First, thank you all for the nice comments on my last post. I feel bad for not replying to each one, but especially to those of you without blogs. Those with blogs, it's easy to visit and say thank you. Anyhow, I sure appreciate you all!
In my last post I told you that Eli is going on 11 years old. I was wrong. He will be 12 in January! We were in the vet's office with him yesterday and the chart on the door says that Mr. Eli, in human years, would be 92.
Something about this picture I really like. The early morning sunrise cast such pretty colors on the old dirt road. Eli had stopped to rest, and I was asking him if he was ok. Sort of looks like an old painting, doesn't it?
The teeny tiny garden and all the potted plants are keeping me pretty busy. Poppy says I need to put myself a bed up in the greenhouse. Humm, now that's a thought...
But look, are these pictures neat...
and this one...
This is an ice plant. My friend Karen brought me a pot full last summer and I started more pots. Oh, and while we're up at the garden, remember the old washing machine tub I use for potting soil...
and the trash can lid Poppy found lying beside the road?? Well, the lid doesn't fit tight and when it rains the soil gets wet.
Walmart had a display of plastic tablecloths for $4.38. I bought one of the large size ones, folded it in half and cut out a circle. Sewed some binding along the edge and...
Dry soil! Also found these clips at Walmart...
Oops! Wrong picture! These clips...
Making and clipping little pleats along the bottom keeps the cover on nice and tight.
and here's a little idea...
I cut several pieces of old green clothesline wire and bent them into "S" hooks. Makes hanging things easy, like my little garden basket.
So, that's about it for this time. I will leave you with a picture of little miss Violet. She turned one year old on May 25th!
She is such a sweet baby and smiles all the time!!
Thank you, dear friends!
Love, Henny
Aren't you just the clever one! I would have never thought to use the tablecloth to cover the soil container. Looks like your garden is doing well. Miss Violet is adorable.
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
You are just full of good ideas. Creative problem solving if fun and satisfying.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a precious little girl Violet is! And that first photo of you with Eli has an air of mystery and other-worldliness. It does look like a painting! Thanks for showing us how your garden is coming along, too. Blessings, Henny Penny!
ReplyDeleteMiss violet is a cutie hugging her bear. I am glad to know where I can buy those clips. I'm going to need some in a few weeks. Hopefully our Walmart has them, if not I can order. Neat way to keep the soil from getting wet..clever idea! The flowers are very pretty with a rich color. With as much rain as we have had, just keeping the yard mowed and the flower beds cleaned out has been a chore. I think we are going on almost 8 inches of rain since last Friday...thankful we live on higher ground. Happy Thursday
ReplyDeleteThat is such a beautiful photo of Eli - I would be framing that one dear Henny Penny. Your garden is looking so very pretty. Its lovely to see the flowery photos as we are in winter here. Miss Violet is adorable! Take care dear Henny xx
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love that photo of Eli!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great idea for covering the soil.
Happy Birthday to sweet Violet!

ReplyDeleteHow nice that you're back so soon. Eli is such a beautiful dog...I hope he will be with you for a long time yet. I love your greenhouse and wonderful flowers and what a great idea to sew that cover for your soil can! That should help a lot. Love that little Violet...what a cutie! Take good care Henny, God bless you and Poppy. Love you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Diane. I'm excited about getting back into blogging on a regular basis, at least once a week anyhow. I miss you and enjoy visiting through blogging. Take care and have a wonderful weekend. Love, Henny

Thank you, Granny Marigold! Oh, I am always telling Eli that I understand how he feels, my legs seem to be wearing out too. He will appreciate that hug.

Oh! And to~day is Friday the 13th...Stay lucky...! :O)
Willie, thank you! I do look forward to your comments! Yes, Friday 13th. I feel like this has been a week of Friday the 13th! Dropping things, breaking things, cleaning up messes! :) No, Walmart did not have the tablecloth in pink. I would have probably bought one. :) to match my pink wheelbarrow! Poppy says, when the pink wheelbarrow wears out can we replace it with a camo colored one!! Yuk! :)
DeleteYes! I get days much the same to....
DeleteHere's summat l found of interest.....
In Norse mythology, a dinner party of the gods was ruined by the thirteenth guest called Loki, who caused the world to be plunged into darkness. Even today, it's considered unlucky to have 13 people sitting at a dinner table, and some people pop a teddy bear in a seat to make up the number of guests up to 14!
Nice to see Violet! And your lovely colorful flowers are a delight. Imagine what it will be like for us humans when we reach 92. Bet our life will not be as pampered as Eli's and his should be pampered without a doubt. Glad to see you back with this post. We enjoy seeing how the garden is going. Lynn and Precious XX
ReplyDeleteAlways love to see a post from you, Henny. Great pics and great ideas! I take it Eli is taking a rest from the walk in the pic. And little Miss Violet is adorable. How is your rascal rabbit these days?
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness is Eli really that old? I remember when you got him he was just a little roundish ball of white fur! Hard to believe it's been that long! I love the tip about the table cloth. I keep the compost that I make in a big garbage can which does have a hinged lid. Several years ago somehow water got in and it was wet all the way down to the bottom. So hard to get it out all wet and sticking together. Now I just have a piece of old tarp laying over the lid weighted down with some stones to keep it from blowing off. It works but doesn't look too classy. Yours looks so nice and neat! Violet is as pretty as her name!
ReplyDeleteHey Victoria. I've thought about you a lot lately, you and your beautiful yard, gardens, and fence! I used a piece of an old tarp for the potting soil until it finally rotted. If I remove three of the clips the tablecloth comes off and goes back on easily. Not too much trouble. So good to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteViolet is so cute.

Sleeping in a greenhouse might be a good idea...I still think about adding a daybed to my screened porch to sleep.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your visit with us today! I have a granddaughter named Violet.
Oh my look how Violet has grown, she is a beauty. Good ole Eli what a good boy, love that photo of you and him!
