All in a day's time we went from summer to winter. This happened Sunday, when a cold blustery north wind spent the day here, dropping the temperature into the low 30's by Monday morning and causing a frost to cover the teeny tiny garden.
Knowing this frost was in the forecast, I pulled the pink wheelbarrow just inside the gate and began picking...
the last of the peppers and the okra, all the zinnias, including the ones that didn't look so pretty, then clipped the little purple gomphrena blooms. Remember that one volunteer plant that showed up late in the season? Also found three fat melons in the tangle of vines.
I'm not much at flower arranging, so just stuck them in a vase.
and hung three little bunches of these to dry,
along side the peppers I've been stringing up.
eew, not a good mix of colors
Speaking of color, isn't this pretty? I have no idea what it is. Such a long skinny stem. This is growing in the woods just down the dirt path a ways.
Poppy and I don't do much playing of the lottery, buying tickets and such, but this morning he handed me a twenty dollar bill and said, when you in to town to get your flu shot, stop somewhere and get us ten lottery tickets...so I did.
The Mega Millions! 1.6 billion!! Can you imagine Poppy and me with that much money! I did hear that you are more likely to be killed by a falling coconut than you are to win the lottery. :)
Do you ever think about what you would do with all that money? I would definitely give every person in the family, one million, that would be my first mission. Then I would fence in our little five acre property so Eli could run free. My next mission would be to build a big beautiful barn with a hay loft filled with sweet smelling hay...and buy those two donkeys I've always wanted. Heck, I would probably just buy a big farm with all that included. Oh good gosh!
a little look at how much prettier the pond color is, going into winter this year...not the usual muddy. Yay for that!
Love,
Henny

I like your peppers on the fireplace. Actually very good color combo. So your temp was about as low as here in central MN! The pond looks beautiful. Maybe nice weather now for awhile. Phil
ReplyDeleteI was day-dreaming just today what I'd do with all that money!! ( I didn't buy any tickets so my chances are NIL)
ReplyDeleteYour little garden did so well. Just look at all those peppers hanging by the fireplace.
It is good to dream, because you never know, it could be you! Wheelbarrow envy here, both for the barrow and the contents, what a nice haul and what an adorable wheelbarrow. I hope to hear that two donkeys are about to be re-homed with you - best of luck!
ReplyDeleteSuddenly Winter is upon you- good luck with the Lottery. Do like the last of the season's bounty in your wheelbarrow-and the flowers in the glass vase looks just right- beautiful. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteArrrrgh! Oh! No! 'Cut' flowers in a vase..
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame! Poor things! As soon as l saw
them, l made the sign of the cross! :(.
HeHe! Bless! Love the chilli peppers, hanging
over the fireplace..and l especially love the
two pictures, especially the one on the left..!
And..the old up~side~down gun..is that for getting
the fire going on chilly mornings..! :).
And..Yes! Your Lottery has been mentioned over here
on the news..if you win it..perhaps you'll get round
to sending me that 'pink' wheelbarrow! HaHa! If you
win it..you could send a dozen of them..! :).
Well..best get on..not quite daylight yet..on me
first lemon tea..great post Henny...shame about the
flowers..God rest their little petals...! :(. 😸 😺
The peppers drying look pretty. It's pretty chilly here.
ReplyDeleteLove those peppers hanging and the flowers. Your garden is very bountiful!
ReplyDeleteOh! I've just switched the 1 o'clock news on...
ReplyDeleteAnd..And..
The winning numbers of America’s biggest ever lottery
jackpot have been revealed–with the lucky ticket holder
hailing from South Carolina...
Quick..get packed and move south...!!! :o).
Hi! Really nice post! I love the pink wheelbarrow and all your produce. The pond is lovely and your peppers drying are lovely, looks very cozy at your fireplace. The lottery, indeed. I don't even know what I would do with that kind of money -- when the numbers get so big I can't even imagine it! Congratulations to the winner in S.C.!
ReplyDeleteWell I only bought one lottery ticket but didn't have any of the numbers drawn. That's my luck. I always tell people I couldn't win even if I knew what numbers they were going to be drawing! Love the strings of peppers on your fireplace. Do you cook with them or just use them for decoration?
ReplyDeleteI do find it funny when people get all excited over the super jackpots when the lottery gets that big.
ReplyDelete13.5 million? That's chump change apparently.
Whoever wins this will be the first billionaire in the 21st century to pay taxes.
Nothing like a frost to make you get hyper about the garden. You grow different plants than I do.
ReplyDeleteWe have gone from summer to winter in a blink of an eye :) Your zinnias look so lovely Henny :)
ReplyDeleteSo good you picked all the good things left in your garden. Love those strung up peppers. One of our local weathermen said he would not quit his job if he won the lottery...well not for two days or so. LOL. It was dreaming wasn't it? I would give to all my family members and my hometown would be awesome. :):) Blessings to you sweet girl, get your wooly socks out. I think winter is coming early. xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteNow you've got me thinking what I would do with that sort of money...
ReplyDeleteYou know I wouldn't even want that much money. It would cause too many problems.
ReplyDeleteI love your pink wheelbarrow.
Good day Henny! I wish you could have your donkeys and fence in the yard for sure! You have wanted those donkeys for a long time. I think that your garden has been lovely all summer and into the late fall, it really has done good. The colors look good to me too, we had a really wet summer here in the mountains and I had nothing. Your photos are beautiful, makes my day to see all the beauty you have harvested! Love Terry
ReplyDeleteOoooh...what a pretty little pink barrel of lovely produce. Isn't it amazing how our weather changed so fast? I love what you are going to do with your lottery winnings! I have never really ever thought about having that kind of money!
ReplyDeleteOh- We think so much alike. I said the same thing- I would give each family member a million and the same to two or three friends that I know could use it.
ReplyDeleteLove your produce that you were able to bring in.
Happy Wednesday night- xo Diana
Fantastic images, the veg is superb, thanks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures - your garden harvest looks so pretty, and the lake... Sometimes I allow myself to imagine what I would do if I won the lottery, but then I get to wishing, so I find it easier if I don't!
ReplyDeleteI love your flower arrangements and your peppers drying. I wish you and Poppy the best of luck winning the lottery. You deserve the farm, hay and donkeys that you long for. Love you bunches.
ReplyDeleteThe pond is beautiful! I like your flowers and the peppers drying too.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see what happens with the lottery...
Your harvest day was full of goodies saved from the frost. No frost here yet, but the garden is all put away anyway.
ReplyDeleteI think most of us think about how we would spend millions. I could not even imagine managing a Billion! I see someone in South Carolina won that lottery.
Ah Hennie it sounds like your weather did exactly what ours did. Like you I hurried to gather in the last of this year's garden goodies. Your pond is beautiful - If you won the lottery I would be keeping that spot for sure. :)! Some things money just cannot buy. Hugs! P.S. read your previous post on the fair. Sure looks like a wonderful couple of days. Especially that apple pie delicacy.
ReplyDeletedid you win? someone did in your state
ReplyDeleteThe pond is pretty. We ended up with about 3 minutes of autumn too, well, not that bad. We haven't been in the 30s year, but I did notice a little frost of some type on the weeds one morning. It's chilly. What would I do with the lottery money? Pay the taxes on it first, haha! Get each of us a new vehicle because ours are nearly dead. Pay off the mortgage. Not work anymore. I wouldn't improve our house; I'd tear it down and build a little one with a pretty screened porch on the back of the property ... no, I'd move somewhere else where Adam could have bees ... i'm rambling :) Happy thoughts.
ReplyDeleteWell, the winner was close to you. If I win a big prize, I would build a compound of lovely houses and give them to my family to keep them close. Everyone would have a job so they wouldn't get bored. My oldest daughter loves to cook, so she could cook meals for the family, and one son-in-law is a financial person so he could do all the books. Can you tell I had it all planned out? Drats, didn't win.
