A little from Henny Penny Lane

Dear friends,

Have you visited my playhouse lately?
Why, I have a new broom you haven't seen and two new pillows for the old lawn chairs we had planned to carry to the dump.

The two old chairs stacked together make a neat little place to cool off after working in the garden.
and the little side table, well, my neighbor Ann gave me the little metal base and the granite top came from the Scrap Exchange.

I've been needing a playhouse broom because of the tree we left standing.

You see, it is a holly tree. Holly trees are much too beautiful to chop down, so the playhouse floor was built around the trunk of the tree. See it in the picture?

Only problem with holly trees...in early spring when the other trees are turning green and beautiful, the holly tree's leaves are turning yellow and falling off. Holly leaves are definitely no fun to walk on.

You are probably thinking, oh no, not more yard pictures...

but, I do have a few. It simply amazes me to look up at how the snowball bush towers above the house and seems to bloom more beautifully every year. We can thank Poppy for that. He bought the bush many years ago and it was he who planted it where it is today.

Yesterday, I did bring out the old yellow push mower, filled it with gas, pulled the cord twice and it started! So mowing has begun for me. Trouble is, thanks to my landscaping...

it's a lot like mowing in a corn maze. I mow sections at a time...pushing and pulling the mower over humps and stumps, footbridges and paths, why, I am always hitting a tree root and the mower motor grinds to a stop which scares me half to death.

The yellow water iris have started to bloom...

These are not the best pictures. I just thought the reflection in the pond was pretty.

I'll be back to show you the iris blooming all around the pond, and more of the teeny tiny garden that I've been working on. I must say, the plants right now are teeny tiny too.

Appreciate you all so much...and a special thank you to Shug, a new follower.

Love,
Henny

  2. Hi Henny, I love your little playhouse. All your spring blooms are just beautiful. I had a snowball bush at my last house and just loved it. The reflection in the pond is quite interesting. The yellow water iris is so pretty, it will be a while before ours bloom but I'm looking forward to it.

  4. I love your pictures...whether they be from inside the house or ones you've taken outside to share the beauty of your lawn with us. I love that snowball bush. My grandma had one at the end of the front porch. It was her pride and joy. Hugs to you, my sweet friend.

  5. I don't think I've ever seen such a big Snowball bush. It's amazing! Your playhouse keeps getting better all the time but I sure understand why you wouldn't want to be stepping on Holly leaves. OUCH!!
I love the reflection of the trees in the water. So pretty.
Have a great week ( well, rest of the week).

  9. First of all....Wow! Goes without say...amazing
photos, yet again..All so lovely and colourful,
but still no body in the pond/lake..HeHe! :).

I was out earlier in the week, cutting my grass,
though only a fraction of the size of yours, but,
l do enjoying seeing it cut, afterwards!

Think l'm getting confused..Broom! Broom! Do you
    mean..Broom! As in Broom..Broom! A Witches Broom!
(joke there somewhere)..! :). It's still a bit early
over here, still on my first lemon tea...! Broom! :).
    (l'll have another look later)..

    Well..best get on..Dare l ask..How many turkeys did
Poppy shoot last time out..? He seemed ALL dressed up
    for a massacre...!!! :(. HeHe! Bless! :).

    1. Well Willie, I did forget to show a picture of my new dollar broom. You are soooo funny! Nope, no bodies in the pond, yet. Hope it stays that way. In answer to your question about the turkeys...none! Poppy looks a lot more dangerous than he really is. Most days he comes home with a cute animal story. Yesterday he walked up on a turkey hen sitting on ten big pretty eggs. She flew away but came back to her nest later. He checked to be sure. He did get a quick picture of the eggs. Her nest is hidden under a brier patch and all that was showing were her long tail feathers. Pretty neat, isn't it?

    2. HeHe! Yes! ~~I~LOVE~TURKEYS~~ Preferably roasted...
along with potatoes, parsnips, carrots etc..And! And!
some my own home made gravy! :). To die for! :). Bless!

The only reason l asked about the broom..that l have
one sitting at the bottom of the stairs, made from
proper wood, twigs etc..and..it's a bit worn in the
middle..where a witch used to sit..it has full licence,
as is ready to fly at any time...!!! :o).

Turkey jokes l've just thought of...
What would you get if you crossed a turkey with an ghost?
      A poultrygeist!

Why did the police arrest the turkey?
      They suspected fowl play.

What happened when the turkey got into a fight?
He got the stuffing knocked out of him!

What do you get when you cross a turkey with a banjo?
A turkey that can pluck itself!

Which side of the turkey has the most feathers?
      The outside...
(sorry..that's all l can think of at the mo)...! :o).

  14. Love seeing these lovely bits at your place. So peaceful. Thanks for sharing. Love the reflections in the pond. I mowed this past Monday. Mowing is a year round chore, less in the cooler months, more in the summer if we've had rain.

    Your snowball bush is amazing!!

  20. I think only being able to mow a little bit at a time is a good thing. Less chance of heat stroke or sun burn that way.
    Your little place looks wonderful!

  21. Henny your playhouse is just adorable. Love the two pillows you put in that chair...by the looks of your yard and garden I am thinking you might need to take a rest there from time to time. I too live in a woods so I get you when it comes to the mowing. Take care friend and have a delightful weekend. Hugs!

  23. Your jumpiness at hitting a tree root made me chuckle. Every time I'd use the snowblower or lawnmower I'd jump three feet in the air at any sudden noise, convinced that I'd probably broken it somehow.

  30. Hello, HP! Your sweet little playhouse is looking better and better! It's fun to have "found" things work so well. I agree about a holly tree - esp. if it has red berries! Is there a prettier tree? We are mowing lots too, and have so much to do on our little piece of earth. I LOVE the photo of the pond -- the clouds in the water.
