Nowadays, I don't even think about the cabin being red...
except for the other day walking back from the garden and noticing how the setting sun reflected on the red logs...
Funny thing too, I had been singing to myself that old hymn, "Life's evening sun is sinking low, a few more days and I must go...to meet the deeds that I have done, where there will be no setting sun." You know how you get a song stuck in your head.
Anyhow, a bit of news here...
Leek seeds! Found these missing seeds this morning in a lunch bag tucked inside a granite ware pot on the pantry shelf. Yep, put where I would be sure to remember. Wonder if it's too late to plant a few?
and another thing...
ever since we added the new table, rug, and those thrift store curtains, I have not been able to find the perfect tablecloth...until now.
Know what had been missing...the word "rustic"! Went online, entered "rustic log cabin type tablecloths" and immediately I knew this was the one! "Burlap! A soft Burlap that hangs pretty.
Still doing a little re-decorating, Poppy and I got the hall painted in that Legionaire Tan color like the bathroom.
Had to take all the old framed pictures off the walls...
Cat's can get comfortable anywhere! Today, I plan to put a few of these pictures back on the hall wall.
and a bit of gardening news, I didn't know...
Dill will inhibit the growth of Eggplant and Bell Peppers. Who knew!
Dill was growing all in the teeny tiny garden. I mean there were big pretty dill plants growing next to the Eggplants and the some of the bell pepper plants. The Eggplants especially, were struggling to survive. Oh, they were pitiful looking.
So, I Googled, "which plants are compatible with Dill"? Well, I discovered quite a list of plants that do terrible planted near Dill.
That's when I pulled out the dehydrator and plugged it in...
The dill almost dried away to nothing, but after crumbling it into a paper bag, made quite a bit for a spice jar. I did leave two healthy dill plants growing in the garden, near the tomatoes. :)
Well, I did say there were several little things. Thank you for putting up with my blogging.
and since my last thank you, a couple more followers; thank you! I appreciate your friendship.
Love,
Henny

something about that setting sun
That brings back memories. I grew up singing that song, but haven't heard it or thought about it in a long time!
ReplyDeleteThe line I was singing was the only one I could remember. :)
DeleteYep, put the seeds in the crock. They'll be safe in there - hahaha sooo something I do on a semi-regular basis:-)
ReplyDeleteMe too. All the time!
DeleteI am trying to learn not to put things in a "safe place" as I ALWAYS lose them! Love the way the cabin glows in the evening light, it looks so welcoming :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. Isn't that funny? That safe place is always the place you can't remember.
DeleteLove your home inside and out. Nice to have fresh dill and what a find with that burlap tablecloth. Perfect. Happy Living ~ FlowerLady
ReplyDeleteThank you Lorraine.
DeleteThat is a nice song to have struck in your mind and heart. I had no idea about the dill being bad around egg plant or peppers. I have dill coming up everywhere in my garden by the blackberries. Once you plant dill you will have it forever, LOL. I like to put it in bouquets for pretty greenery among the flowers.
ReplyDeleteThank you Connie. Hope you're doing well these days. I didn't know that about dill either. I don't remember it hurting anything in the garden last year. Well, I didn't have any luck with peppers last year, come to think of it.
DeleteI just love your house. It looks so homey and comfortable and the yard is so wonderful and neat! And who is that pretty lady on the far left side of the picture pile.
ReplyDeleteIt's been blowing a gale all day long here. A cold front (yes!) is moving in and the humidity has dropped it seems like about 100%. I can sure live with that!
Thank you Vic. You are the one with the yard!! The beautiful yard! That lady on the far left is Dan's mother when she was young. We're into hot humid stormy weather...but hopefully a cold front is headed this way.
DeleteDill only grows for me if it came from a previous year's dill. I have tried seeding it in a nice row...not one seed came up. For years I had dill growing among my flowers but then one year I had exactly 2 plants. I made sure to leave one of them to shed its seeds but ever since then I get just a few plants. Who knows why!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found your missing seeds.
Who knew that Burlap comes in nice soft fabric instead of the coarse stuff. Your tablecloth looks perfect.
Thank you Granny Marigold. Dill sure is a pretty plant. I was shocked at how soft and pretty the burlap tablecloth is. Had it been the regular old stiff itchy burlap, I would have returned it. I love this one!
DeleteYour house looks beautiful with the sun shining on it like that!!
ReplyDeleteDidn't know that about dill.
Thank you Happyone!
DeleteDear Jenny your table cloth is just perfect. Had to smile when you said the kitties couldn't get comfortable anywhere. Mine never liked me redecorating either. Keeping their paws out of the paint is a challenge too :). Thanks for the heads up about dill. Mine always reseeds in the same place so I will remember about the eggplant and peppers. Have a great day. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debbie. You have a great day too!
DeleteI just love your sweet little home. I had no idea about the dill! Who knew!
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
Thank you Pam. I know!
DeleteI have wanted a log cabin for as long as I can remember. We almost bought one last year but still don't know where we'll be retiring. Your tablecloth looks perfect in the dining area. I really like it!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Thank you Betsy. Bet you would love a log home. I pretty crazy about your travel trailer.
DeleteThere is a wonderful Children's book called "The Big Orange Splot" and in it a phrase is repeated: "My house is me and I am it and it looks like all my dreams".That fits you perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI've simply got to look up that book! I mean to do just that. Thank you Linda.
DeleteWow, you two have stayed busy inside and outside! I love those pictures of your beautiful home - it always looks so warm and loving, just as a home should look. I am always putting things where I won't lose or forget them and of course I always do forget them! I love your new tablecloth. Your dining room looks just perfect. You two are just re-decorating everything and it all looks great. Where do you get your energy? I could use a little! Take care of yourself. xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie. We have changed a few thing in the cabin, but it's about time. Thirty years with the same look is a long time! :) I'm sure enjoying it.
DeleteThe cabin looks so pretty in the setting sun. I really like the new tablecloth!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mari!
DeleteYour cabin looks nice in the sunlight!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that Diane.
DeleteI love seeing your home Henny, it has always been my dream to build a log home.
ReplyDeleteI remember when you stained the wood with the red, and was worried about the look, but it turned out perfect.
Your tablecloth is precious, my granddaughter had burlap runners on her wedding shower tables, with Mason jars, filled with simple wildflowers.
Stay safe dear friend.
Hugs
Jo
Thank you Jo. Oh gosh, I remember that day too. That redwood stain looked purple to me. I was horrifed. :)
DeleteIt's a beautiful red.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that about dill!
Thank you Sandi. Me either, about the dill.
DeleteYour house is beautiful! I love all of your picture frames. I love picture frames! We could not find any eggplants and had to plants the seeds we have little plants I hope they grow and have eggplants on them We love eggplants. It has rained so much we have had to replant tomatoes 3 times and had to replant beans, cucumbers and squash. Hopefully we will have a garden . Love you bunches!
ReplyDeleteThank you Vicki. I didn't know it had rained that much up that way. Having to replant that much is awful. Hope it all gets to growing now. You and Frank always grow such pretty vegetables...and persimmons! :) I hope the two eggplants here survive. Right now both look awful. Love you bunches too.
DeleteInteresting thing you did with dill.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red. I don't know a lot about things like that.
DeleteOh, your cabin is just gorgeous. I love dill but other plants don't! It is the same with fennel, it inhibits lots of plants.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I haven't seen Tiny Toadstool Cottage is a long time. Thank you for visiting. I didn't know that about fennel either.
DeleteYour red cabin looks amazing dear Henny Penny. Your new tablecloth is just perfect!! I did not know that about dill ... funny how we can use google for anything these days.
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie. What ever did we do before Google?
DeleteI love the "feel" of your dining area. I could be very comfortable there! I have a tiny bit of dill that I started indoors and have now stuck out in the garden. I hope it thrives. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenn. Hope your dill grows big and pretty.
Deletewow your little barn bathroom looks great! love the horse & mule pictures too! so how does the hall(?) look with the same paint?
ReplyDeletei love your log cabin/cottage, i think it fits in well with the surrounding bush & your gardens.
i don't think your teeny tiny garden is all that small either, it's a good size & can't wait to see it when everything is grown.
have been catching up with the rest of your posts & thoroughly enjoyed the tours around the gardens, your azaleas are amazing! also loved what you did with the birdbath, so creative!
thanx for sharing
Thank you so much Selina. We like the hall painted in the tan color. It turned out kinda pretty. I'll post a pictures when I get the pictures hung. I guess the gardenn is not really teeny tiny, but when I talk about gardening, I'm afraid folks who really garden, big time, will laugh at my tiny space. Thank you for visiting.
DeleteI so enjoyed your pictures today. Of course, I always click to enlarge each one. Your dining area is beautiful. And, of course, your cabin and yard is always so much fun to stroll through.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I certainly enjoy strolling through your yard, with all the beautiful flowers.
DeleteHi Henny- Smokey looks very much at home there- completely relaxed. I thought your Cabin-Cottage was brown- guess soem photos can be deceptive at times. Cheers. KEV.
ReplyDeleteHey Kev. Well the cabin used to be brown. It's built from cedar logs and for years and years, stayed a beautiful color. Even though we cared for the logs and applied CWF to protect them, the logs turned an ugly dark brown. It took a lot of nerve to stain the cabin with a redwood stain.
DeleteJust gone eight over here..into my second lemon tea,
ReplyDeletebit overcast, though we had rain yesterday..!
Busy out front to, lot of clearing to do, all a bit
overgrown..The Virginia Creeper goes mad out there..
Still..l can see out the window now! And the postman
can walk up the pathway..! Sound..! :).
I love the word 'rustic' to..love my pink, but also
rustic..l have my dinning room done out rustic, all
in Scandinavian pine..and similar colour to yours..
Love the light tan colour..Table looks lovely when
covered in a hand made/embroidered table cloth from
Sicily..All ready for a dinner party..!
Ah! Bless! Looks as though Smokey has been framed...! :o).

Me too! I love rustic! Your dining room sounds pretty. I do love embroidered cloths, and have a few. I entered the link but couldn't get it to work to hear the rest of the song. I did hear the entire hymn but can't remember who the four men were who sang it. Thank you Willie.
DeleteI think it was...The Statler Brothers..!
DeleteGrowing and drying your own dill,, sounds tasty for later cooking. I did learn years ago, when I
ReplyDeletecould garden without deer, that there are definitely veggies that do not like to be grown together.
I love Smokey protecting, of course what else, the wonderful old pictures.
Thank you Lynn. I don't know much about drying herbs and such but do enjoy things like that. Hope you and Precious are having a good week.
DeleteLove the red logs! My daughter has a 2 story log home in the hill country of Texas. The previous owner built it. They are on 8 acres and love it. And yes, cats can get comfortable anywhere!
ReplyDeleteThank you Rian. Oh, a two story log home in the hill country of Texas sounds perfect. Bet it is beautiful there. We have 5 acres here. Wish we had 25!
ReplyDeleteI did not know that about dill! It has always come up as it pleased in all my garden beds and I never noticed it being detrimental to it’s neighbors. Your decorating all looks so warm and welcoming. New paint always makes things so fresh and clean.
ReplyDeleteI love your home- the red logs are gorgeous. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI did not know that about dill. Thank you for sharing.
Love the photos of your home Henny.
Enjoy the weekend,
Carla
Your little cabin is SO LOVELY!
ReplyDeleteYour cabin is very pretty. And that's interesting about the dill! I only have it growing with other herbs, but I'm glad to know about the eggplant and peppers.

ReplyDeleteThe new addition of the tablecloth just finishes off that space beautifully. You are blessed with a beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love that song while at the same time it makes me feel sad...I love how you decorate.
ReplyDeleteYour home looks lovely in that evening light! I didn't know about the dill...I know some people freeze it if it is ready to pick before their cucumbers are ready to pickle:)

ReplyDeleteYour cabin is very pretty and cozy looking! It's great how just a table cloth can change the whole look of a room!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny...I love the photos of your beautiful home. The right light can really compliment, can't it. It looks so inviting. And Smokey....you are just like Wilson. He sleeps in the most ridiculous places. A few days back I found him resting on top of the bedroom door. Your dining table is so charming with the new tablecloth. You are right...it's worth waiting for the perfect one. I hope you are all well. We are doing fine and keeping very busy as I'm sure you are, too. June is moving along. xo
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to come and see what obstacle you're overcoming today!
ReplyDeleteYour cabin is catching a pretty red glow from the setting sun.
