Hey, I thought the sun was supposed to shine today. Well, it's not! In fact, it's very cloudy and dreary again, and COLD. I got up this morning feeling half way happy and now it's cloudy and dreary again, and COLD! Call me Charlie Brown.
I need the sun to help counteract this depressing Coronavirus scare. I need the sun to keep me outside and out of refrigerator.
Anyhow, think I told you we've been changing the living room around a bit, and wouldn't you know it, not one good "before" picture can I find. Anyhow...
Here's the new bookcase and Poppy's new gun cabinet. What a difference these two pieces have made.
You see, this was the old 7' high gun cabinet from the 1970's. It was a corner cabinet without a cornet to sit in, and took up lots of our walking space.
in fact, this is the wall where the old gun cabinet used to sit. We now have two wall lamps, a picture, and of course...a deer head.
and now there's room to walk between the chair and the wall, and get to the back door.
Next was this big oversize cabinet...
we used for a bookcase.
and now...
our new smaller bookcase.
Also taking up lots of floor space was the old sewing machine...
there was no room anywhere else in the house but here, for this big antique machine to sit. I kinda liked it here with an old embroidered dresser scarf and an old lamp, but Poppy said he had always hated it here. So now...
we have matching end tables. Yep, there's one on the other end of the couch too, and a Dumperoo. We had to buy a small rug to cover up four deep rusty holes from the wheels on the old sewing machine. Guess it came from shampooing the carpet and moving the machine back before the carpet was completely dry. :(
This next piece, the giant coffee table, well, we both had heart strings attached to this piece...
this huge coffee table. Poppy built this table himself, with wood pieces a friend gave him, also back in the 1970's. This table was almost as long as the sofa...
So we searched and searched for another coffee table. I was cooking supper one night when Poppy appeared. "Mel", he said, "I have found the one! You've got to come and see". It was online...
"Oh wow", I said, "It's perfect". Legs made of logs and tile inlay on top..."deer" tile inlay on top!!
turns out, this table was two inches shorter than what was advertised. Maybe a little too small but we're keeping it. Need to center it more and find another large basket in the right color...and move the rooster pillow.
We also added a wall lamp on the wall behind the sofa. We moved out four table lamps from this one room. "four"!
this is it so far. Are you completely overwhelmed?
Trouble is...now we need a new sofa and chair, and trouble is...not just any sofa and chair will do! We want a big soft set made from real cowhides, creamy and rich in color. We keep looking online. There are some beauties out there but expensive!
This old leather set we bought in 1991 or 1992. It has been through a lot, but we have sure enjoyed it. Oh my gosh! Go online to Adobe Interiors to see the furniture of my dreams.
I need to end this and get busy! Sorry for going on and on. Sure appreciate your visiting though!
Love,
Henny

How pretty you are redecorating!!! Hopefully the sun shines and you can enjoy the great outdoors...be safe Henny, Poppy and critters!
ReplyDeleteWow, Henny, it must feel like a whole new space to you now!!! I just swapped out pillow covers and throws last weekend and I'm still getting used to it, it feels so fresh and new! I'm enjoying the order to work from home right now, I always feel I never have enough time here. Would be nice if I could do this more often, for sure! Cold here today too, I couldn't get warm after my shower. Spring will be here soon though, can't wait!
ReplyDeleteWhen you begin to rearrange and get new furniture you do it right!! You have totally transformed your living room.I'm amazed.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw that little rug under the end table I thought to myself What a great idea having a splash of colour right there. Who'll ever know what it's hiding?
I'm sorry your weather is dreary. After so many cold and dull days we have finally got sunshine. I'm off to play outside now. (((hugs)))
Wow! Bet you have a lot more floor room. Looks great.
ReplyDeleteI have my grandmother's sewing machine and cabinet which is exactly like yours. It does take up lots of space, but I can't part with it. Your living room is looking so nice. You will enjoy the extra space! It is another dreary and cloudy day here. A fire is still burning in the wood stove. I can't help feeling rather gloomy, myself!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, happy post! Just what is needed. You two are enjoying redecorating and doing a great job of it. Hope you get some sunny, warmer weather soon. Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady
ReplyDeleteOur day started sunny and turned cloudy and dreary too.
ReplyDeleteNice job moving things around and that new coffee table looks perfect for your cabin!!
Your new purchases look great! Hope you get sunshine soon!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so nice! You've done a good job.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby has made us furniture too and it always makes it hard when you decide to change it.
Well, you have certainly been having fun redecorating! That's a good way to handle having to be stuck at home. It all looks great.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so cosy & comfy dear Henny Penny. A good time of year to be inside changing things around while the weather is not nice outdoors.
ReplyDeleteYou have made some great purchases and your room looks so inviting and cozy and comfortable. Just don't get lost in all that extra space :)
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so nice and fresh. I would have had a hard time getting rid of the sewing machine and coffee table...or did you keep them and just move them elsewhere. I love wall lamps. We have them in all of our bedrooms, just like in hotels. They work so well and don't take up valuable space. Your furniture looks amazingly good for it's age. You obviously take good care of it.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Every thing looks so good. Book cases with orderly books. I mean, my book case has books no where near this neat and sitting straight on the shelves. That is a nice gun cabinet too. Always feels good to buy new things and refresh. I guess I will get to work and do some re arranging here and cleaning. I just wish I could get rid of the aches and pains I am having right now. Gonna be in the 60's Tuesday and raking is something that needs to be done too.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great! Isn't it fun to change things up. I have my Grandmother's old treadle machine and it does take up room but I love it. I learned how to sew on that machine. Enjoy all that new furniture!
ReplyDeleteHas to be said..l'm one of the old school...
ReplyDeleteLove the old style furniture..especially wood..!
Old style settees/sofas etc..It always looks so
warm and homely..modern furniture is o.k. But
there's nowt like sitting on an nice warm settee,
in front of a roaring fire..in the winter time! :).
Everything you've show us Henny is simply lovely..
It's similar to my home..AND..l always call it a
home..never a house..a house is just wood/bricks/
and mortar..it's what you make of it inside that
counts..HeHe! Just get a cat..AND..you've got a
home..Bingo! :o).
We're still allowed out over here, with this virus
scare..though places have closed, advising people
not to mix..and..like most places, we've idiots
panic buying..empty shelves..selling out of toilet
paper..so..if you run out..what's wrong with newspapers!
At least you'll have summat to read at the same time...!
Seriously though..everyone should take care...!
AND..Don't forget to wash yer hands..Oh! And yer feet...! :o).
😼 🐾🐾 😼 🐾🐾 😼 🐾🐾 😼 🐾🐾 😼 🐾🐾 😼 🐾🐾 😼
Willie! As usual, you made me laugh and I'm glad for it. Good point about newspapers, haha! I had come up with: washing yourself or cloth wipes. Needless to say, lack of TP is the least of our problems! Wish you stay cheerful, as well as healthy! Love your perspective
DeleteThankyou Pilar..Thankyou!
DeleteI always like to see the funny side of life..
I have a choice of four assorted toilet rolls
in my..now famous..downstairs toilet..even
newspaper, cut into squares, and threaded threw
onto pink ribbon..I have just recently sent Henny,
and a few of my contacts, a close up of said paper,
along with up date photos of said famous toilet..!
HeHe! Bless!x
Furniture has become very expensive these days.
ReplyDeleteHi Henny- Thanks for showing us around your Home - it all looks very homely. Reminds me of a Cottage we stayed at on a Dairy Farm near Milton (NSW, Australia)- very country feel to it with oodles of charm. Best Wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteYou have me drooling over both your old and your new! We should be moving across country this summer. A moving van would cost $10,000. It took me a bit, but I am used to the idea now of getting a U-Haul ($2500) and leaving most of my furniture behind. $10,000 could replace my living room furniture which is ready to die anyway. Hope you find the new sofa set you are looking for. Just like that coffee table it will pop up when you least expect it. For me, that's usually when my bank is broke, lol.
ReplyDeletexx, Carol
Thank you for sharing the inside of your lovely and warm looking home, Henny.
ReplyDeleteYour style is so fitting for the log cabin! Even Dumperoo looks like he wants
to keep the sofa you already have. But I bet he would help break in a new one some day.
Stay healthy. Every thing is such a mess now, including our crazy weather every where!
Melba, your home is so warm and inviting. I love all your wooden furniture and if you sold the large piece and sewing machine, no doubt, you got some good cash for it! I salivate for the large cabinet and would totally use it for my darling books, too. However, the new pieces really look elegant and thankfully take up less space. It is gloomy grey and surprisingly snowing here, this morn. What a dreary time this is, but do keep posting. I think we need you more than ever. Peace and love and many many blessings to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pilar. Actually, we have listed the big cabinet, sewing machine, and a few other thongs on Craigslist. The gun cabinet sold really quick. I was just reading your and Willie's comments. Don't you just love him. He sure makes me smile.
DeleteHey Henny! Loved your living room both ways, but that bookcase looks mighty fine. I am sure its really nice, and suits your lifestyle now. You work way too hard. I love a beautiful butter yellow leather sofa and chair set my neighbor has, but it was expensive, but very warm and toasty effect in winter, cool in the summer. I hope you find what you like, its beautiful. You too worked so hard! Love Terry
ReplyDeleteY'all did a huge amount of work! It looks amazing, and I know it must feel WONDERFUL to have that much more space to walk around. We have a small house, and every inch counts!! It looks lovely. Can't wait to see your new couches when you get them :)
ReplyDeleteNow I feel inspired to get outside. The rain has stopped. Peas need to go in the soil. Love to you.
Everything looks great! Good leather furniture is so expensive! Have you checked out estate sales or consignment shops? You'll find the perfect pieces eventually!
ReplyDeleteThank you Diane. I'll have to look for estate sales and consignment shops. That's a good idea. Any leather furniture found in thrift stores look worse than what we are using now. :)
DeleteDear friend - I adore your new wood furniture. You know how to make everything feel so inviting. Makes me want to come visit and put my feet up with Dumperoo of course - Take care and have a delightful day. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteAll your wood furniture is lovely. You have some lovely pieces there. I must admit as an Australian seeing those guns in the glass cabinet was a little confronting as we don't really have a lot of guns here but there in the US it is your everyday existence isn't it. Your living room does look so comfy and cosy. Love all those books in the bookshelf.
ReplyDeleteYou are making many beautiful changes and additions in your home. It looks great. I recently bought a leather recliner, made of real leather and made in the USA. I learned that it is legal to call ground up leather mixed with resin leather, yikes. Only real leather will do for us! That gun case is very handsome and useful.
ReplyDeleteYou have a stunning home!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, Henny! So cozy. Hope you have been able to get outside the last couple days. They’ve been really nice here.
ReplyDeleteI have that same dark brown rug in my living room. :-)
ReplyDeleteStay healthy my friend.
I started to set up my seed starting area.
Carla
You have been busy! Everything looks so good...I wish I could change things around. in this house but even if there was a way to do it, Roger just is not capable any more. I don't have a coffee table...I try one every now and then, but just cannot stand one here.
ReplyDeleteOh the corner cabinet...I know it is gun cabinet. I just want to say that I love corner cabinets but the way things are now, I don't have room for one in any room.
It all looks so nice...isn't it amazing how swapping out a few pieces of furniture can make such a difference? Great job!
ReplyDeleteOh that all looks so nice!! Such a pleasure to just look at normal things going on- I LOVE that big old bookcase-if I lived closer I'd make an offer! Thank you Henny for cheering me up here!
