Didn't mean to stay away so long. Have had several things going on...
Back pain, for one. Went in last Tuesday for another injection. Thank goodness for medication to take away pain so I can move about, and keep working...I am so looking forward to planting a little garden this spring.
Do you see Smokey...
That's him sitting on a stump, looking out across the cut-over. Would love to know what he is thinking. Probably like myself, wishing we had the trees back.
Yesterday was sunny and 58 degrees...a beautiful day!
Such strange weather we've had this winter. It's either been warm and raining, or freezing cold, windy, and sunny. This has been the WINDIEST winter ever!
Anyhow, a good day to clean out and repair all the many birdhouses scattered about...
the squirrels have been chewing on this one.
This one is my favorite. Looks like a rustic little house I might want to live in. Looks like there might be a wood stove inside.
or maybe this one Poppy built many years ago...
This one has five apartments!
and looking through the trees, way up to the teeny tiny garden is another big one...
and the little red Adirondack chair house...
Little wrens build in the most unusual places. I remember being with Aunt Berlie one summer day. We were going out to hang clothes on the line but discovered a Wren had built her nest inside the clothespin bag that was hanging on the back porch.
Aunt Berlie had one of those old green wringer type washing machines. It sat on the back porch too along with a tub or two. She would let me catch the clothes as they came through the wringer.
Anyhow...
The little house on the cedar tree was occupied last year by a family of flying squirrels. We never saw them during the day but at night, with a flashlight, could find them on the suet cakes.
This one needed a new bottom. Didn't cover all the birdhouses. Seems like there are a dozen scattered about.
Oh, let me tell you...when we first went outside it was still a little chilly. I was working on a panel in the greenhouse that the high winds had blown loose when Poppy walked up. "Have you been inside the greenhouse", I asked, motioning to him to come inside...
The little milk house heater was on. It was cozy and warm inside, and smelled good from the candle on the shelf. Poppy's response...his exact words..."damn Mel, when did you do all this? We could sleep out here".
I offered him a cup of tea. He laughed. "Will you ever grow up", he asked.
"Nope! Have no plans to any time soon".
So, since there is no roof over what I've been calling my "playhouse"...
this will now be the "potting area" and the teeny tiny greenhouse, the "playhouse".
Didn't mean to go on and on, and gosh! so many pictures. I'll understand if you checked out a while back.
Seriously, thank you for visiting. :)
Love,
Henny

we moved from the front porch. Maybe a little Wren will find it here.

I love your playhouse and how you could almost live out there, and my favorite thing is that you have so many birdhouses that Poppy lovingly maintains. I hope your back is feeling good.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about the birdhouses and your sweet playhouse. Your home looks like a magical place to me.
ReplyDeleteI would miss the trees too. We keep seeing huge swathes of trees cut down out here and it always saddens me.
When I was a child we had a wringer washer. Laundry was ONLY done on Mondays and it was an all day job. We would fill the washer and two rinse tubs. There was a stick for stirring the clothes. My Mom got a job outside the home when I was in 10th grade. The first thing they bought was an automatic washer. I was in love! Now I take it for granted. Women sure worked hard in years gone by!
I hope you and Poppy have a wonderful week.
Blessings,
Betsy
NO! Don't grow up..! You should never grow up..! :).
ReplyDeleteMy Dad..used to say to me.."Trouble with you boy, is
never grown up". Well..It did upset me in my early
teens, but twenty plus..up until the day he died, he
still said it..but by then, l used to take it as a
compliment..HeHe! I'm still in my youth..mentally
anyway! :).
Lovely bird boxes..especially the pink ones, the
birdies will be queuing up for that one..and what
a coincidence..l've just received a bird box..a red
one, just like a pillar box, except it has a hole
instead of a slit for the mail..so must get that up
fairly soon..! :). But, with the Virginia Creeper,
around my home, l get lots of Tits, Blue, Great etc..
Fudge loves them, watches them for hours..Naughty boy..! :(.
And, yes, we're having funny weather over here, wettest
February ever, but the warmest..it's effected lots of plants,
fruits etc..not good..! :(.
Many are suffering up North, floods etc..really bad..poor people,
and most without insurance, as the companies are'nt interested in
insuring them, because of regular flooding..!
Never to many pictures Henny..Never..Yours is about the Blog l go
back to the most..yours and Julie in New Zealand..two of my favourites
anyway..AND..I love seeing your pond/lake..still looking out for a torso! :o).
Nearly four o'clock over here, settling down for a bit of TV..l watch three
episodes of a program called..'Last of the Summer Wine'..it's nice and relaxing,
funny, and quite old now..it is still the longest running Sit~Com in the world..!
31 Series..295 Episodes..and it ran for 30yrs..! :). I love it...! :o).

Thank you Willie. Your comments are always special. Linda Reeder's comment says , if you haven't grown up yet there's no need to do it now. I agree. Let's don't do it now. :)
DeleteI love seeing all of your little birdhouses Henny, I wonder what makes a particular bird, makes up it's mind, with all those choices :)
ReplyDeleteYour little playhouse is sweet, and yes, I would delight in sitting there, and sharing a cup of tea with you !
Remember when I was in Rehab, with my broken ankles.... well I had my husband bring a small fan, and in front of it was a lovely white tea and fig candle. When the techs came in the room each day, they said it was the most lovely-smelling room in the whole facility, it made me smile :)
I see your daffodils are in bloom, Spring is on it's way, and I'm ready.
Hugs,
~Jo
Did Aunt Berlie move the nest?
ReplyDeleteNo Sandi, she left the clothespin bag hanging right where it was until the little birds left the nest. She made do without the clothespins. Thank you for visiting.
DeleteThere will be lots of bird songs around your yard this spring with the community of birds these houses will attract. I had very few birds come to my feeder this winter; I think because the big trees had to be taken down after a storm last spring. Maybe they felt less secure or something. Don't fret over the open field, because it doesn't take long for reforestation. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Well, except about your back; sure hope it's better already! I loved Poppy's question, "Will you ever grow up?" :~) I love our birds' houses that are scattered around the place. I wrote about them in my last post.
ReplyDeleteNo one could ever check out on your blog. You have the best blog ever. I love all the birdhouses. I love your little green house/playhouse. One day I am going to have one. I am so ready for the weather to break and spring to come and time to change!!! Countdown to March 8Th Yay!!!! I have had the wrens to build a nest in my clothespin hanger while hanging on the clothes line while the clothes dry. They are fast. I was just thinking the other day I never hang clothes out anymore. I have gotten lazy and just let the dryer do the job LOL. Well that and the fact that my clothesline is in the shade now. Oh well. I love you bunches and there is no rules that say we have to ever grow up!!
ReplyDeleteDo what makes you happy! I would love a little space like that!
ReplyDeletePlease don't ever 'grow up'. I like you just the way you are. My DH's sisters are visiting from out of province and my latest Teddy Bear had to be brought out and introduced to them. They may have thought I should grow up too!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the greenhouse becoming your playhouse and the other area the potting area. I plugged in a little heater when I was tidying my garden shed and also the shop vacuum. Seems the breaker wasn't meant for both to be on. I had to clean up with no heat and no vacuum. :(
Oh miss henny, just stay as you are. The world is full of dull grown ups!
ReplyDeleteYou have made yourself a delightful cozy nest in the woods,a lovely place to be and dream.
Sorry about losing your trees. I'm going though the same thing, they have cut acres of them around here
To,but they did replant them all. Our response was to plant more on our land.
Have a a wonderful spring!
Thank you Savannah. Maybe I should plant a few new trees too. Hope you have a wonderful spring too. It's getting close!
DeleteOh I just love it! Don't you dare grow up Henny! We love you exactly like you are! I love all the bird houses and your wonderfully redecorated green house. It's all just so special and fun and happy! And Henny, you take care of that back and don't overdo anything!
ReplyDeleteI love your greenhouse/tea house story! Cozy hideaways out of doors are the best. I bet Poppy knows that!
ReplyDeleteI hope your back pain goes away, Henny.
Oh you make the nicest coziest little spaces. I love them all.
ReplyDeleteThe chair bird house is the cutest thing!!
NEVER GROW UP!!! I'm sure Poppy loves just the way you are! I want to come to tea...what a precious little cocoon...take care of your back...still follow your blog and love it dearly! Diana
ReplyDeleteThank you Dianna. Please do come for tea. I would love that!
DeleteNEVER GROW UP!!! I'm sure Poppy loves just the way you are! I want to come to tea...what a precious little cocoon...take care of your back...still follow your blog and love it dearly! Diana
ReplyDeleteGood on you two for providing so many bird houses for nests.
ReplyDeleteSo many bird houses! It's a happy place for them.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't grown up yet, there's no need to do it now. Keep on having fun!
ReplyDeleteYour place outside is so cozy:) You will have lots of birds!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute blog. Sorry to hear about your back...but hope you're feeling fit as a fiddle soon! Love all your bird houses and I especially love your husband's comments in that cozy space. How cute!
ReplyDeleteYour little greenhouse/playhouse is so cute, and so is the outside potting area! Good job! We don't want you to grow up ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of birdhouses
ReplyDeleteI'm a little confused about what is your greenhouse and what is your playhouse, but it all looks just charming. And like your hubby, I'm happy you are NOT growing up :) So many birdhouses! It's kind of you both to give the birds a safe place to have babies. Glad your back pain is better! Chronic pain is so awful.
ReplyDeleteYou have some great bird houses. It's not warm enough for us to go out to check ours for necessary cleaning and repairs. I fear the birds will be using them before we can do it. We still have ice on our pond, even though this has been a record setting mild winter.
ReplyDeletexx, Carol
I think Smoky is saying, Why the heck did the Humans do THAT! I love your bird houses. My dad made many cute ones for me but they are all gone now and we have been looking for just the right new one. We do have a bluebird house and every year the bluebirds check it out, carry on around it and put in a few sticks for a couple days, and then go away. We are puzzled about what it is they don’t like and haven’t figured it out after four springs of watching them come and go.
ReplyDeleteThe potting area is so pretty and inviting and I would love to sit down in the green chair and have a cuppa with you! Is that an Ohuhu stove? We love ours!
Love this post, Henny! I love it especially when you Poppy was so awed over your little cozy greenhouse, now playhouse? Never grow up, Henny, you are wonderful and precious to us as you are. Its going to be spring soon! Terry
ReplyDeleteHenny, hope the injection has helped. I had to do those a few times in the past. Eventually the back got better.
ReplyDeleteI do acpuncture and massage monthly. I see Smokey outside there, listening to the birds I bet. Precious is in
her tent hiding from the dark and rain outside. My hubby has built 2 new wren boxes, but not nice enough to go
outside and hang them! The bluebirds are already trying to decide which of 2 boxes to use. Keep posting those
lovely pictures of the warm she-shed and daffodils!
Oh my gosh it really looks like spring around your home, Henny!! It's making it's way here, but slowly as ever.
ReplyDeleteYou have so many birdhouses to keep track of. I love the birdsong, and their houses are darling little things, but I've never done something like this. Maybe it's time I gave myself permission to be a kid, again, huh? I believe it was your previous post that inspired me to go out into nature-- and I put the tablet away all set to head out...until I came up with one excuse after the other not to. Story of my life! Staying a kid at heart is a healthy sign of self-love or something. That's how I view it, anyway. I'm sure Poppy loves you because of your ability to play and enjoy the simple things in life. Oh but you do work hard! Take good care and God bless you all, : )
ReplyDeleteI love all the creative birdhouses. We have several birdhouses too. We cleaned ours in December. I am in hopes my son will build me a few more this Spring.
ReplyDeleteI spied some Daffodils in your photos. My favorite Spring flower.
Say "Hi to Poppy" !!
Love your chatty posts with pictures!💖
ReplyDeleteA joy to visit and see what you have been up to. Sorry to read about your back and the pain. Hope the injections are working. Lovely to see so many little bird houses and off course the play houses such fun.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing your birdhouses. Are not the wrens just the sweetest little birds!! I had one visit me all last summer when I was on the deck. Hope your back gets better soon. So enjoyed my visit. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteSoon they will be singing sweet little songs for you in their happy little houses. Hope you are feeling fine and can get out to your garden.
ReplyDeleteNo, never grow up! Have fun and enjoy! I love the idea of a cozy green house with a pot of water for instant coffee or tea. Love it. I go out to the girls playhouse and cut on the little Coleman heater and it's just so cozy. Home away from home. Love all your birdhouses. Sorry you are having pain in your back. Is it arthritis? I get aching in my hips and legs sometimes and in lower back, it will get better as the day goes on or with Tylenol if it don't.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will feel well enough to plant a garden too.
Betsy
What lucky little birdies to find such luxury bed and breakfasts on your Farm. I love feeding the birds out my window and seeing the different ones..Spring is in the air soon..Have a blessed weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteSad about the trees and Smokey looking for them. 🙁
ReplyDeleteI can't remember, why did you have them removed? I will scroll back and see if you mentioned it in a previous post.
Yes, I see your little Smokey.........what happened to all of the trees? Love the birdhouses and how much I love your greenhouse and playhouse area! I also loved your snow photos from your past post!
