Should we women wear clothes designed for our age, or should we wear clothes that we love and feel good in?
Both my daughters tell me, mom, wear what you want to wear, wear what makes you happy. Well, I've always worn jeans and I have always loved boots...here's a little bit of me...
and not only my love for cowboy boots, my love for cowboy hats. Well, I have always, always, loved Western wear. In fact, over a year ago, Andee and I were in Tractor Supply Store and I found the the cowboy hat I had been looking for so I tried it on. "Mom", Andee said, "you've got to buy it".
Poppy snapped a picture of me. I despise pictures of myself especially like here in the old raggedy tee shirt, but it's my cowboy hat...
Look, a few years back, when I was into having yard sales at the local flea market, my friend Nellie stopped by and talked me into selling her my black cowboy hat, for $5.00! I regretted it as soon as she 'happily' drove away.
Have I told you how much fun those Line Dancing classes are? Oh my gosh, friends! It is the most fun thing I've done in 30 years. I believe it was last May when Carla and I started the classes. I have missed being there only one Tuesday and believe me, I struggled to learn those dances. My brain and my feet just couldn't get together, then one Tuesday, it clicked!
Wonder if it's okay to post a picture taken from Amazon?? It's a shirt I want. Well, here it is... (maybe I won't get arrested and thrown in jail)
isn't it beautiful! why, it's the most beautiful shirt I've ever seen, and that's not all. These are the boots I want...
Now, I realize this shirt and these boots are designed for the younger set but why can't I wear them? I mean, if the shoe fits? (is this a good place to use that little saying? :) At the risk of getting my feelings hurt, what do you think?
Guess I should mention the weather while trying to decide whether or not to publish this.
Today has been cold and windy and has rained non stop... "It ain't a fit night out for man or beast", W. C. Fields
Better check in the living room where Poppy is watching the Super Bowl. Guess I'm missing all the action!
Love, Henny
Here I am back, doing a little update to this post...a picture I wanted to post of Poppy back in the late 1970s. Take a look at this cowboy hat he wore back in our dating days...
Buy them and wear them. They will look beautiful on you!
ReplyDeleteTake Care,
Kaye
Thank you Kaye. I appreciate that.
DeleteWear what you want! The boots and shirt are cute and will look great on you. Don’t ask “Is this age appropriate?” Ask “Does it make me feel good to wear this?”
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why you don't like pictures you look gorgeous in your cowboy hat. Very pretty woman. Buy what you want and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Judy!
DeleteWell have fun with the shirt and cowboy hat. Keep on line dancing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red. I hope to. :)
DeleteThank you Red. I hope to. :)
DeleteOh definitely keep wearing those boots and hat. Your dance steps are not only enjoyable but great exercise. Hilltop Post
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Thank you Mary
DeleteOh I'm so glad that you're having a ball with those line dancing classes. I would love them too! Good for you. Now I think you should get whatever you want to wear, if it makes you happy. That shirt and those boots are totally cool! I hope you will be able to get both! I'm sure you'll look great in them. Oh and I love your cowboy hat too. Hope your weather gets nicer soon. God bless you and Poppy. Love ya!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane! Hope I can handle totally cool. :) Love you!
DeleteThe questions must be asked(!) Who decides what "dressing our age" means? The clothing police? Clothing designers don't know squat about designing clothes that actually fit, so how can they know what's age appropriate? If it means not having my butt hanging out because the style is too skimpy, then yeah, I'll dress my age. But, honestly, I can't say I care for the styles offered for any of the ages, so I tend to do my own thing anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat top and those boots are PERFECT for you! Go for it!
Oh Leigh, that is so true. I rarely find anything in the stores these days that I can wear. What happened to good old cotton fabrics? Thank you!
DeleteHaHa! Great post..! Made me laugh...! :).
ReplyDeleteOf course your daughters are quite right.....
~~wear what you want to wear, wear what
makes you happy~~
Personally l don't wear jeans..l have a pair in
the wardrobe, l bought years ago, worn only
once l'm afraid..I always wear Cargos, both
long and short, and pink of course..
But, not jeans...I wear cloths that are loud,
'in yer face' and very colourful, mostly pink
of course...
"My cloths are the best there are, the best
there is..and the best they ever will be".
HeHe! Much like the owner..yours truly....! :).
So yes..! Wear clothes that you love and feel
good in.....
✨💛✨💛✨💛✨💛✨💛✨💛✨💛✨
PS...
Henny..sending you a photo of a 'pink' cowboy
hat l've just bought...not to wear...just to pose
in...around my neck, hanging down at the back! :).
Oh Willie, most of my posts make you laugh, and you always bring a smile to my face. Thank you. That pink cowboy hat is amazing! Prettiest pink ever! Wouldn't it look pretty with the shirt I want??
DeleteI think it would look pretty with anything..!
DeleteAs l always say.."If you wanna get ahead
get a hat"...! Bless...! :).
Wear What You Want To!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm 71 and I still wear jeans! Wore my last pair of boots out years ago now I wear Sketchers. Comfortable...
And that hat was super popular in the '70s...even I had one. Hubby and I loved the Cotton Eyed Joe...we had a blast.
hugs
Donna
Thank you Donna. My husband pointed out that I posted the wrong picture of him in his special cowboy hat. I told him I would do another post later. His other rust colored felt hat was amazing.
DeleteYou should have been a Texan from the look of your hat, lol. Love the fancy boots. I used to be a jeans and cowboy boot girl in my young long ago days. Now is it casual long trousers in winter and shorts in summer. I do miss fancy blouses though. Where can you find anything but pull over tops? Keep on dancing, you'll stay young at heart and body. Poppy won't recognize you with new country duds on!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lynn! I would love to be a Texan. :) If I do get those fancy duds, I may not have the nerve to wear them. :)
DeleteI say wear what you want and what makes you comfortable and feel good! I love the pic of you in the cowboy hat! You have a beautiful smile! Love the shirt and the boots on Amazon! That is a fancy cowboy hat that Poppy is wearing in that picture! And the hair, pure 1970's!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette! You're right, pure 1970s! I should do a post on Poppy in the 1970s. :)
DeleteI'm in my late 70's and have always worn jeans my whole life. Let's face it, they're comfortable. I do like boots, and wore them when I was in college in Animal Science, but did love them. Here in Texas, you certainly can wear them anytime. I like the shirt very much... but the V-neck is a bit low for me. I like the boots too, mine were that color, but plain - no decoration. Maybe I don't know what 'older' women 'should' wear... but as long as it's clean, neat, and comfortable, I'm for it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Rian. I am a little worried about the low V-neck too. Absolutely, if it's clean, neat, and comfortable.
DeleteYou look great in that hat! I wear jeans a lot too, no boots for me though.
ReplyDeleteLove the pic of Poppy!
Mari, thank you very much!
DeleteClean, neat, and comfortable does a great job of summing up what we should wear. I think those gorgeous cowboy boots are meant for you!!! GM
ReplyDeleteGM, thank you. I agree with you about what we should wear. Hope I can wear those boots.
DeleteI say wear whatever you want and have fun. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Happyone! I appreciate that.
DeleteYour daughters are absolutely right. If it's comfortable and you like it, wear it, no need to hum and haw. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's right! Thank you Bill!
DeleteIf you can were those boots and dance in them, then, WOW!, yes, by all means, get those boots. And the shirt too.
ReplyDeleteOh, thank you Linda. That's the main thing! Can I wear them and dance in them. :)
DeleteYou should definitely get those boots. I know just how you feel about them. I have, for the longest time, wanted a pair of red cowboy boots. I wear a ridiculously sized shoe so any cowboy boots, red or otherwise, for me would have to be custom made and cost a fortune! I think people ought to wear clothes that they like and feel comfortable in regardless of their age. What other people think of them is beside the point!
ReplyDeleteOh Victoria, red cowboy boots are beautiful! Hope you do get a pair. Sure appreciate what you said. I'm always worring what people might think when they see me, but you know, just about anything and everything seems to be in style right now and with some of the outfits I see in out in public, well, guess those of us who are a little modest shouldn't worry too much. :)
ReplyDeleteGood morning Henny! I am so proud of you for going out and going to the line dancing class! I wish I could go with you, I never could learn. Definitely think you need the boots and the shirt! Western wear is ageless, just look at the Yellowstone TV series! A literal craze for everyone. Cool picture of poppy! You are beautiful, Henny, just get Lynn to come down and go boot shopping for a day. Can't wait for spring, I have one daffodil blooming in my yard for all its worth, so hope you are seeing some too! Good to know that you are out dancing a little bit! Love Terry
ReplyDeleteI absolutely think you should buy and wear whatever clothes make you happy! I love that shirt. Cowboy boots are another story though. I’m more of a barefoot girl! You look great in your hat. It’s perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteI love your style Henny! Wear the boots, and get that shirt. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like western wear too. And I have a story like yours, but my story is about my cowboy boots. I went and got rid of them long ago, and I kicked myself for doing so.
Happy Valentine's Day,
Carla
You will look lovely in the new shirt and boots!
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to be happy in your own skin! I think that if we all dressed and looked alike, this would be a very strange world. Love the picture of you in the cowboy hat, it is sure "purty" on you! Hope you are having a wonderful Valentine's Day! Blessings to you :)
ReplyDeleteHi Henny- it is always nice to treat ourselves with something special- hope you can obtain the Shirt and Boots too.
ReplyDeleteOh please do wear what you love! That's exactly how I dress-wearing what I love and feel good in.
ReplyDeleteI'd say, wear what you want! I always wear what I like and what I feel comfortable in, and cannot see why age should make any difference. Who makes up all these "rules" anyway?
ReplyDeleteP.S. I love those boots you want to get :)
I say wear what you want! I am probably quite a bit older than you and it has been quite a while since I have been in anything but jeans. The past 3 or 4 yrs that means even in summer.
ReplyDeleteI love your style. I think finding what you like and look best in is what counts. My husband loves cowboy boots. So a few years ago I bought a beautiful pair for myself. But for some reason, I could barely walk in them, so I returned them. I've been reviewing my clothes and trying to update them for a 65 year old woman (me!). Mostly because I've gained weight. I hope to lose it, so then I'll reconsider what I wear. On a different note, I like all your stash of animal/bird food! I just bought a large bag of birdseed. Love to watch the birds. andrea
ReplyDeleteOkay you ask for it:
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that if it suits your personality and it is comfortable to you, wear it. Now, on the other hand I don't think that way about clothes people feel comfortable in, that show cleavage, butt cracks, etc. Some might say I have a double standard, but I appreciate modesty.
I have a friend who is always bringing up the conversation of older women and long hair, which she is against. I just keep my mouth shut (while feeling it's aimed at me) . I like her and don't want it to be a stumbling block between us, but I think she needs to wear her hair short and comfortable for her and let others do the same (what is comfortable to them). What is dressing for our age anyway . . . as long as we are comfortable in your appearance and we are not showing off body parts that should be kept for our husbands eyes only, why should it concern others.
Now, I have watched and experienced some of the "so called Wal-Mart shoppers" and I am of the opinion that swimwear should be for the beach or pool and pajamas for bedtime and lounging inside the house, not for shopping trips to town.
With all that said, buy the shirt, buy the boots and wear what fit your personality, you are not Suzie down the street that dresses in elastic waist poly pants and bagging tee's that tell the world that she's a cat lover (which is absolutely okay for Suzie), you're you. Cowgirl/Farmgirl at heart, wife, mother, lover of all things of nature, gardener, animal lover and kind hearted soul. Enjoy who you are and be comfortable doing it.
Wow! I guess this was a question that stirred my soul, LOL
Here! Here! Well said...Good for you...!
DeleteTotally agree...100%
Just popped over and had a peek at your
Blog....HeHe! Won't follow...you have'nt got
a cat...perhaps you should get one..or even
two...Bless! :).
I had to pop over here to read you answer too. :) I agree with you!!!
DeleteI like the shirt and you should order it! The prettiest part of the boots won't show unless you wear a skirt! But if you want them then get them. WE are too old to deny ourselves anything we want to wear:) Have fun line dancing....years ago I used to do that with the girls in our living room it was great fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree with your daughters - wear what you like...you have earned that right! As for the pic of Poppy - my he was certainly a handsome cowboy! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteAlways wear what makes you feel good. Love the boots and shirt. I have a hard time getting shirts to fit, I have to try them on first. Wish they had line dancing here...
