Have you ever seen a prettier place for vendors to sell their crafts? This is the "Pork, Pickles, and Peanuts" event at the Duke Homestead in Durham that Shelby and I attended on Saturday...
and way, way back there, where you can see folks milling around is the Duke homestead, the old wooden fence, and tobacco growing in the field. Back there too was where the barbecue cook-off and pie competition were being held.
I really wanted to walk around and take pictures of the homestead (now can't you just see me doing that) but we simply did not have time, so I borrowed a picture off the internet. It took all the nerve I could muster up to walk far enough away from our table to get the two pictures that I did. Seriously.
Aww, that's my sweet daughter Lynn. She stopped in to see us.
So, now I've got plenty of catching up to do, not only blogging, but sewing and doll making. All my little country dolls sold on Saturday. Yay!
Would you believe that Poppy now has a "to do" list? He sure does, and has been steady marking stuff off.
One item was putting up a new clothesline for me. He got that done first thing this morning.
He put the new line way up high. Said it needed to be high to hold the heavy stuff. Why, I had to stand on my tip-toes to hang this little load of whites. Oh, by the way, MK, that's one of my many white (thrift store) skirts on the line. MK blogs at throughaglass,darkly.blogspot.com and like myself, she loves white skirts. I love her blog! Is there still going to be a white skirt club?
The little goat barn has been leaking lately, every time it rains...so Poppy got the new tin roof put on. Something else marked off his list.
Guess that's about it for now. Oh, I was surprised to see two new followers, Debra and Beca. Thank you so much. So, I'm hoping to be back soon.
Love,
Henny
My house roof leaked today. Didn't know it until Daisy told me. Water got behind the paint in the bathroom and pretty considerable bubble of paint was holding the water until I broke it. I can fix the interior part, but I'll have to probably call a handyman to fix the roof leak. Not much of a heights person and I never fixed a roof before.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that surely is one of the prettiest spots in which to set up a stall. How fabulous you were too busy to chat....that must mean that everyone loved your gorgeous creations and went home with one or two. Love the pretty white frillies hanging on the line.
ReplyDeleteI need to make a to do list. I have so many things that I want to do but never accomplish anything. I feel like all I do is exercise cooking and canning. Oh well I guess that is enough. Love you bunches
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you sold so many of your lovely dolls and things at the craft fair. It does look all shady and inviting under trees.
ReplyDeleteMy mother once said that one could tell a lot about a woman by her "wash" hanging on a line. I think she would have been impressed with yours, for those whites are just gorgeous! Congrats on a successful show!
ReplyDeleteLooks as though you had a great! Great! day...
ReplyDeleteAnd the weather looked great to...and you sold
lots...Well done! :).
But then..like a pussy~cat, a home should'nt be
without a doll..of some kind anyway! Bless!
The washing line made me chuckle..my old Grandma,
used to hang her old fashion undergarments on hers!
And she always had a name for them..'Passion~Killers'.
I used to say to her..."Hello Granny..l see you've got
your passion~Killers on the line"...HeHe! :).
Being polite..they where on the 'large' size..! :).
And..Poppy sitting on the goat barn reminded me of an
old film...'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'...HeHe! Bless!
Well..coming up to seven in the morning over here, and, l
have'nt had my first lemon tea of the day yet...
So best be off! (=ඒᆽඒ=)
I could'nt get through to the above site...
Deletethroughaglass,darkly.blogspot.com
But l could on this....

Good for you for such a successful sale. You might need to recruit an assistant next time so you can get away to see more of the other fun stuff.
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled and not the least bit surprised that you did so well. I have a list but not a lot is been ticked off it at the moment.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on doing so well at this event and for Poppy crossing things off of his to do list. That always feels great.
ReplyDeleteHappy Creating and living life ~ FlowerLady
What a lovely place to sell your art! I adore places like that-we have one not too far from us-Mumford. It's a whole town made of houses and stores, churches, etc., that were moved to that spot to be reconstructed into a living history village. I love your whites on the line-and I'm so glad to hear you're a thrift store shopper! Me too!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you had such a good time selling your goods and crafts! I knew you would, everyone loves a craft fair and with such cute dolls I can't imagine you not selling them. Did you sell any aprons? I need to order some from you for gifts, cause my neighbor 'borrowed' mine with the rickrack trim and it is not being returned, so.... Anyway, glad Poppy working on the to do list. Love and Happy Crafting! Terry
ReplyDeleteI'll join the white skirt club! I love skirts and buy all mine at the thrift shop but haven't really looked into white ones, mostly because I'm usually in the market for choring skirts which end up very stained and dirty. So glad you did so well at this event. It's exciting when that happens!
ReplyDeleteYou sold out your wares, wow! No wonder you didn't have time for photography. We have a Honey-Do l list -- for both of us. It seems things happen much faster if your intentions are staring at you every time you open the fridge!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful setting for your sale, shade is always welcomed in summertime.
ReplyDeleteThat is one gorgeous homestead, I wouldn't have been able to resist seeing inside, how special !
Well done Poppy, welcome to retirement, where the lists get longer :)
Do you have a clothes prop like we use in England ? A long wooden pole with a notch in the end to hold up the clothes line ?
Love that picture of Lynn, she's a beautiful young lady, just like her momma.
Hugs,
~Jo
I love that photo of the kids frolicking on the lawn!
ReplyDeleteOh Henny this looks like a great event. Yeah for your sales too! I just love craft fairs...such fun to see all those creative endeavors. Love your clothes on the line...looks like it could be my backyard! Have a super day.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that you had good sales, my friend! Yay for Poppy having a "to do" list. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you did well at the craft sale and your clothes hanging on the line look wonderful. So pretty:)
ReplyDeleteGlad you sold the dolls. That must have made your time worth being busy. Your poppy has done a fabulous job. Don't we love checking things from a list. :):) Cute daughter looks like mommy. :) Blessings to all, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had great weather for the sale. So happy that it was a success and you sold lots of stuff.
ReplyDeleteNice clothes line and it looks so nice with all the whites hanging on it.
Oh I love attending events like this! Looks so fun! Your daughter Lynn is gorgeous! I love the beautiful clothesline picture, I have always loved clotheslines and still prefer to hang our wash instead of using the dryer. Oh yes!--I would love to join the white skirt club! I have two.Like you, I pick up pretty skirts at the thrift stores often. Hope you are having a great week!
ReplyDeleteYay for good sales! Your whites look pretty hanging on the line!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear that you had a good sale! Husbands with lists are a good thing:)
ReplyDeleteI am so happy sales are doing well. :-) YAY!!
ReplyDeleteI wore my cherry apron to the Fresh Cut Flower workshop I did. Everyone said how cute it was. :-) Thank You again .. you do make lovely items Henny.
xx oo
Carla
How nice that all your dolls sold. That must make you feel talented and good.
ReplyDeletePoppy and my husband have lists in common. Bill always has a to do list going and I think he likes the marking off part so much that he goes around just looking for things to put on it. How lucky is that for me?
Glad you had such a good day at the homestead event in Durham. I admire your sewing abilities,as my own are limited to minor bits of hemming and the occasional bit darning with my sewing machine. I love the white skirts. When I was 22, I had a prairie skirt that I wore with a white lace trimmed petticoat that I loved so much.
ReplyDeleteHi, HP!! Yes, there is a White Skirt Club, and we are it!! :) Haha, doesn't it feel good to belong to club where you have no more responsibilities than to wear the white skirts you love already. Well, if I think up any more things we should do as a club, I'll let you know. If I get over your way ever, I'll stop by, wearing my white skirt, and we can take a twirly-whirl in your yard :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited about your great sales at the event!!! That's wonderful. It's so gratifying to sell all your stuff and realize people want and love it, and have to go make more. Good for you!!
This looks like such a fun place to visit, and with a craft sale it would be even better! Glad you did well. I love all the whites on the line.
