More good luck, hopefully!

Hey dear friends,

Well, I'm back, and intend to stay back!

What's the weather like where you are? Where did May go? I made a useless trip to Lowes in Henderson this morning for a few gardening things and almost froze to death. This weather!  47 degrees, raining, and windy. The cashier in Lowes garden center was bundled up in a coat and had a little space heater running full blast.

Oh, about the picture of the rough dry hand and the four-leaf clover...I always wondered if the big type clover ever grew one with four leaves...and now I know. Found this one in the teeny tiny garden. I sure did!

As for the dry rough hands...

it's the dirt in the teeny tiny garden. But that's okay, plants are beginning to grow.

Looks like I'm cutting the rows off too short on this end. Shoot, there's room for more beans and peppers in these two rows. I'll fix that tomorrow, Lord willing.

Back to Lowes...they were out of wooden tomato stakes, the main item I went for, and no eggplant! Guess I can cut a few tree saplings from around the pond to use for stakes.

Can't go without showing you Eli and Ellie...

Oh Ellie is a big sweetie pie just like Eli. She is so smart and is already housebroken. Like Eli, Ellie responds to kind words and telling her what a good girl she is.

This is how they both looked after chasing each other round and round the living room furniture three or four times. ..in this teeny tiny house. At first, I thought it was thundering! You should have been here!

Oh, just one more thing. There are lots of big poplar trees out here. Aren't the blooms unusual...

Such wild colors. Can't resist picking them up when the wind blows them off the tree.

Well, thanks for being here, for putting up with me, for being my friend.

Love,
Henny

PS...The kitty cats are fine too and send their love.

  4. You are one lucky lady always finding four leaf clovers! Those pictures of Eli and Ellie are so sweet. I wish I could hug them both! Does Ellie have a teddy bear too? I get such a kick out of Eli with his teddy. Your garden looks great Henny and I know it will reward you for your work. You asked about the weather here - it's cold and wet just like yours. It is more like Fall than Spring!

  6. Wonderful seeing veggie seed sprouting. You'll have plenty to harvest later on.
We had frost May 12 morn, and this morn it is 45. But I think our cold is about over.
The dogs look comfy together and that is good news on all counts. Maybe no cats
in the photos due to the thundering of huge paws.

  7. Hi Henny- Hope you can find some Eggplant to grow- I just love Eggplant fried and in a spagetti casserole. It is cold here too - we're in Autumn and it feels like Winter- we're rugged up already expecting Winter soon. Best Wishes. KEV.

  9. We are just starting to get some warmer weather now, after a chunk of cold weather. I haven't planted a single thing in the garden yet. Looking at the picture with the dogs, I wonder, where do you get to sit? Ha ha. -Jenn

  10. We broke 60 today, maybe I can leave my Sunflowers out pretty soon. It was down right cold here too, my plants are yearning to go and grow outside. Ellie & Eli adorable as usual. That poplar, looks like the tulip tree we just had cut down. The flowers look familiar. Out in a large wooded area this tree would be fine, to big for our yard. The stump was over 10" across. We have lots of sunshine now.

  11. Cold here. Lows in the upper 30's last night and the night before. The days do get up in the 60's which I guess I should be thankful for. I still haven't put out seeds that a can be just scattered on the ground in the spring. Maybe next week? No cicadas hatching out yet, it's just too chilly for them to appear.

The flowers of those Tulip Poplars are very odd looking. They are the state tree of Indiana. I think we also have a state bug (or insect), and that just seems stupid. Those guys up in Indianapolis obviously don't have enough stuff to keep them busy!

  12. Hi,
We are finally warming up here! Goodness, we had 25 for a low, I had to bring all my plants I had in my greenhouse (it is not heated) into the house. It was a jungle on the floor. Ha!
I am visiting the nursery for a few items Friday, I hope I can find everything.
    Love, Carla

  14. Gosh Henny, you sure are good at finding 4 leaf clovers! I've never even found one! Looks like your garden is starting to grow. and aren't the blossoms from those trees interesting and colorful! Love seeing your two pups...so darn cute and tired out from chasing each other around. How is Eli liking her these days? :) Always good to see your blog back and active!!!

  15. What unusual blooms your Poplar trees have. I've never heard of such. Obviously our Canadian Poplars don't have them. I'll bet they smell lovely too.
Both Eli and Elli sleeping in the livingroom looks so cozy. Nice to hear that Ellie is already housebroken. Loads of fun for both of you.

  16. Your poplar tree flowers were a surprise. Our poplars do not have big flowers like that.

  18. Are those trees also called tulip trees or tulip poplars? They certainly are beautiful. Love seeing your 4-leaf clover! And your beautiful doggies! P.S. My hands are pretty rough too. Just shows we use 'em!

  19. I am so behind in commenting. This week has been so busy with licensing the car, getting our drivers licenses and various other necessities while Dennis is here.
Love those sweet puppies of yours. Everytime I see them I think we should think about another dog, but we're just not ready yet.
Take care my friend and enjoy your garden.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  22. I hope the weather has warmed up by now. We are having July weather the last two days. It will change, though. No doubt. Looks like things are growing well for you. You are way ahead of me. I haven't even started the veggie garden. It still needs to be tilled. I'm having fun with my potted plants though and anxious to get them in the ground. Eli and Ellie are so adorable together. She must be so happy to be part of your family. On a sad note we lost our grand-dog Forrest two weeks ago. He had cancer. We were heartbroken. My daughter had him for nine years after finding him as a stray. He was a lucky boy to get a good home like that. She will be awhile grieving. I hope all is well with you, Poppy and all the furry and feathered ones. I'd better get myself in gear and get a post up this wknd. Hugs to everyone xo

  23. Those poplar blooms remind me of the wild saucer magnolias somehow! Amazing blossoms. Eli and Ellie are so beautiful. Ellie is growing like a weed! I have NEVER seen such a large four-leaf clover. Extra lucky!
