like some folks I know bring in daily from their garden...
You may remember the year I went to the garden and was greeted by the giant sunflower with a pretty face looking down at me...
A closer looks showed it was just the bees, and I thought my sunflower had come to life...
Oh, and one of my favorite oddities in the teeny tiny garden was the leek that grew and grew and attached itself to my heart...

and I was there in the garden when the beautiful leek removed it's night cap, revealing a head full of tiny flowers. I've tried since then to grow another leek but with no luck.
Anyhow, I was up bright and early yesterday morning and on my way to the farmer's market.
The fact that the weather is so very hot these days worried me a little, but I carried a small cooler filled with crushed ice. There was an amazing breeze all day that blew through the big open doors, making the day seem much cooler that it actually was...
Not a good picture and my table looked better from the front. Just wanted to show you a little of the building, it's huge. Big enough for ten or more vendors on each side and behind each vendor is a large roll-up door. Lucky me, when I look out here's my view...
A small but beautiful garden, maintained by the Master Gardners at the market. Didn't make much Saturday, but had fun. Oh, look at this sweet lady trying on one of my bonnets...
The farmer in the green shirt came by my table, picked up a bonnet and asked, "mind if I let someone try this on"? She looks adorable, doesn't she. She bought a bonnet and apron from me the first time I was a vendor there.
Good grief! 9:15 already! Poppy will be headed to bed soon. Guess I need to get up from here. I will leave you with Mokey again...
Yeah, he asked if I thought he would be a good ornament for the bird bath. :(

What a lovely park near where the Farmers Market is held. I think your garden is producing marvelously. If I got that much from mine I'd be over the moon!! I grew leeks one year but I don't remember ever having one bloom!

I think you must have had the best view in the building. I hope your sales do pick up since you have such lovely and handy products. I do think that lady is very cute in your hat. Did she buy another one or an apron. It does look as if your niece is trying to help out in the booth.

Melba, you always have such precious posts! I can't believe how green everything is in your area. Ours is all but burned to a crisp! We need rain so bad and the temps being well past 100* is really taking it's toll. How fun to have someone trying on your bonnets! Take care, dear one!

I love farmers markets to...though..they seemed to have
gotten a bit pricey over here recently..but..l believe in shopping
around anyway...l never shop in one place...! :)

So, did Smokey get a bird to land on his back? Good thing that is heavy concrete or he'd of flipped and gotten all wet. I am jealous you even get to plant veggies. But I see you tall fence around it all. I grow 2 potato plants on my patio in large plastic cat litter sacks. I may get 5 pounds. Every thing else, deer eat and I think they have enough out there already, lol. You had a fun and coolish day at the market, and sometimes that is worth more than any money ever. Lynn and Precious

ReplyDeleteYour garden vegetables look so pretty. I’ve been buying two sunflowers at the farmers market every Saturday for a bouquet and they are just so cheerful! We can’t get enough of them. I do hope Mokey isn’t birdwatching there!

I had a massive garden this year.
Lots of beautiful silver queen corn,blue lake green beans,squashes, onions.
Lots of tomatoes.
We always share with our neighbor's.
It all drowned. It rained and rained till
it rotted most of it.
There's always next year!

I love all these pictures and your bonnets are gorgeous! The soft drinks, I've never seen them at Wal mart, here we find them at the local grocery stores like Piggly Wiggly, not sure what your groceries are there in your neck of the woods?? But I hope you find some, they are good especially the root beers and creme sodas. Stay cool, maybe Fall breezes will arrive soon???!!

ReplyDeleteOh if you could only see our poor gardening results, you would be delighted that yours turned out so well! First we had the blossom end rot, then we had the scarring, (which we still don't know what caused that) and next the cutworms. Now we have had the birds pecking at them... I gave up at blossom end rot, but my sweet husband continues on...hoping he can fix it all.

I also recently sewed two aprons... it's so much fun to sew, but when someone buys something that's particularly beautiful, you know you've done a good job... and making others happy too.
