and around the teeny tiny garden, cleaning and mowing and moving things around...
let me tell you...it was roasting hot!! But it was such a mess. I moved several pots to the back, then swept the playhouse floor...
but here's what I want to show you. Well, first, let me say, I've never grown succulents and know absolutely nothing about them, but my neighbor Ann gave me a little wilted half dead sprout a while back. I stuck it in a pot...
and it grew and grew and so, has sort of attached itself to my heart. I had them lined up on this old bench when late one night, something prowling around, pushed them over and onto the ground. That's when I learned how easily the leaves break off.
I gathered them up, broken leaves and all and put them on the table in the playhouse. Today, this is what I found...
Blooms! What a surprise! Pretty blooms!
I especially like this picture. Guess maybe I should read up on Succulents and learn how to care for them. Funny thing is, as long as I leave them alone, they grow beautifully.
Happened to see Poppy through the trees...
So now I'm headed to the sewing room to finish up a few things. This week I've made two bonnets and five clothespin dolls. But there's a doll I've been thinking about and just want to hold...
Andee sent me this doll from Germany several years ago when they were stationed there.
She is such a pretty doll; 20" tall, just right to hold. She reminds me of a favorite doll I had when I was young.
Kind of a mixed up post...but guess it will do. Appreciate your visit so much. Be back soon.
Love,
Henny
Pretty doll! Your playhouse area looks so peaceful!
ReplyDeleteHenny, you're back so soon!!!! How nice! Your teeny tiny garden and playhouse area looks great. and how I love succulents.....yours are looking amazing! I've never seen them flower like yours are! Wow.... they are so pretty. I love your clothespin dolls...do they have long dresses and bonnets? As I remember, they always turn out soooo nice. Your doll from Germany reminds me of one I had when I was growing up too. So pretty. Take good care Henny!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane. I will show the clothespin dolls on my next post. Been a while since I've made any but they did turn out ok. Maybe I like succulents now too. :) Maybe I'll buy one now. You take care too Diane.
DeleteAwww this is the best post. I love the succulents is that hen and biddies I have some but mine have never bloomed. Love you bunches
ReplyDeleteI've always loved your play house! Those succulents are such a beautiful color. Maybe they just had to be shook up a little to bloom! Is that a china doll? She is so pretty! You and Poppy take care and love all those wonderful furry family members you have for me!
ReplyDeleteYour playhouse is so neat and tidy. I think I'll do some much-needed tidying in mine tomorrow. It's so much more pleasant being outside now that the weather has become cooler.
ReplyDeleteYou sure had success with your succulents. They must be happy with whatever you're doing or they wouldn't bloom.
Hi Henny- I like your German Doll- very cute and at 20" Tall -very impressive! Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteOh! Wow! Henny..I was just scrolling down
ReplyDeletethe post wondering if that succulent came
in pink, when suddenly l saw the pink flowers,
amazing..l love succulents, the only trouble
is, they are quite fragile..brittle..and snap
off quite easily when bent..! I have some in
the bathroom, they grow well in there, but,
then all flowers do..and some in the front
room, out the way hanging on the walls..!
Out of harms way..! There lovely, but fragile!
And..l think the one you have there above is
called the 'Mexican Snowball'...!
The German doll is lovely to...The face is so
life like, and l love the hair and eyes..! :).
✨ 💛 ✨ 💛 ✨ 💛 ✨ 💛 ✨ 💛 ✨ 💛 ✨
PS..I waved to Poppy..But! He did'nt wave back..! :(.
Thank you Willie. I didn't realize just how fragile succulents are until now. How exciting that they are blooming...and in pink! Sorry Poppy didn't wave back...He rarely waves to me when he is tinkering around with the 4-wheeler.
DeleteBeautiful blooms! Was it the breaking that caused them to blossom? Funny the lessons in nature...
ReplyDeleteIt is a very lovely post. It was nice seeing you your doll which of course is a fantastic souvenir from your daughter. Emily get to see your lovely flowers and even Poppy. Have a great weekend and I hope it's not as hot down there as it is up here.
ReplyDeleteI loved your post! I always kill succulents; I keep fussing over them, probably drip too much water on them. I think your "neglect" is just what they need, because you have a spectacular collection now, and they BLOOMED! And what a pretty doll! I would love to see pictures of the clothespin dolls you make, too. I have not seen any clothespin dolls for a long, long time.
ReplyDeleteLove that first pic, Henny. I could see myself having a cup of tea right there beside your tiny garden. And those succulents are fantastic... I've never seen those blooms before!
ReplyDeleteI’m trying some succulents this year for the first time, too. Yours are doing much better than mine! Mine are okay, just smaller and less dramatic. I really like them though. Your German doll has a beautiful face.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post. Your playhouse looks so tidy and nice. I love succulents but do have a problem with rabbits nibbling them away. I suppose they provide them with water when it gets dry. I love the doll. I would like to recreate her dress for one of my dolls.
ReplyDeleteThat succulent is amazing! I had a cutting like that that a friend gave me. She said to just stick it in the ground, and it would grow. And it did! I'm not very green fingered, but it worked!
ReplyDeleteI cannot BELIEVE that you are able to get outside in this HEAT!!! It's too awful, and I'm waiting until the highs are consistently around 80. Or lower.
Succulents are amazingly easy to grow dear Henny & don't mind being neglected. If you get frosts in your area then I would be careful as they can burn their leaves quite badly. I love the dolly - she has the sweetest face. xx
ReplyDeleteI love your outdoor play house!!
ReplyDeleteThose plants remind me of hens and chicks.
Your comment about just letting the succulents grow made me remember a quote that I wrote down in one of my quote journals. I can't find it just now but it went something like this: Most plants manage to grow despite the gardener's attempts to help them. That rings exceedingly true in many instances.
ReplyDeleteTerribly hot here the last couple of weeks. But we got a 20 minute downpour yesterday afternoon and got a whole inch of rain. Much needed.
Oooh - those succulents are very pretty! I like that doll too.
ReplyDeleteI've not had good luck growing succulents except for a pencil cactus that my grandson gave me. Yours are very pretty. Your playhouse is very quaint and cute, I love it!
ReplyDeleteOh your playhouse looks so nice. Like the picture of poppy too with your home in the back ground. The doll is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Judy. I appreciate your visiting.
DeleteWE grow those succulents, echeverias, in pots and in the ground, but they have to come into the greenhouse for winter. They are not hardy here. We usually start over each spring with the babies, offsets, of the bigger plants. The blooms are fun.
ReplyDeleteYour playhouse is looking very tidy and pretty.
Hi Henny,
ReplyDeleteI am new to succulents too, I love them. They are fun. I LOVE the playhouse.
Oh your doll is lovely...does she have a name? Love her hat. As for your succulents they seem to like you very much. I tried growing hens and eggs but for some reason they didn't do to well for me and somewhere in plant heaven they reside :). Seeing yours makes me want to try growing one again. Well give Ellie and Eli a hug for me. Have a great week. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteLovely post.
ReplyDeleteThose blooms are such a nice colour.
Your doll is lovely.
Take care.
All the best Jan
I love succulents - mainly because they still thrive no matter how much I neglect them! I love geraniums for the same reason.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty doll and I love love love your green rocking chair! :) xx
Thank you for visiting me. Your outdoor area is gorgeous! I see your succulent even had some babies! I have been growing small succulents for a few years, and I have this kind. But they have never bloomed before! They are easy to grow, just give them plenty of light, and not much water. Love your pink watering can and frog! Wow, you have a lot of comments!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny! I read this post the day you posted it but I couldn't comment until I got home. Blogger doesn't like my phone. :-) Your succulents are gorgeous. I kill them. Every. Single. Time. I've tried several different times and the poor things don't stand a chance. I don't know what I do to them.
ReplyDeleteLove your playhouse and would truly enjoy a cup of tea or glass of ice tea with you there. We could sit and talk for hours.
Take care my friend and please give Eli and Ellie hugs for me. I've been trying to talk my Hubby into a new dog like yours and he's refusing so far. I think he thinks it would be WAY too hot for them here.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Wow those succulents are just beautiful, I would never think of growing or tending to them! And blooms!!! The doll is really cute! :) I love your little playhouse!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty photos.........and it is very hot here as well! Looks like you have a green thumb for succulents! They are so pretty! The doll looks so sweet!
ReplyDeleteI love succulent but no longer have any...I forget what happened to mine. Love your playhouse.
