Oh my! Is it hot and humid where you are?
You know, last winter I waited and hoped and wished for spring and summer...telling myself, "I will not gripe and complain about the heat, not this summer". I craved the feel of warm sunshine on my bare arms and the healing powers of the sun for my aching body.
Have to admit, I have complained just a wee bit this month of July. It's so hot and humid!!
The sweet little canary yellow bird cage hangs empty at the playhouse...
Poppy did the painting and that's about as far as we got...
tomatoes are plentiful and some are kind of big...
and these Pablano peppers...
Back when the garden was just starting, our soon to be new neighbors, Steve and Loye stopped by and gave us four Pablano pepper plants.
I've Gooled and found a simple recipe for Rajas; Pablano peppers sauteed with onions and garlic, that looks good.
Well, we have been walking the dogs a little earlier these days because of the heat. Our boy Eli was sick yesterday...
Poppy asking him if he felt up to a walk this morning...can you believe our sweet Eli is almost eight years old now?
Eli did want to go. We had planned to be at the vet's office at eight this morning but whatever it was that made Eli sick, seemed to be gone. Obviously, he had eaten something that didn't agree with that big tummy of his. Vet told us to watch him today and bring him in if he gets sick again.

DeleteI always enjoy seeing your furry friends. We have been growing Poblano peppers the last few years, I roast them and dice them and freeze them to add to cooked dishes on the winter, like my version of shrimp and grits.

forecast, which includes my annual Barby..on the 7th,
and it's nothing but sunshine..! :).
I'm watering the baskets/flowers twice a day..and the
back lawn has gone brown..! :(.
The tomatoes and peppers look lovely Henny...But! As
we know, everything is so much bigger over there, and,
where you live looks so lovely...! :).

Hope the cage is just for show, hope you don't intent to
put a bird in it...! :(.
I don't like cages of any type, birds should be free to fly
were they want to...'Free as a bird'..as they say..!
Perhaps the cage would look nice with a plant in it, or
even a very large tomato...HeHe! Bless! :O).

Oh Willie, I've been hearing on the news about the extreme heat over there too. Hope is cools off a little for all of us. I'm with you on letting birds fly free. I just feel so sorry for birds in a small cage...or any animal locked in a small cage. It breaks my heart. Thank you for visiting!

Now over the rainbow bridge waiting for me to come one day , although sometimes I swear I feel his presence beside me . I miss him so much . DeleteWash and dry tomatoes.
DeleteCut away the stem and core.
Cut tomatoes into fourths or smaller (if desired)
Place on a baking sheet, skin side down.
Cover with plastic wrap and freeze.
Once frozen place in a single layer in labeled freezer bags.
Tomatoes may be frozen raw or cooked, whole, sliced, chopped,
or puréed...
Tomatoes do not need to be blanched before freezing...!

ReplyDeleteMan and beast, don't we all love to be outside enjoying summer even on the hottest days. Because I do not have to think hard to remember my 8 months of cooped up inside with bad weather. And of course, we all worry about our pets when they appear to be sick. So glad it was probably just an upset tummy for Eli. You just never know until it passes or like you said, plan to go to the vet. I think your tomatoes look just so ripe and red and juicy. I can't even grow them here at my house, the deer eat them like candy even when green. And now my 2 apple trees have been just about picked clean by grey squirrels. There is no relief from hungry mouths, lol. Lynn and Precious

Not hot here in western Md. We have a good mix of rain and sun and cool breezes.
You should not be ashamed to show your tiny garden! I've never had a garden! I always say I would not complain about the heat and humidity so I can feel righteous complaining about the cold and snow! LOL! Either way the high heat and humidity is a little hard to take! Our weather man said we are headed to the hottest week of the summer next week! Stay cool!

Sorry to hear about all your heat and humidity...your garden is putting out some beautiful veggies....never heard of pablano peppers....are they spicy? Sure glad Eli is feeling better and that you can take your walks when the weather is a bit cooler. That yellow bird cage is so cute and beautifully painted....just waiting for a canary! Whatever happened to the little wren family that you had peeping out of the birdhouse? Well, that's all for now...cool here this week in the 70's....I love that weather! Take good care! ReplyDeleteI am an outdoor kind of gal, but our intense heat had pretty much held me hostage inside for several weeks. And, it's not over yet, even though we had rain today and it was much cooler. I sure would like to get my hands on your calorie counter book. You are your daughter's mother, so I can only imagine how unique and wonderful it must be.
ReplyDeleteI am in agreement with you..the heat and Southern humidity is wreaking havoc on our Summertime fun. I do not even feel like walking my doggies, as just either too hot or too late or early when could get by with it..for both them and I. :0( ...Stay tuned..Fall will be here pretty soon..but not soon enough..being its usually October before it really cools off some here in NC. Your garden goodies look divine..love the yellow bird cage and hoping your baby stays well. Some of mine little four feel bad sometimes but in a day or so..they are back to normal. Its when they do not get back soon that we have to worry..as when my Cocker Spaniel was eating and all normal..other than sluggish. She was found to have a thyroid problem..meds from now on but happy to say she is feeling much better and like herself. Have a blessed weekend at your beautiful Farm.
ReplyDeleteI was also one who vowed not to complain about the heat but I've changed my tune. July is NOT one of my favourite months after all. Maybe not August either. That will depend on whether it finally cools off or not.

Hi Henny. Thank you for popping over & leaving a comment. I didn't know anything about those bowls, and then in one day at the Amish Flea Market I saw about 5 of them, 2 were heart shaped. Prior to that I had never seen one, and didn't even know they were a thing. I hope you find one for yourself, I was going to use it for bread as that is what they are designed for, kneading etc in colonial times, but mine ended up being for pretty. You can find new ones too. But the thrill is in the hunt isn't it.

Like you said, we are ravaged with rain, wind, and too much humidity. I can't wait for fall, though, I thought that a fall garden might be a good thing instead. I sure am hoping so! ReplyDeleteYour veggies all look great, Henny! We've been getting lots of ripe tomatoes...as a matter of fact, I just canned my first 7 quarts of spaghetti sauce today. I love knowing what's in my food and I thoroughly enjoy canning...just like my husband enjoys gardening.

Adorable garden pics. I have a birdcage hanging outside also, painted mine a light blue. Do not be ashamed of your garden, at least you planted one. With the heat here in Nashville TN this yr I am having trouble keeping the weeds out of my flower bed!! So keep on growing!
