How can there possibly be so much to do on a teeny tiny farm? Whatever would I do with a real farm!
Anyhow, my days are full. Did you know a fireplace screen makes a great drying rack for green beans...
I wasted half a day trying to build a drying rack with old screen wire then happened to notice the fireplace screen and it worked!
Funny, when I stood the screen up against the tree, Smokey thought it was playtime...all for him.
Silly kitty! The beans frightened him so he found another place near by to sun...
Can you tell I haven't started raking leaves yet? All these little willow oak leaves will be raked up and put on the garden, hopefully, if I remain able. I am bound and determined to improve conditions in the teeny tiny garden before next year. The garden was awful this summer. Simply awful!
Oh, I finally got around to adding a little more Fall decor to the old cupboard...
I stopped by Goodwill on my way to line dancing last week and found the pitcher. Andee sent me the cute little welcome mat for my birthday...
Oh, and those green beans drying in the sun...well I've never had any beans worth drying and saving until now. These are old timey heirloom half runner beans...seeds passed down over the years by my Mother's family. Thanks to Shelby for asking around and sure enough a cousin had a bag full stored in her freezer. Shelby and Jimmy grew a couple of long rows of these delicious beans...plenty to eat and plenty to save for seed. Shelby gave me enough beans to plant a couple of rows too.
By the way, what is your favorite color of the Fall mums? Oh, I love them all! But if I had to pick just one, it would be the deep reds. My son-in-law Todd brought this pretty mum to me for my birthday...
Good grief! I am so embarrassed. My last post has a misspelled word...right up there big as day in the title. That was supposed to be "Community" rock pile.
Okay, I could go on and on. There are spiders and webs and animals to talk about...I need to post more often.
Thank you friends...if you are still here.
Love, Henny
Great idea for drying the beans. I love your porch.
ReplyDeletePerfect solution for drying your beans! I love Smokey, she looks so much like our Nelly (r.i.p.). I love how quaint your little garden setting is, too! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteI love fall mums and haven't gotten any yet! You have such a pretty place! I love seeing your photos!
ReplyDeleteMy Virginia Creeper is covered in spider webs...
ReplyDeleteAnd spiders of course, l'm amazed at the skill
they have in building such 'BIG' and wonderful
webs...One is three feet across the dining room
window...amazing..!
Wonder if they can get the internet on them! :).
And Smokey...Look at him..Bless!x He's lovely...
He probably thought the beans looked old...and
thought..'they must be 'has~beans' HeHe! :).
I had a seventy~five year old apple last week.....
Yes! 75yrs old....It was a Granny Smith...! HaHa! :).
Enough of the jokes Willie..! :O).
My Virginia Creeper leaves are just starting to
turn..the ones out front seem to turn and fall before
the ones out back...probably because the sun does'nt
reach the front till gone three..(3)...
I do love my Virginia Creeper...all the colours, especially
Autumn...Lovely!
Think we ALL notice the misspelling of "Community".....
I put it down to over work and stress Henny...HeHe!
Any excuse..will do...I'm much the same, though l keep
busy, always summat to do somewhere...!
I'm just off for a late lunch, belly~pork stew l made last
Sunday, and still some left, full of meat and various veg...
I'll keep the pan topped up now for the rest of the winter!

I love your jokes Willie! Virginia Creeper vines are pretty. I think some grow willd around here. I'll have to check it out. I appreciate your comment.
DeleteMums are everywhere here. All over on porches, steps and railings. Each and every one is just beautiful. Mandy always has one or two on her porch. She gets them at Costco and they are always beautiful. Smokey is such a beautiful cat and looks quite playful. Living on your little farm has to be wonderful for the furry members of your family. Seeing the photos of your porch always makes me wish I had one. I need to do something to make our little balcony more welcoming.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a lovely weekend, full of fun and beauty. Big hugs and kisses to Ellie and Eli.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
I do love your fall decor, Henny! And I had no idea that you could simply dry beans to preserve them. Guess we learn something new every day. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just like a cat---everything must surely be for them. I like the mat and matching flag with Fall cat on them. So cute.
ReplyDeleteHeirloom bean seeds that have been passed along in your Mom's family are a real treasure. So many heirloom vegetable seeds are basically lost forever ( unless thoughtful people have saved them in the freezer or other ways.)
It's always a treat to find that you've done a post. Hopefully as winter sets in you'll have more time.
Granny M ( who Blogger still insists is anonymous. Grrr.)
Happy belated birthday. We haven't started raking either. But most of the leaves are still on the trees-seems like it's later than ever.
ReplyDeleteLovely seeing Smokey having a hay day outside. And how nice to get back to having beans that are really a handme down from family! Hope Randall is enjoying autumn. So far the wind and the mowers have kept my leaves at bay. But any day it'll be up to me to move many more, lol.
ReplyDeleteI love your pics, Henny... especially Smokey, but would love to see more of Randall Rabbit. He's still around, yes?
ReplyDeletemy favorite color of the mums too. Over the years I've tried to get them to come back, with no luck. I didn't purchase any this year, but they are lovely and vibrant. Faith CrochetbytheSeaEst2008
ReplyDeleteHello Henny Penny. Your fall display is so pretty. Love the little pitcher that you found at GoodWill. I hope your family is well. Think of you often and still am wearing my beautiful aprons from when you made them and sold them. Do you still do that?
ReplyDeleteYour cupboard is lovely.
ReplyDeleteYes, my days are busy but not too busy. Always something to do but that is better than not having anything to do.
Always pleased when I see a post update by you. :)
Forgot to say I like all the mum colors too but like the yellow ones best.
ReplyDeleteSmokey loves the leaves. :-D
ReplyDeleteYou can probably dry other veggies like onions there, too. :-)
Reds and oranges are my favorites.
You all be safe and God bless.

ReplyDeleteLook at your adorable stretchy kitty! He's so sweet. And the mat and flag are so so cute. Must look for a mat like that :) Your leaves are lovely -- don't worry about them. If you rake them up, more will just fall, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteHey Mama! Everything is so pretty. I would love to try planting like maybe THREE green bean seeds next year. 😂 You know my garden is tiny. I love you and miss you!!
ReplyDeleteYour gur
What a surprise! You can have a whole handful of beans to plant. :) Love you and miss you.

DeleteWhat a clever use for a fireplace screen! I'll have to keep my out out when I visit thrift stores.
ReplyDeleteI always love to see your seasonal decorating. Every year I say I'm going to do that too, but the season passes and my decor remains the same.
Great idea to use the fireplace screen as a drying rack! Cats are so silly when it comes to someplace new to try out!Your old cupboard looks beautiful with the fall decorations! Have a good week my friend!
ReplyDeleteGreat Fall Post..kitty is so precious. Love your pleasant posts. Have a blessed weekend. Happy Fall and Happy Birthday...great gifts..
ReplyDeleteThank you ChiChi Mum. Hope you are having a nice weekend.
DeletePretty rug and flag too! Glad you are still dancing!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great drying rack dear Henny!! I love all your autumn touches & the flag & mat are just such a perfect gift for you. Have a lovely week dear Henny Penny x0x
ReplyDeleteHi Henny! Your patch looks lovely! Oh, I want to smooch that gray kitty! Isn't it funny that everyone has the same amount of hours in the day but some of us are lazier than YOU! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGardens have ups and downs. Next year, right?
We had a terrible teeny garden this year. The only things that made half way decent were the snap beans. My sister in law in Powhatan Va. has bountiful garden every year, this year, not enough tomatoes to make a decent canning put away for winter. I was beginning to wonder if the air was being sprayed, things were so bad everywhere. I love your vintage cabinet and would love to find one like it for my porch. I love your flag. Those mums are just so pretty, the deep red and vivid yellow are my favorites. I put mine in the ground and they come back every year. I envy you being able to line dance. My other knee is not so great and I really don't want another TKR, I wear a knee support mostly and it helps. Happy Fall, Betsy
ReplyDeleteGood day Henny! I am tardy to reply to your blog as I have been ill, but hopefully mending up! Its been a beautiful fall this year, but absolutely not one thing grew in my garden but the tomatoes. Just don't know, I was crushed a little but there is a winter garden hopefully. The reddish purply mums are my favorite too, but I love any flower! I really enjoy seeing those drying heirloom beans, what a nice treat! Keep posting, post more often, I'd love to keep up with you! Its really warm here for the time of year, but we will pay for it soon enough I guess. Love Terry
ReplyDeleteOur garden likewise friend did not do well...summer here was just too dry. So glad you were able to get those heirloom runner beans. Some of those old favorites are just so hard to find. Your fall decorations look lovely. Thanks too for stopping by and visiting me. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love the dark red/cranberry mums...I just wish I could keep them alive and pretty. I have terrible luck with porch plants. Enjoy those beans...we are still picking peppers here.
ReplyDeleteGreen beans. I am glad they were not worms! 😂
ReplyDeleteI like your flower pitcher. Very nice.
