Another animal post

Our peace maker around here.

What with dentist appointments, doctor appointments, vet appointments, and baby animals everywhere I look, why there's no time for anything else.

Lately it has been a full time job taking care of animals

like this little "Punkin" taking up my time! When my son-in-law saw the new bunny's picture he said to Andee, "your mom needs to name him Punkin". So that settles my trying to pick a name from that perfect list. At least, if one day "Punkin" and "BunBun" have babies, we will have lots of names to choose from.

And good grief, that mama guinea with the eight, well now seven, babies. She is bound and determined to sleep in that cedar tree high above the chicken lot and calls her babies to do the same.

I wish you could have seen the chaos at roosting time one evening last week.  Why, it was pathetic. There were baby guineas falling. Some landing in the  chicken lot and some in the grape vines.

Late in the day an idea hit me...

Seriously, as soon as I drug out this tall ladder and opened it,  the babies began using it. It was the cutest thing. The videos are not great but will give you an idea of how sweet this was.

Every evening now the guinea crowd gathers at the foot of the ladder and the babies begin climbing up to bed. There are still two babies who absolutely can't fly. I catch them and they sleep in a cage next to "Punkin". Come morning light, I open the cage door and they join the others.

Yesterday it was a trip to the vet for Weetie. She has an eye infection. Could it be the constant rough-housing with Smokey? Always one chasing the other.

Hopefully, things will settle down a little. I've got housework to do, and gardening too. Now that we've had some rain I need to dig holes and set out some of these fruit trees that have outgrown their pots. I'm so behind with everything!

Thank you for visiting.

Love,
Henny

By the way, for my blogging friends in Canada, my sister Shelby and husband Jimmy, along with cousin Pat and husband Mike are vacationing in Green Mountain Canada this week. Oh my, I do envy them. I really want to go to Canada...only I want go and stay!  :)

I just happen to be going out there to give the chickens some veggy scraps from my lunch salad I had fixed!! Thank heaven I did!! whew... I couldn't believe it when I saw it! As you say its always something!

    1. That is scary when a hawk gets brave enough to fly into the coop. We have lots of hawks around here too. The chickens always make a dash for the house when one flies over.

You can't move to Canada! You have too many little American babies.

  5. What a great idea you had ( the ladder for the chicks). Good thing you had that little video because I was having a hard time imagining how they climbed!!
Do you know what province Green Mountain is in? I have never heard of it and Google isn't helping me much.
You have gardening to do? What is your daytime temperature at this time of year? Here we had a warmer than normal day 22 C which is71 F. I'm so glad my son printed out a sheet that shows every degree of temp. in Celsius and gives the F. next to it. I grew up with F. but then the powers that be changed it to C. and I'm still not sure whats what.

    1. I should have said cleaning up in the garden. But, the tomatoes still have a few green one and I am getting a few green beans. Our first frost is usually around October 15th, so it won't be long. I totally do not understand Celsius. I could use a sheet to hang up. :) Green Mountain is in Ontario. You can see a video on Green Mountain Trail on "YouTube". My sister told me about Green Mountain. I really know absolutely nothing about Canada except the pictures are beautiful and the Canadian blogging friends are very special.

  6. I love the name Punkin, perfect for him. The ladder was such a great idea, it was lovely to watch them trying to get up there. We have had some glorious weather this last week so I have been able to get out into the garden, clearing beds and preparing everything for the winter. Have a good day.

    1. Thank you. Clearing the garden is what I need to do. We have now had a full week of rain and headed into several more days...maybe 4 to 5 inches by Sunday. Now we could use a break. :)

  7. I'm with Granny Marigold, where oh where is Green Mountain? I know where Pink Mountain is, but like GM said, Google isn't helping us out with Green Mountain. All I get are links to Green Mountain coffee and Keurig.
Great idea about the ladder by the way! Your animals certainly keep you busy!

    1. Karen, like I told Granny Marigold, I know absolutely nothing about Canada. My sister says Green Mountain is in Ontario. I did find a "YouTube" video on Green Mountain Trail. They do a lot of hiking. Canada looks beautiful and I just love you and my other blogging friends from Canada. If all the people in Canada are as nice as those I've met through my blog, then Canada must be a great place to live.

  13. It's good to see how all your animals get along with each other.

Will you sell the rabbit babies for fryers? or pets?

    Have a blessed evening.

    1. Oh Gail, If we ever have baby rabbits I would sell or give them away as pets. Mama used to cook wild rabbits. I could never sell one for a fryer. I know country folks are not supposed to feel this way. :)
