My goodness! Two new followers! Thank you Vanessa and Amela! and I have been so slack about posting. Thank you for not "unfollowing" before I could get back.
If only I could stay out of the teeny tiny garden there would be more time for the computer. Been a full time job keeping the garden watered in this hot dry weather we are having, like 97 degrees right now.
and then those Fordhook Lima bean plants decided to take off growing with long runners trying to reach over to the green bean vines...so I made a fast trip to Lowes for another bundle of 5' stakes.
Pretty much got all the plants growing up now instead of sprawling out. It all looks nice enough, now if it will product a few vegetables.
Want to show you a weed that came up right along side the lilies I planted around the bird bath last spring...
this is Spiderwort. The stalk has grown bigger now and has several blooms. I kinda like it. and all those lilies I planted are fixing to bloom.
and this wild blueberry grows between the house and Poppy's shop...
It is almost a tree. It was growing here when we bought this little piece of property 30 years ago and we just could not cut it down.
The berries are tiny but sweet and delicious. On my way to the garden I stop and pick a few for a taste, but mostly the birds get them and that's okay. One summer I did pick enough berries to make a cobbler.
and another project keeping me busy...
dividing and re-potting hostas and iris, and potting up cuttings that have rooted.
isn't this funny...did you notice Weetie sleeping under the bench in the last picture? Well here's the other side of that bench. These iris are in pitiful shape.
running out of room, I found this old wobbly bench to hold more pots...this is just outside the playhouse.
and just inside the playhouse...
in that birdhouse on the top shelf is a little Wren sitting on teeny tiny eggs.
I tread easily going in and out of the greenhouse and it's sweet how she watches me. As long as I do not make eye contact with her she is fine, but if I look, she flies away. So we have a little agreement about this.

Everything is looking great in your garden and flowerbeds! Spiderwort is lovely but out here at least, it invades spreading both by seeds and underground roots. I still keep it but try to cut around it with a spade to contain it. Besides purple I have a pink one.

I assume you must be watering your garden everyday since no rain in sight in our neck of the woods, it becomes a chore in itself, but you can't let everything dry up, so really not much choice.

ReplyDeleteSo funny about the wren! Birds are smart. We have geese. When my husband sees them he scares them off. Now when he goes outside they waddle away. When I go outside they just sit there because I don't mind them. They know!
Dry? We're so wet nothing gets planted; I'm afraid there won't be much garden produce this year. You've probably seen on the national news about the flooding of the Arkansas river. We aren't close enough to be flooded but it affects us all.
ReplyDeleteThe spiderwort is a very pretty flower, but be forewarned, it takes over the flower beds and is almost impossible to get rid of. It has big, deep roots. I know first hand. :)

I am catching up now to with everyone as I to have been out in my gardens and enjoying the season all though we aren't as hot or humid as we should be this time of year we actually have been cooler and very damp and wet here . We who garden know that it takes up much of our time as we also love it to and don't have much time to sit let alone put a post for our bogs together lol . ReplyDeleteYour vegetable garden looks great! Our nesting wrens and chickadees have fledged, flown the coop. They often have a second family. We'll see.

Your garden looks so good and I'm sure you will get lots of yummy meals out of it! I do believe Weetie has found a cool spot to nap and I know that is not easy in the summertime. All my flowers 'stay' in the garden, none are ever cut,
and put into silly vases on the windowsill..! They are
'exactly' where they belong...! :).

We have had some warm days but the odd day of rain means that watering is minimal. Your garden is looking lush and I know just how much work it takes. I have a good set of strawberries and other soft fruit, plum trees are laden but the apples are hit and miss this year.

ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty, Melba. I had a little area that I was enjoying but then the rains came and everything is pretty much flooded and water-logged. I love that little Weetie! I'm kind of like her, you know. I can take a nap just about anywhere!

I keep going back to take another look at your wonderful looking vegetable garden...well, it's really that wattle fence I am most interested in. You said earlier that you thought it was your best yet. Yes, no doubt, even Tasha Tudor would have to admire that one. We are still getting lots of rain here. I have only had to get my garden hose out once this year, and that was awhile back. I am having a hard time of staying ahead of the weeds. I don't see a single one in your pristine gardens!

Tomorrow here is the first day of Winter and already it has been very cold with snows falling to the north at Katoomba and south at Kosiosko...thankfully the cold winds off the snow has ceased for the moment. ReplyDeleteI’m glad you and Mrs Wren have an agreement and she allows you to pass in and out. I love spiderwort’s little purple-blue flowers. We had three days of 101 degrees but the last couple days have been a bit nicer. Hope yours have, too!
ReplyDeleteHi Henny: I have a little wren nesting in one of our houses, too. Right where I garden and can watch her come and go. I adore these little birds with the big song. You sure are having summer weather there. We are lucky to get three days in a row of warm sun and then it rains again. I am wondering how my little veggie garden will do with so little sun. Hoping June will be better. I love your blueberry bush. Did you know there are almost 50 kinds of blueberry bushes? I need to plant a few as I eat them everyday. The birds would hate me. lol Hope all is well and enjoy those hot summer days. Love to Poppy and all the littles. xo
