A little building, a little cleaning, a little sad

We walked Eli and Ellie up the path to the paved road. I picked a few spindly wildflowers...

Our latest project has been putting up new wire on our teeny tiny front porch.

Way back, seven years ago when Eli was just a puppy, I had the bright idea of tacking garden fencing around the little porch. That way I could work outside and watch Eli too...

We enjoyed the little fenced-in porch so much that now, seven years later, Poppy decided it was time to give it a little more of a professional look. We cut and nailed 2 x 4s along the edge, painted them brown, and installed the nice new fencing.  Tomorrow I plan to paint the little half screen door and also get the porch floor painted soon.

So, while in the cleaning mood, I polished the old cupboard then washed all the old pots and pans and rearranged it all...

I absolutely love this old cupboard and will always be grateful to cousin Pat and her husband Mike for putting it in my care.

Have I ever shown you both ends of the teeny tiny front porch? Why it's so small I can't back far enough away to get a full picture of the old cupboard. But here's each end of the porch...

Oops, pardon the dirty old boots. I've put many a mile on that pair parked in the back.

I suppose this little porch is just right for Poppy and me and the dogs.

Got a bit of news I've been meaning to share with you. Just hated to mention it, you see, it makes me a bit sad...

All our sweet bunny rabbits have gone to live on a big hay farm just a few miles from here.

So strange how it all worked out. For some time now I've been trying to find homes for a few of the rabbits. Anyhow, Poppy was out at Mr. Murphy's Hay Farm buying feed and casually commented that I needed to get rid of some rabbits. Mr. Murphy spoke up and asked, "what kind of rabbits does she have? I'll take them all!" Said he used to have rabbits and still had a big lot with a rabbit house for them to go in.

I spoke with Mr. Murphy on the phone and he assured me these rabbits would have a good home. Just recently he told us that his granddaughter loves the rabbits and when she visits says, "Grandpa, give me some food. I need to go feed the bunnies".

I do know that Mr. Murphy loves animals. He used to have sheep and now has cows. He also has kitty cats and a big friendly dog that greets all the customers, and...he had a sweet little donkey that hung around near the store. Oh, wait! You may remember my post several years ago about Mr. Murphy's bull...

He was shy at first and wouldn't come out to see us...yeah right!

and this is Mr. Murphy's store where you drive thru to pick up hay or feed...

I sure miss my bunnies, every one of them. Glad to know they are all together and have a good home.

Guess that's about it for now. Looking at Smokey makes me sleepy...

I just may go curl up with him. This has been a busy week. Appreciate your stopping by...and always appreciate seeing a new follower. Thank you!

Love,

Henny

  1. I'm sorry Henny, I know you miss your sweet bunnies but it does sound like they have a good home. I'm sure they love having a little girl come out to play with them. I like how you are fixing up your porch. When you are done maybe you can show us some pictures. Smokey sure does look comfy there sleeping so soundly! You know I always said if you need to relax just watch a sleeping cat. Have a great weekend Henny!

    1. Oh Bonnie, I loved them all but hated most of all to let Chief, Son of Bun go. He was adorable. I felt like he would be happier with his mom and dad than here alone with me. Thank you for your sweet comment.

    1. Well me too Willie. Old old old, that's me. I just hope to keep going. Mr. Smokey hardly does have a care in this world. Poppy says I have spoiled him rotten...but he is such a big lovable kitty. Thank you for visiting.

  6. The bunnies will give you an excuse to go to the Hay Store and visit them. And your porch is just the perfect size for
a bit a comfy furniture and a good sit outside. It looks just homey and inviting. Of course, how can I not enjoy seeing
Smokey taking a break from all that fence building and cabinet cleaning, lol. Lynn and Precious

  8. Hello! New reader here. Found you through another blog.

Love your front porch and that hutch! I'm a hutch fanatic, myself. I can see why you would be thankful for that one.

Sorry you lost your bunnies, but it does sound like a nice new home for them. Hopefully, you can visit them from time to time. We used to keep rabbits as pets. Started with one female I took from a girl I worked with who was gifted it by her boyfriend. She couldn't care for it so brought it to work to give away. Then got a freebie bunny in the Walmart parking lot one Easter (turned out to be male), and whoops, along came 6 babies! That was the end though. Had the males neutered and everybody was happy.

Sorry to write a blog post for my first comment. Last time it should happen. Happy Friday!

    1. Oh Kim, thank you so much! I've enjoyed every word of your comment. I miss my rabbits so much. Mine were pets too. I started with just one rabbit too. When I saw this person pick up the little grey bunny by his ears, I knew I had to rescue it. She sold it to me for five dollars. Your bunny story is so cute. Thank you for visiting and for commenting. I will be over to visit.

  10. I lived in two little log cabins on an island way up near Canada once. The two cabins had a homemade connecting enclosed breezeway between them and they were only about six feet apart. Our upper cabin where we mainly lived (both cabins being tiny tiny tiny) had a little porch and we did the same thing you did! We enclosed it with sheep fencing. And our dogs could be safe up there. Later we added a ramp and more fencing right below the porch and they could go out and run in the enclosure without us having to worry. And we had bunnies, bunnies, bunnies. I am so glad your bunnies have that new place to live on Mr. Murphy's farm. I know you miss them but maybe it's balm to your heart that they are together and not being raised as meat pen. I love the old cupboard you have. It is decorated so cute, the little candle adds a LOT!

    1. The two little log cabins connected with a breezeway sounds wonderful and how neat that your's was fenced-in too. I remember my grandma's old brown house. The kitchen was separate from the main house. I just love little log homes. I love the old way of life. Thank you. Sure enjoyed your comment.

That is a great old cupboard and love all the thing you've put on it.

  16. What an absolutely wonderful place to sit & drink tea & ponder the world dear Henny Penny - I should love to sit on your porch with you. I adore that photo of the bull peeking around the corner - he certainly does look shy. Bless.

  17. I love the flowers you picked, Henny.....they look so pretty on your porch, which I really like too. I know you really loved those bunnies...but at least they're with another family that loves animals too. Hug Eli and Ellie and Smokey and all the rest for me!

  21. Your porch looks so inviting. I can see you spending many hours sitting out there resting from all your hard work. Now you'll just have to go along when Poppy buys feed . . . so you can visit your rabbits)

  22. What a sweet porch you have. The rocking chairs look so inviting - they are not something that you see much of here. I love the idea of sitting and rocking and relaxing at the end of a day, watching nature go about its business and looking for the first stars to appear in the sky.
    Have a happy week :)

  23. Hi Henny :) I don't think your porch looks tiny at all, it looks super cozy! I love what you've done with it. Sad to see the bunnies go...see, that's my problem, I can't let any animal that has been part of this family go...that's why I ended up with 6 pets...can't go near a shelter anymore either lol...

  24. Hello! I'm a bit (lot) late in commenting here and I'm sorry. My iPad won't let me comment, I have to do it on my laptop and I didn't take that on my cross country trip. We're home and the house is a disaster of boxes, totes and furniture but it will soon all be tucked away and life will again calm down.
I love your porch and would be sitting on it right now if I could. A cold glass of lemonade or ice tea as we rocked and talked about life.
I'm sorry about your bunnies as I know how much you love them. I understand being afraid to visit because it would bring all of the emotions back. I'm so happy they have a wonderful new home with children too!
Blessings and lots of love and kisses to Eli and Ellie.
    Betsy
