Happenings around here

Things have been mighty dull in the teeny tiny sewing room lately. Mighty dull! There is a little craft show coming up November 6th and 7th. My name is now on the list of vendors.

This will be no big event. There will be only five or six vendors set up in a small beauty shop down town. Maybe, just maybe, this will be the encouragement I need to get back in the sewing room at night.

I have several dolls that need finishing, and a couple of bonnets too. A few weeks ago I managed to finish another apron...

There is a bonnet that matches this apron, half finished, like a bunch of other stuff, piled on the sewing table.

Look what I pulled out and dusted off yesterday...

Ye olde bread machine! Another gift from cousin Pat. Hey, if you are not a bread maker, like me, this is the next best thing!

The recipe for whole wheat bread in "The Bread Machine Cookbook" was the one I used and it turned out really good!

Again, not being a bread maker, I don't know if this loaf would be considered pretty or not. The taste was perfect! Warm with butter! Poppy said, "it's good"! This is from someone who never gives a compliment.

Today looks to be warmer and simply beautiful and I'm looking forward to being outside. I just can't decide what I want to do first.

Thank you, friends!

Love,
Henny

  1. It sounds like you'll be rat-a-tat-tatting in the sewing room soon!

  3. I'm there with you on the sewing. I've got sooooo much fabric accumulated, and nothing much done with it. Used to love the bread machine. I could eat half, no the whole loaf with butter while it was still warm just out of the machine. No will power. No bread here since January, I'm liking the 25 lbs of weight lost, much better than the bread:)

    1. I don't blame you! Oh if I could lose 25 pounds! I could eat the whole too, at one sitting!

    1. I didn't realize so many still use a bread maker. This loaf was the best I've made.

  6. I use the bread machine on a regular basis, its so much easier than all the effort needed to make bread and in my opinion tastes just as good. Love the dolls they are gorgeous and would be perfect to hang on a Christmas tree.

    1. Hey Jo. I'm so glad I pulled this one out of the cabinet again. I just wish I could eat all the bread and butter I want! :)

  9. Oh, your fabric is sorted and stored so nicely. You should see my shelves of material in slant back closet upstairs----what a mess!

The bread doesn't look good only because it is not a normal loaf shape, but it's the taste that really counts! Eat and enjoy.

    1. Hey Vic! I think I enjoy sorting and folding fabric (and matching colors) more than I do actually sewing. There's that OCD again. :)

  10. Those dolls are so cute. I don't have a bread machine. I make wholewheat bread by hand but wonder if I would be able to figure out how to use the bread machine! Most everyone seems to think it is easier. Is it hard to clean up after? Nancy

    1. Nancy I have always wished that I could make bread by hand. I can't make biscuits or pie crusts either. The dough just doesn't do right for me. :) Actually the bread machine comes out nice and clean after the bread is baked. It just wipes clean. I was really surprised.

  11. I use my bread machine too, the bread tastes so good. Your dress looks like a regency dress, could just picture Lizzie Bennet in it.

    1. I struggled making that dress and never quite finished it. I love Lizzie Bennet. I love Pride and Prejudice and would love to dress like Lizzie Bennet all the time. Can you imagine feeding the animals in that long dress! :)

    1. Wonder if I could make sourdough bread in the bread machine? I need to look through the book. Love you Vicki!

  14. I can make bread but very seldom do any more, just special Swedish bread for Christmas.
I love seeing all that fabric stacked up in your sewing room. Don't you hear it calling you?

    1. Swedish bread sounds good! I can see you being a homemade bread maker. Yes, that fabric calls me constantly and still I don't listen. :)

  15. I love the photo of your sewing room and the neat stacks of fabric just waiting to be made into whatever you choose. Wish I could sew but I can't. I have taken sewing classes and all that basting and pinning just discouraged me. I use my breadmaker a lot I use the 'dough' function and bake bread or form buns and bake in my regular oven.

    1. Thank you Granny Marigold! I hate all that basting and pinning too. After making so many bonnets and aprons I can do it now without basting. I would love to try using the dough function and make cinnamon buns. Thank you for telling me.

  16. You know I was given a bread machine many years ago. I'd be embarressed to tell you how long ago I received this machine from my sister! Lol! It sits in it's original box in a closet never opened! You have given me the incentive to open it and make some bread! Thanks Henny! Some warm fresh made bread with butter sounds mighty good! I love all of the things you make. Especially the dolls. They are so cute!

    1. Thank you Darlene. You should use the bread machine. I can't believe how long my machine was stored away in the cabinet. The only problem is that is smells so good and tastes so good, warm with butter, I could seriously eat the whole loaf.

  17. There is nothing in the whole world like the perfume of bread baking! And it doesn't matter a bit if it comes from a bread machine. So economical, and it's fun to experiment once you get the basic recipe down. Hope you have lots of fun with yours.

  18. I use my bread machine all the time and love the bread but didn't like that the bread came out so tall. So I now put it on the dough setting and when that is done I put it in a bread pan, let it rise and then bake it in the oven. Comes out great and a better size.
