Earlier, I started a post looking out the back screen door...
saying there were no fall colors here yet, then thought, well let me take another look...
so carrying the camera, I walked around the outside of the house and down to the pond...
and actually found some pretty fall colors, and there on an old log, sat a big frog...
then going back up the leaf strewn path to the house...
past the rusty old yard chairs that need a coat of paint...and around to the front of the house where the little willow oak leaves are starting to fall...
and friends, this is just the beginning of the falling leaves. Another few weeks and we will be ankle deep in leaves; not a speck of green will show through.
I love the little willow oak leaves that fall in the front yard and enjoy raking them. It's the willow oak leaves I use to cover the teeny tiny garden before cold freezing weather sets in.
While wantering around, I made another picture of Poppy's new carport. I'll tell you why...
In passing, something about it reminded me of a covered bridge...so this will be "the covered bridge" on Henny Penny Lane. :) How's that for make believe?
Made me remember "The Bridges of Madison County", the book and the movie. Oh my gosh! But I really wanted Francesca to run away with Robert Kincaid. I mean, how could she not have gone with him! But then, I love Clint Eastwood!
Okay back to the yard, and the dullness of my life. The most excitement I've had lately is breaking my wrist, and the new knobs and pulls on the kitchen cabinets.
Oh, and would you look...
While down at the pond taking pictures, a plane flew over, heading to RDU from up north. I just pointed the camera up and had no idea I would see the plane in the picture. Had to zoom in, but there it is. Takes very little to make me happy. :)
Let me end this here. I'm going in all directions! Sure appreciate you all!
Love,
Henny
Peaceful post, Henny... and peaceful pics. The first looking through your screen door and the third of the pond are my favorites. Hoping your wrist heals fast. Take care.
ReplyDeleteES LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE TE ESCRIBO, ME ENCANTA TU CABAΓA, ES TAN PACIFICO Y ACOGEDOR, AMO EL OTOΓO PERO MI PREFERIDO ES EL INVIERNO, ME ENCANTA LA PELICULA EL PUENTE SOBRE EL RIO MADISON, LA HE VISTO 3 VECES, MERYL ES UNA DE LAS ACTRICES MAS TALENTOSAS Y CLINT, NI HABLAR, MAS VIEJO, MAS LINDO, TAMBIEN PIENSO COMO TU, SE TENDRIA QUE HABER IDO CON EL...... PERO NOSOTROS NO ESCRIBIMOS EL GUION JAJAJAJAJA. BENDICIONES Y SALUDOS DESDE BUENOS AIRES ARGENTINA.
ReplyDelete"How's that for make believe?"
ReplyDeleteI think it's perfect!
I love that first peek through your screen door, exactly the type of door I would love to have instead of the modern steel one that adorns our house. The walk around the property was exactly the peaceful place I needed today. Could I please come and visit? :-) Your home and property is exactly what Dennis and I have wanted all of our marriage. Some dreams we must let go of and replace them with others.
ReplyDeleteI pray that your wrist is healing well and that you will soon be able to rake, and jump into, those leaves!!!
Blessings and love,
Betsy
Such a pretty walk....love it. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see you can still take photos and type a bit, Henny, lol. Hope the wrist is not too painful by now.
ReplyDeleteAnd is the black cast doing it's best to not look dirty? You'll be wanting to leaf rake with that metal rake you got
a year or 2 ago. Up here today it is just plain dark out. No sun and no break in the clouds. I saw your plane just fine
after you said it was in the sky picture. any imagination about bridges or otherwise, makes for a happy day.
We are a little bit ahead of you in fall color-but not full on color yet. Maybe a week away here.
ReplyDeleteI have watched Bridges of Madison County a few times and I ALWAYS want her to open that that truck door and jump out in the rain and run after Robert Kincaid. However, I do understand obligation and have chosen that route in my own life on some level(s). Hugs- Diana
You say it's a plane - I'll believe you. - lol
ReplyDeleteThat third picture looks like an Impressionist painting.
ReplyDeleteI love your imagination - I believe it helps us stay young. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures from around your yard. Such a happy place to live!!
OK, I'm laughing now. At you. I hope that's OK. You see I live less than a mile east of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and while those planes don't take off right over my house, we hear them, and the helicopters that also frequent the sky here due to the major freeways to the east of us that often have crashes. My life is very different from yours, and I like my life, but I also love hearing about, and seeing, yours.
ReplyDeleteHenny your little farm is just magical in all seasons! Your first picture is very special with the frame of the screen door around the view. You mentioned "The Bridges of Madison County" and I agree with you, the book and the movie are just wonderful. People with good imaginations are among my favorite people. Don't ever lose yours because it is like icing on the cake of life! I hope your wrist is doing better. You two take care!
ReplyDeleteWhat you are not going to believe is that I first thought Covered Bridge...then it kicked in right away that it was the carport. I love it when you take us on a tour of your place. I hope your wrist is healing nicely!
ReplyDeleteHello Rose, I had the exact same thought as you re the carport/covered bridge. Weird isn't it?
DeleteSomeone posted about the third pic down. I too like it. You framed it just perfectly and the reflections of the trees in the water is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you are taking it easy and enjoying the coming of fall and not anxious about the leaves that will inevitably fall. Things often manage to take care of themselves if we will only let them.
Dear Henny....you must be managing pretty well with that sparkly wrist of yours cause you didn't complain about it! In fact you're out and about taking beautiful pictures! thank you for those. I really love the ones you took from the house looking out at the yard....so pretty...looking out the door and the porch! And that frog....he's so big he almost looks like a rubber decoy!!! Thanks for an always great blog Melba! Love ya.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your leaves! Mine are all gone!
ReplyDeleteI love the view through the screen door.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the walk with you too!
Our leaves haven't started to fall, but the acorns have in force.
I thought that was a covered bridge when I first saw the picture.
I can get excited just walking through fallen leaves! I also love the view through the screen door. I hope the wrist is doing well and healing nicely. I can now almost forget that mine was ever broken. Almost!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pleasant walk around your place. That frog is huge, I had to wonder if he was real or not. I look at all your chairs around the place and think, Yes! I could happily sit there for hours and just watch nature all around me.
ReplyDeleteHappy leaf raking :) xx

Looks and sounds perfect, Henny. You all be safe and God bless!
ReplyDeleteHope you are giving that wrist a rest! It looks pretty there, I know what you mean about leaves! I will do our yard one last time this week and then put the lawn mower away for the winter:)
ReplyDeleteI thought that was a covered bridge. That will be fun to call it the Henny Penny Lane Bridge.
ReplyDeleteTake care my dear friend.
Thank you for sharing the early sightings of autumn with us.
Love, Carla
How pretty your property is!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post! There's a peaceful feeling about it, that only comes at this time of year, when nature is preparing to sleep. ❤❤
ReplyDeleteFrom the outside, from the bare desert, your life seems very interesting, never boring! I love seeing the leaves! And the property. The carport really does look like a covered bridge, too!
ReplyDeleteYou live in such a beautiful place. What awesome fall photos. I enjoyed your posting very much. Happy Fall!
ReplyDeleteJust look at that big old frog! He doesn’t seem to be bothered by human company, either. Some of the trees in our front yard are starting to lose their leaves. They never turn color, just brown, and then fall down so we have to rake them up. Doesn’t seem fair that they can’t show off a bit first!
