That old sweet Smokey kept me company in the kitchen last night...
"With all the cans of kitty cat food we open every day, you need to stay away from little bird's nests and baby bunnies", I told him.
and...
the wild 'Pussytoes' are beginning to bloom. Aren't they cute? The blooms look and feel just like the soft little toes on a kitty.
Said I would be back with pictures of the yellow water iris around the pond, so starting here at the dam...
up the hill to the mimosa tree...
not that it's all that great, but the amazing thing is that we bought one, just one,water iris in 1996 and planted it by the pond.
Well, surely I have worn out my welcome. There's lots of work to be done today, so I need to get busy. Oh, The teeny tiny garden is planted. Not much to show yet, but I'll be back.

It's funny..you feed and love pussy~cats..but..they will
still go out and hunt, kill and eat birds, mice etc..Well,
mice, that's o.k l suppose, my George used to bring them home,
as they are gifts, l used to make a fuss of him, pick up said
mouse, and dispatch it..Bless! :(.
I do love that lake/pond of yours Henny, it really is very
special, and with the Iris around it, sets it off really
lovely...I promise not to mention anything about a torso! :).

Hi Henny- your Cat 'Smokey' looks to be a real nice Cat- very homely and nice to have around. ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe you got all those pretty water irises from one plant! Amazing! Oh, wanted to let you know that Molly went for her one year check-up and she scored an A+ from the vet. She weighs 91.5 pounds. The vet said she could probably stand to lose 5 pounds. Molly and me both! Can't wait to see your garden!

Oh that lovely pond area...I would have a hard time prying myself away and getting anything done...those irises are stunning!

Wow Henny....your yellow Irises are just gorgeous. And love that Smokey....his coat is such a beautiful color....reminds me of my Clyde-boy from many years ago. ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a plant called Pussy toes before but I can imagine how soft those buds/flowers would feel.
What a pretty pretty place y'all have there! Love the spring pictures, and those yellow iris flowers are so pretty around the water...I was just gettin ready to ask "did y'all plant all those?", and then read where you only planted one a long time ago, they sure are pretty. Your beautiful Smokey is the exact image of our beautiful Smokey, we lost this past year. I miss him so so much, he was with me all the time. I lost both Gypsy and Smokey w/in months of each other. I've had many Russian Blue kitties over the years, they are the sweetest cats!
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow water iris. It's amazing what nature can do if conditions are right. I've never heard of nor seen pussytoes. I looked them up and found that they're in the aster family, but parts of them are poisonous so deer and small animals leave them alone. I'm glad that you've gotten your garden planted. It's much too wet here to plant. I hope the current wave of storms pass you by; the winds are intense and the rain torrential.

Wow, that’s quite a crop of yellow irises! Beautiful. Smoky is good company in the kitchen. I usually have Bob the Border Collie at my feet, ever hopeful that something will land in her treat bowl.
