At the fair, but wait...

Friends, I could not sleep last night because of my posting yesterday about being a Virgo and feeling like everything was undone and out of order because of spending the day at the fair.

Shelby said, on the phone last night, you probably won't have time come back over, since going to the fair put you so far behind with your work. I was joking!!

Sorry if I came across as sounding like the busiest, hardest working woman in the world, always with too much to do. I'm a Virgo with OCD-like tendencies!!  That in itself keeps me busy! Why, it's a full time job keeping magazines stacked evenly and towels hung straight and colored plastic hangers sorted by color and size. I can spot a crooked picture on a wall a mile away! So that's what keeps me so far behind with my work. :)

My blogging friends, you are some of the hardest working people I know, and I appreciate you all so much!

Now about my sorry picture taking at the fair.

We did see the world's heaviest watermelon

 and the sweetest baby donkey

and the baby donkey's mama.

Wonder what struck me to take this picture out of all the busy midway eating places and rides there were to pick from?

It was a wonderful trip to the fair and the day went by waaaay too fast! Oh my gosh! The food we ate...starting with roasted corn on the cob dipped in butter. Then fried dough covered in powdered sugar, and a big crispy fried blooming onion, a muscadine grape slushy, chocolate covered North Carolina peanuts, a large cup of NC State ice cream...butter almond, and free samples of all the foods in the "Got to be NC Agriculture" building. But wait, all is good! Shelby was wearing her "Fitbit" and informed me that we had walked a total of five miles while at the fair.

Okay, after all this explaining, I need to get busy. :) I have big plans for our day at the state fair next year...riding the hobby horses and taking great pictures!

Love,
Henny

  1. Great post and photos, Henny Penny. Don't worry about OCD. Most of us are OCD to some degree. You are prolific in posting, and every post is great!

  2. I understand being a Virgo myself, sometimes we can only do what we can do! I usually decide in the morning what are three things that must be done during the day and IF I get more done....that is great!! :)

  5. Henny, it was obvious you were joking. I got a kick out of it. As for your OCD tendencies...I have only black hangers in one size. That way, you don't have to size them or color code them. I really recommend the organizing I featured a while back: The Life Changing Magic Of Tiding Up. My daughter is a super neat Virgo too, and yet the book made a world of difference to her. It's only $11 (we bought it at Costco) The thing you will learn from the book is how to downsize your possessions in a spectacular way by getting rid of the guilt over not keeping perfectly good stuff. Highly recommend it.

    1. Thank you! I can probably order it at Amazon. I have the book name written down. It sure sounds like something I need to read, and I like the idea of black hangers.

  7. I don't think as long as I have lived here in NC that I have ever gone to the State Fair. Raleigh isn't just down the road but it sure does look like fun. I work with a guy who lives in Raleigh and was there over the weekend. Did you eat the deep fried peanut butter & pickle thingy? I would have almost made the trip for that...lol!

    1. Oh Debby, would you have tried the deep fried peanut butter pickle? We need to try something different. Every year Shelby and I eat the same foods. We grew up going to the fair and honestly, we just love it and look forward to going every year. You need to go! :)

  8. Interesting to note the different timing of the State Fair. Our's in Michigan is always around Labor Day. Too late in the season here for full crop displays. I'm hoping the baby donkey was being well taken care of!

    1. Janet, I wanted that baby donkey! It really was being looked after. All the animals had clean bedding and water to drink. I worry about things like that too. They were in such a cozy little area.

  12. The pumpkins and giant watermelon are wonderful! It's funny how the watermelon looks like it got so heavy it squished in on itself. I'm surprised you didn't bring that sweet little baby donkey right home with you!

    1. Oh Cynthia, if there had been any to carry that baby out, I would have! I'm putting "baby donkey" on my Christmas list again this year. I wonder how they got those big watermelons and pumpkins inside and arranged.

  13. Oh Henny Penny, you are just too hard on yourself! You do so much and love all your animals so, no wonder you have a lot to do. None of us judged you for what you wrote. At Rivercrest Cottage uses only black hangers of one size and I use only white ones. Aren't we a funny bunch. If you looked in my kitchen cupboard that holds my many coffee mugs you would find all of them with the handles lined up just right. When my DH puts one away I have to go 'fix' it so it's the same as the others. See? We can have an OCD contest to see who is the worst!!

    1. Hey Granny Marigold! That is so funny about your coffee mugs. Thank you for telling me. We really are a funny bunch! My husband always puts the orange juice and milk cartons in the refrigerator backwards. Keeps me busy turning stuff around the right way...canned good in the cabinets and things in the frig. I wonder why he doesn't accidentally put something away right every now and then. :)
