In the woods with Poppy

Friends, I have not had a minute to post anything! As you know Poppy is on vacation. At the moment he is taking a quick nap in his chair in front of the TV, so here I am.

and in the woods is where we were early this morning. Poppy's deer feeder had stopped throwing out corn. He needed my help so I agreed.  About all I did was help hold the barrel of corn while Poppy strapped it to the tree. It took a good hour.

Keeping an eye out for a bear, I walked into what felt like a clothesline strung from tree to tree...I backed up and saw this thing. Can you imagine getting this spider tangled up in your hair! Shiver! I should have saved this picture for my Halloween post.

Poppy has cleared out a neat little path through the woods, just wide enough for the four wheeler.

Friends, I do not like deer season. I worry myself sick over the poor deer. Thank goodness, Poppy does not shoot every deer that walks past. He enjoys the stillness of the woods and watching the wildlife as much as anything. He waits for that trophy buck to wander past...and most of the time that does not happen.

The Guinea family visited with Jewel and her chicks today.

At the end of the day we are all pretty worn out.

Oh, Shelby and I really enjoyed Tuesday. It was so good to spend the day with her. We did find a few neat things at the thrift shops.

Thank you for visiting. Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. LOL that picture of Eli is exactly what Keeper looks like a lot! tee hee. They are some tired doggies aren't they. ROFL... I hate when I walk into a spider web LOL, I wouldn't mind so much except I know some spiders are poisonous.

  2. Spider webs are the worst and I hate when they stick to your face and you can not get it to let lose. I love your little Jewel family. Love you and happy that you had a great birthday!

  3. That path through the woods is like a tunnel with some magic waiting at the other end. What treasures did you find when you went to the thrift store?

  4. Hope you got some good treasures. We don't hunt anymore because we don't eat the meat...but we hunted for years...now I just use my camera...less work that way. It is pretty there in your woods:)

  5. Poor Eli looks exhausted, Ha ha! That is one heck of a spider, I've never seen one like that, wow! Glad the little chickies are doing well, they are such fun to watch.

  6. I would almost rather meet a bear than a spider, that is why I could never move to Australia to be close to my baby brother, 3 weeks holiday is all I can manage. They grow them big and ferocious down under. Eli looks so comfy, Ben is just the same, he likes to throw all the cvushions around till he gets them exactly as he likes then collapse on top.

  7. I love how Eli stretches out, my Rocky hound curls himself up into a ball. x

  9. Good gracious that is some spider, beautiful but BIG. It's amazing how strong some of the webs are and then others are just like gossamer and break at the slightest touch.

  12. Whoops. I fell behind in my blog reading. Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a perfect day.
I can't get enough pictures of Eli collapsed in his chair. He's like an illustration for the word "tired."
And nothing like a husband on vacation to increase the number of tasks in your day! :o)

  14. I freak out every time I walk into a spider web, I'm not particularly afraid of spiders, but I can't stand the feel of their web on me.

  15. I believe that beautiful spider is a marbled orb weaver. This web site has lots of pictures of them and one was submitted by someone in N. Carolina: http://www.spiderzrule.com/orbweaver1.htm
I think it's beautiful, but I wouldn't want to walk into the web. It's not dangerous.

  16. What a GORGEOUS spider! I am very glad you did not get tangled up in it, though. Or run into a bear!
We have so many deer here, too, and the little herd around the house feels like "ours". I just hate to think of the buck being hunted down in a few weeks and all the deer frightened by people chasing them through the woods and shooting at them.
Henny, I really do think you need to splash out on a bigger chair for Eil! 😉

  17. That spider would have had me scratching and shaking my clothes for days. Yesterday I broke down and bought some spider spray at Home Depot and came home and sprayed under the bed and in the closet. This is the time of year that they come in seeking warm dark places . . . sorry they are Not Welcome in my house. Your dog looks so cute sleeping in the chair . . . what a pretty animal.
