This post should have been done weeks ago...weeks!!
An email came to me from a blogging friend in Kentucky saying that she had some fabric pieces that I might use, and would I like to have them. The very thought of getting some fabric in the mail tickled me to death.
I was expecting a package of a few small fabric pieces, in fact, my reply to her was something about making dolls and how I used lots of small fabric pieces. Well, you can probably imagine my shock when the mail man brought a package too big and too heavy for the mail box and left it on the front steps.
All these beautiful fabrics! For days, in shock, I stood and stared, sorted and folded, and thought of things to make.
Most of these pieces were anywhere from four to six yards each and some of them I have already cut. Do you know that it actually hurt my heart to cut the first piece? Well, it did.
There was also a stack of fat quarters, think that's what these are called...
Fabric is expensive, so for me it has been finding pieces on sale, sometimes buying colors and prints that I didn't really like, but could afford; even searching for fabric at yard sales and thrift stores. Now, I've got my own little fabric shop right inside the teeny tiny sewing room. Diane, you have a heart of gold!
So, it has been like Christmas morning here ever since this package arrived. Diane is probably tired of hearing me say "thank you", but again, thank you Diane.
Oh gosh, back to reality. It's the back again. Yesterday I got another steroid injection in my spine for the painful herniated disks. Kinda funny, but Poppy drove me to my appointment in Wake Forest on Tuesday. Five minutes before the injection, the X-ray machine quit working. My appointment was rescheduled and cancelled three times this week.
You are not allowed to drive yourself after getting this injection. So yesterday, Shelby was kind enough to drive me. We did get to have lunch together and go in a couple of thrift stores. Always fun to have a little time with Shelby. Glad that steroid injection is over though.
Guess I need to get up from this computer and get busy!
What a difference you've made in my life! Thank you for your friendship!
Love,
Henny
What a wonderful unexpected gift Henny !
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics look like vintage prints, so they will fit perfectly for your bonnets and handmade dolls.
A fellow blogger gifted me a gorgeous Old Country Rose, Royal Albert teapot once, I couldn't get over the unselfish and thoughtful act, and to this day, think of this lady's generosity.
Enjoy your fabrics, I'm sure you have plans to make them into something very special.
Hugs,
~Jo
I meant to add.....please take it easy with your back, the injection can mask any discomfort, and allows you to overdo it, I've been there ;)
DeleteHugs,
~Jo
Beautiful fabric and a very thoughtful gift! I have a collection of fabric of various sizes as I save every scrap. There are so many things you can make out of even small pieces of fabric. I understand your feeling about not wanting to cut into a beautiful piece of fabric! I'm glad you finally got the injection in your back. I had to have a series of injections in my back once and although it was not fun, it did help. Please be careful so your back can heal and you can enjoy the holidays!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely gift of fabric for you to create with.
ReplyDeleteTake it easy with your back.
Happy Christmas holidays ~ FlowerLady

Wow! Not only is that a wonderful and kind present....but those materials are absolutely so so PRETTY!! i LOVE THEM!
ReplyDeleteCan't let a post go by without saying summat...
ReplyDeleteSo..I looked up..which is the most expensive fabric...
And...
The rarest and most expensive textile is made from the wool of the Vicuña,
a Camalide, Llama-like creature native to South America. About 2,000 US
Dollars per yard..
It is also the lightest, softest, and warmest fabric in existance...
So there...! ❄️ 🎁💐
What a wonderful blessing and a sweet friend in KY! Oh that fabric is just so lovely...and it looks like every pattern has been chosen just for you! God is SO good!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny. Always great to get an early Christmas Present...you can do lots with all the fabric. Hope your OK with your back problem Henny - nothing worse, sounds very serious- take care there. We've been having Summer Storms - lot of hail yesterday (about Golf Ball size)...the hail broke one of our windows- though it is easily fixed - thankfully no one injured from the severe storms. Best Wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteJust finishing up some Christmas stocking for our new twin granddaughters, so I understand your excitement over all that fabric. We sewers inevitably end up with a savings bank of material (it starts to feel like a miser's gold!) and then if we stop sewing, what do we do with it?
ReplyDeleteLots of sewing ahead in the sewing room. :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Sunday, Henny.
That's a beautiful blessing. If I fantasize with free mailed packages, it would be of books!!
ReplyDeleteThe fabrics are wonderful and it'll be fun to get started. Your back issues sound painful, truly. I'm sorry this is an ongoing problem but I'm glad there is something to help you with it. Blessings!
You are so kind, so true, Henny. I am so excited FOR you, getting such a fabric-y parcel that you love so much!
ReplyDeleteI hope your spine is feeling better today. (BIG HUG!)
Take good care of your back and enjoy the lovely fabric gift from
ReplyDeleteyour sweet friend. Have always heard, to have a friend you must
be one and isn't that so true. Have a happy Sunday.
Phyllis
What a rainbow of colors! You will have hours of fun finding uses for this wonderful gift. I cringe when you talk of your injections and wish so much you didn't have to have them. But if they take away the pain ... I guess it's well worth it. I'm glad you have your sister for lunch and an outing to reward yourself after. I'm sure it helps you through the experience.
ReplyDeleteI hope that your back is pain free now. Those steroid shots can be miraculous. My back is in good shape for my age, thank goodness, but my feet are another story. Pain is absolutely no fun. Living with it every day and night sure drains you. Now hopefully you'll be able to enjoy making things with your new treasure trove of fabric. By the way, I bought 2 Christmas aprons from you and set one aside to use as a gift. It has Santas on it. I gave it to my son's girlfriend (they're in their early 40s). She has 2 sons, 7 & 9. I thought she'd enjoy it after seeing an apron hanging in her kitchen. I gave it to her a couple of days ago and she texted me that she and her sons are making gingerbread houses today and she's wearing her Christmas apron. Thank you! It makes me feel good to know that I made her happy. You made both of us happy!
ReplyDeleteThat fabric gift is amazing Henny Penny. I am so sorry I have not been visiting your blog but we had a lightning storm take out our internet for over a week. I have been enjoying catching up on your posts ... love your Christmas Tree!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift! You will make good use of that fabric too! I hope your steroid injections are working....My Mom had them and they didn't work, now she has had two ablations at a Pain Clinic and is much improved.
ReplyDeleteHope your back is feeling better now. Sorry I haven't written but we have been so busy at work! If I don't talk with you again before Christmas, I hope you and your family have a very merry one!
ReplyDeleteWow! When she said fabric, she meant fabric! I can't wait to see what you do with all the different colors and patterns.
