

    1. Thank you. I think it's not really my teeth hurting as much as it is just a sore mouth from the surgery and stitches. Sometimes it's hard to tell. It is feeling much better now.

  4. Nothing nicer than a couple of Mums on the porch, they to me are the essence of the season.

    1. Porches are great. We don't use ours as much as we should. I rarely sit and enjoy the swing and what a shame. Hope you got a porch soon. :)

  6. Funny - I'd never thought about it before, but the first flowers of spring are always yellow. I guess nature just goes full circle.

    1. That's right. I had not thought about that either. All the Jonquils that bloom first.

  8. I know you've probably answered this before, but what breed is your dog? Love the picture of him and the goat. Goldenrod drives my sinus's wild, can't have it near, it and ragweed.

    1. Eli is a Great White Pyrenees...and a big old teddy bear! :) I remember as a teenager once picking a big vase of Goldenrod flowers for my room. During the night my brother who suffered with hay fever woke everybody in the house up with his sneezing and coughing. Mama figured out the next morning that it was my pot of flowers. I've read lately that Goldenrods do not cause hay fever. ??

  10. The mums and pumpkin will look beautiful together. One of those purple-grey ornamental cabbages would fit in nicely too. Sorry to hear your teeth are still hurting-----less and less as the days go by I hope.

Sneaky, sneaky just had to get in the picture.....I spy three creatures.

    1. Hey Vic. I've never had any of the ornamental cabbages. That would be pretty. Sometimes I think it is just my mouth being sore from the surgery and stitches, more than hurting teeth. Hope so anyway. I am better though. Smokey did sneak into that last picture.

    1. The Joe Pye Weed here is about gone. It would be pretty in a vase. I just may cut what's left out of the ditch. I did not know female goats would grow such big horns...but these two did. :)

  12. I'm enjoying lots of new wildflowers in South Carolina and fall is definitely yellow here, too. The little goat looks curious about what's going on with the camera. Quite photogenic!

    1. Hey Cynthia. The roadsides there probably look much like the ones here. That white goad is always curious and the black goat stays hidden. :)

  13. Hi! I would love to walk down a path like that! I am tempted to cut some golden rod to dry. I am kind of afraid of allergies but I think I have read or heard that it is not golden rod that people are allergic to. My neighbor use to collect it to dry. Love the animals. Glad you could make some sales!! Nancy

  14. Gorgeous flowers! You have a Maremma! I so would love one. I was just watching a show last night about Maremmas right here in my part of country Victoria that are used to protect fairy penguins from foxes. Lovely story and they are making it into a movie called Birddog. You will have to watch out for it! Thanks for coming to visit me - it is wonderful to 'meet' like-minded new friends.

    1. I've read numerous times that it isn't goldenrod that causes the allergies but ragweed, which blooms at the same time and is much less conspicuous, that is the culprit

    2. I've read that it is not Goldenrod that causes the problem too. That's good to know. I would like to hang some to dry like Nancy mentioned.

  17. There is some goldenrod blooming here still. I like to pick it to put in the bouquets, but have to get it as it is just starting to open, because very quickly it starts to show brown on the tips.
Cute how Smokey appeared in that last picture:)

  18. Oh yes...I know you know all about those country roads, Penny. You are right, many of the wildflowers are yellow but this late summer I have been noticing many other lovely colors around here. This post is so very lovely :)

  20. Sometimes you just leave me shaking my head at your lifestyle and how different it is from mine now, but how much it reminds me of my growing up years on the farm. I feel very fortunate to have found you in the blogosphere.
