Been in and out of the sewing room today, taking pictures of the few bonnets and aprons, finished and ready to put in a teeny tiny bonnet shop.
Driving myself crazy, or crazier, that's what I'm doing! How the heck do you post a little title and then add a page to your blog? It should be so simple...but not for me! Oh no! I've read and looked and hunted and searched and called Lynn. Lynn said, "I will call you tomorrow morning, Mom".
So, meanwhile in the sewing room, isn't she lovely, this pretty doll from Germany? Sometimes I just feel like holding her. Andee sent this doll to me back when they were stationed in Germany.
The little sewing room makes me happy. I've just got to get busy sewing again so there will be pretty items to add to my new page...if I ever get there.
Oh my goodness. Growing up in the 1950's, one of the most exciting times of the year was when the Sears Roebuck Christmas catalog would arrive. It took some serious looking and studying to decide on which doll I would ask for. That was almost as exciting as finding that very doll under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning.
One rarely caught me without a doll in my arms...and this went on until I was about sixteen years old. Dolls were much more fun than thinking about boys. We were living in Summerville SC, not far from Charleston, when this picture was taken.
Wherever we lived, Mama gave me a closet in the house to use for a dollhouse and I was always busy taking care of the dolls and keeping house.
Better get busy! You know how Mondays are, and Eli has an appointment with the groomer for a bath and a good brushing...and Poppy gets off work at noon...good gosh, and Lynn is supposed to call! Hope to be back soon.

By the way, I never heard a word about the bunny cage. Guess it must have been sold.
Too bad about the bunny cage - it looked like the Taj Mahal of rabbit hutches.

ReplyDeleteI just love your sweet dolls! I used to collect them and had quite collection but throughout the years, I've given them to grand daughters and the like. I still have about 6 that are special to me. Your sewing room must be such a special place for you! My sewing table that holds my machine has seen better days so I'll have to begin using my desk. ReplyDeleteYour dolls are sweet, but I'm afraid I'm not much of a doll person. I was a tomboy and much more into sports than girly stuff. Didn't get into all that until I was much older.

ReplyDeleteI was never much for dolls, although I do still have one that I got for Christmas when I was 5 or 6. Playing Barbies with my sister, once we had got all the furniture and accessories set up, I didn't want to play anymore. Your's are lovely though, and the one is dressed like you and Lynn!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like typical Craigslist. I used to get so frustrated when I didn't hear back, but I had to get used to it. I try to be a little bit more polite if it is me that is selling something though.
I need to get back and do some sewing, but just no time right now. Kind of sad when I am down to two aprons and one bag to put out at the farmers market.
I adore dolls and you have some beautiful ones. The bonnet is just so so pretty xx
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you are going through with trying to get to the point that you can sell! I've been going through that very thing. My problem is that I find it much more interesting to look for patterns, on Pinterest, than I do actually making those patterns! LoL I love making and doing but when looking online, before I know what has happened, it is too late to actually make whatever I was looking for. Seasons come and seasons go, yet I get nothing made for any particular time! UGH! I look forward to you selling your wares, my dear, because I might just have to purchase a bonnet or two!

I know exactly what you're saying. Wish you could see the patterns I've brought home with big plans but then dread even cutting out the patterns sizes. I am really trying to have fun at sewing again but it sure is hard. Maybe I will get my page added tomorrow. Thank you Pam

ReplyDeleteI was too much of a tomboy to care about dolls when I was a kid. I did have some though, but I'd rather be playing outside in the woods. I guess I haven't changed much. : )

Such beatiful dolls, and so beautifully dressed. I loved my dolls, too, but I didn't always get a new one at Christmas. Sometimes Mrs Santa Claus just dressed up one of my old dolls in a fantastic new outfit she made. One year it was a bride dress with a veil and bouquet and everything. Henny, is that you in the picture behind the baby doll holding one of your real babies? Such a sweet photo.

DeleteI'm not surprised that you're not getting much sewing done these days. Summer is so busy with other things. Just wait until late fall and winter. You'll get more sewing done then.

ReplyDeleteOh how I remember the Sears catalog. Also JC Penneys! I also loved and still love dolls. My doll cabinet is so full I can't fit any more in it. And do you remember the "new doll smell"? Under the Christmas tree would be a new doll and it always had that familiar smell. Dolls dont smell like that anymore. I always encouraged my two daughters to play with their dolls as long as they could. Because once you give dolls up you never go back. And being grown up last much longer than childhood. I tell my Granddaughters this now! Take care!
