Amazing how bright the early morning sun can be on Henny Penny Lane and still be so dark around the house...
at 7:30 am...Poppy and Eli lead the way on our morning walk.
Miss Ellie has been a little under the weather lately. She started having accidents in the house so Wednesday morning we carried her to the vet. She has a uninary tract infection...
This morning she looked so sweet on our bed...
She is on an antibiotic, pain pill, and probiotics daily so hopefully will be well soon. She sure is a sweetie pie and is all grown up now...weighs 100 lbs.! Not to worry though, Eli is still Mr. Royalty around here.
Anyhow, Got an email and picture from my sister Shelby today. Here's the story...My brother-in-law Jimmy went out to pull the tractor from under the shed and found a litter of kittens in the bucket on the tractor...

Shelby moved the kittens to a box and left them inside the shed for the mother cat to find. They have been seeing a large yellow feral cat around the barn. Two of the kittens are a beige or tan color. I've never seen that before. Aren't they adorable!
We've had terribly hot dry weather. Seems all the rain showers by pass our little spot in the county. The garden is doing fairly well, considering...
Getting tomatoes and peppers, and green beans now.
and here's this year's make-shift watering hole for the birds, lizards and frogs who live in the garden.
Still having no luck with zinnias. Can't get even one seed to sprout. I just don't understand it. Thank goodness for the few wildflowers, like the Queen Anne's Lace growing behind the little greenhouse...
Well friends...hope all of you haven't gone away. Guess I will end this mess and get ready for bed. I hope to be back real soon.

Your garden is lucky to have some shade. That probably helps with the lack of rain. I have not had luck with zinnias for a few years now, here in central Louisiana. I figured it was just my brown thumb. I do love your watering hole. Genius to me. :) Your tomatoes and bell peppers are gorgeous! I do hope Miss Ellie gets well quickly. All kitties and baby animals are cuties to me. :) You all be safe and God bless.

ReplyDeleteMiss Ellie is so pretty and her coat so fluffy and gorgeous, did she have a bath recently? I hope she is all better soon. The kitties are adorable. I love to grow zinnias from seeds, hope yours grow. My favorites are Purple Prince, tall and purple.

DeleteI had to replant my zinnia seeds three times before I finally got plants. Now they have a few buds on them and the Japanese beetles are trying to eat them like candy. What is summer. Hope Miss Ellie continues to feel better. Too bad she has to take yucky medicine. Love the baby kittens and hope they all do just fine they're so cute.
ReplyDeleteYou have a nice garden there. Beautiful peppers and tomatoes. I planted so many zinnia seeds here in Va. also and not one came up. Never had a problem with them before. Maybe the weather the way it has been, warm then cold early on had something to do with it. I purchased some small orange looking zinnias, don't know the real name of them though. I miss my zinnias. Good to hear that Eli is on the road to feeling better. He is beautiful with that white fur. He looks as sweet as he is. Happy Monday, Betsy
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Miss Ellie's UTI. Hope she feels better soon. As for the kittens, perhaps there's some Siamese in there to get that beige color. But we did have an orange tabby give birth to a long haired beige kitten once... he was unusual and didn't have the Siamese markings, but really a good looking cat. Your garden looks good... and your veggies look wonderful!

ReplyDeleteI had a lovely stand of zinnias about 2 inches high. In one night they were chewed down to nothing. I have no idea what ate them. I'm hoping they regrow.

Those kittens are adorable! Will Shelby keep them or give them away? Your garden looks so nice...and those tomatoes and peppers make my mouth water. Our growing season here in this part of WV is rather short so we do have tomatoes on the vines, but it will be a while before we are picking any red ones. I still enjoy wearing each of my aprons that you made! xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Miss Ellie isn't well, but a couple of days on her meds and she'll be back to normal. Butchy has a vet appointment tomorrow (just for shots) so I gave him a bath and it's so hot that I thought Beulah might like one too. She sure did, I asked her if she wanted a bath and she jumped right into the tub. Now, my back hurts and I'm all wet. Taking a break to catch my breath and then I plan on a long bubble bath, that should ease the back pain :)
ReplyDeleteYour garden looks amazing. We just started getting hot weather this week, and my garden is so far behind; I might have tomatoes by September. So far I haven't harvested anything but rhubarb and the truth is I gave the first batch away, but I think sometime this week I'll be able to put up a few pints. Check out my last weeks post, I made a new apron and I was thinking of you while I was sewing on it. I love your aprons, they are so pretty.

I don't know what I am doing different with the flowers. We still have plenty of bugs who eat them, though. I love the idea you had of a water basin for the little critters, I will try that! ReplyDeleteHi Henny...I'm just catching up being AWOL for awhile. Your gardens look so good, everything so beautiful. And it must be so nice already enjoying the bounty of it all. I hope Elli is feeling better by today. It's awful when our pets are down like that. Thank God it's fixable. The kittens...oh my goodness. Give your sister a hug for me for being so kind to them. I just hope mom came back. It will be a wee bit of work finding homes for them but well worth the effort. They bring such joy. Sending a hug to you, Poppy and all the critters.

I planted pink and purple zinnias down both sides of my driveway.
They get them same sun,water and fertilizer.
The right side flourished and the left didn't sprout at all!

There is nothing better than fresh garden veggies. I have to purchase mine at the stands but that is ok..grateful for Farmers. My husband is not planting now..bad legs and knees and both of us with arthritis..do not make a match(not to mention we travel too much to keep it up).. Love the kitties, too.
