Can't help but laugh at this picture...
kinda looks like a crooked little house from an old-timey nursery rhyme, or maybe where Popeye would have lived.
Oh my goodness friends, it has rained all day long!!
and this flowering quince that grows out by the gas tank is simply covered in buds. Guess maybe it's confused again this year.
I'll believe it when I see it, but tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, no rain, and 70 degrees. That's right!
Let me show you why my neighbor's free pine straw is so appreciated...
The straw turns this soft, mushy, soggy ground into a dry place to walk. Those little steps you see on the right lead to the chicken lot.
Yesterday afternoon the rain stopped. Oh wow!! I announced to Poppy, "I am going outside and move. See how many calories I can burn off before supper".
So I got the wheelbarrow and moved load after load of pretty dry pine straw. It felt wonderful!
That is dark muddy water and wet leaves you see in the back of the goat lot.
I swept out their little barn and spread enough straw to give them a little dry ground to walk on.
Well It's 4:00 and still raining. Guess I'd better get the umbrella and a bucket and get the goats a little hay, then Eli will be expecting a walk up and down the muddy road.
Poppy gets off work at 5:00 and thank heavens he is picking up fish plates for supper. What a nice break!

I just bought a pedometer to keep track of steps taken in a day, which is way BELOW what I should be taking.

Haven't we had enough rain yet!!?? We're soggy too. I also love to get the wheelbarrow and cart stuff around, usually mulch for some bed, or moving pots and plants from one spot to another. I'm eager for a sunny day tomorrow, and supposedly it should be sunny all next week ... we hope! Enjoy your outdoor time, HP!

We saw the sun this afternoon for the first time this year. Yay! I hope it is back tomorrow. Loading a wheelbarrow can give one a pretty good workout. I am sure if felt pretty good after days of being trapped inside because of the rain.

ReplyDeleteWe are back to rain here too, cold rain, stay inside and work on projects rain. Actually I'm still undecorating. I only got a little done today, what with Friday breakfast, grocery shopping, and a dentist appointment. Still waiting for the Novocaine to wear off. Tom will have leftover soup for supper. Eating is a ways off for me.

ReplyDeleteOh I hope you get some days of sunshine. We've had so much rain here too, more than we usually get in January. Today the decision was made that come Spring and dry weather we'll get the roofers to come and redo our roof. Until then we'll keep tarps up outside and pails under the drips inside.

Where little Red Riding Hoods granny lived..and was eaten and
swallowed by the BIG bad wolf...(Bless Him)..if l'd written the
story, l would have ended it there..after all..happy endings ALL
round..at least the wolf had a full tummy, and a bed to sleep in..
HeHe! Are'nt l wicked..!!! :(.
It's just very cold over here, frosty but dry, with a bit of sunshine,
managed to put a few things out on the line to dry..no heating as yet,
l don't feel the cold that much, will put the gas on low, next month,
see how it pans out..seems to change from day to day..keep warm with hot
drinks..and a sticky bun..don't forget the 'sticky bun'...! 😉 😃

I remember not all that long ago when your back was giving you so much pain that working outside was not that pleasant. It's great that you are feeling good again. ReplyDeleteI can empathise with you, here in Wales once it starts to rain it forgets how to stop. It is not uncommon to have 30 or more consecutive days of non stop rain.

Isn't it nice to be able to get out in the dead of winter and get some outside work done? Your pine straw work looks wonderful and I'm sure it helps when you have to traipses out through the soggy yard to feel all those animals.
ReplyDeleteThe weather here has been weird also-----40's and 50's. Are those flowers that I see on the flowering quince? Definitely out of season----poor things. I have daffodils coming up in several places here but the high for this Wednesday is for 27! I had been hoping that with the actual turn of the year we would get back to something resembling normal-----although now that I think of it 27 is sort of normal for early January so maybe this is the start of normality for us.
Dear Henny we have had such wet weather here as well. Our yard has been muddy off and on for the past 6 months. I think you and I need some special muck boots. :) Hope your new year is wonderful. Hugs!

ReplyDeleteI love your adorable house sweet friend! It looks so cozy and welcoming! How wonderful to have the free pine straw to lay down on the ground for you to walk on! We have tons of pine needles here, and I need to gather them and use them for things like that. It has been a strange winter here too, with so much rain, and hardly any snow. I still get out and walk every day, and that helps to break the sad spell gray holds over the world. Enjoy those fish plates for dinner, I made baked salmon and fried shrimp last night for dinner, and it was soo good. Blessings and hugs :)
