One room cleaned, three to go

Good thing I don't mind living day in and day out in a house that looks and feels like a hunting lodge.

Could this be part my 'not sleeping' good at night? Always under the watchful eye of a big buck. Actually, the bigger bucks are on the living room wall.

Spick and span! Almost anyway. I'm sure there is a spot or two missed here and there. I've spent half the day scrubbing and cleaning this room. Cleaning house is a job, but add in rough log walls and animal fur to collect dirt and dust and it's an even bigger job!

Sometimes I would love to make everything more feminine with ruffles and lace and flowers. Thank goodness for my little sewing room and the teeny tiny dining area, where I can see a lace tablecloth.

While the curtains were in the washing machine, I washed the windows and screens. Wonder why windows look hazy and blue in pictures and not clear and clean.

I am bound and determined to get every room in this teeny tiny house cleaned. Oh, things look tidy most of the time, but it's the dirt, dust, lint balls, and cobwebs hiding behind all this stuff that is driving me crazy!

The question is...will things stay clean until I can get to the rest of the house? Weetie was right back in the rocking chair on that clean pillow. Well, that's her spot.

Poppy had a meeting in Raleigh today and won't be home before 7:30. Guess I need to start thinking about something quick and easy for supper. :(

Hope to be back soon.

Love,
Henny

  1. Looks so inviting and cozy, it's rained for three days straight here, I'm always in a cleaning mood when it's dark and raining :)
Your pets are definitely part of your family, and very, very lucky.

  2. I love your room...with the exception of the Bucks. I'm not sure...no, I'm real sure...I wouldn't allow those in my house, much less in my bedroom! Not that I have anything against hunting or taxidermy, mind you, but my allergies would be off the charts! Things like this is why my husband has a shop! I think a bit of lace and pink would work well in this room, by the way!

  3. Looking good, I like your cabin/hunting lodge decor! I agree rough logs are hard to clean,,,I vacuum mine. Now is the time when cobwebs show up...one day you have none the next big hanging webs:(

  4. That's the thing about housecleaning--------IT NEVER ENDS!!!!! It is nice however to every once in awhile to have at least one room that is clean and shiny. Never lasts though.

  5. I love the way your house is decorated. I have deer watching me in the living room but no the bedroom. I have turkey feathers in the bedroom. Oh well, I love your house I would love to see it in person one day but you know how hard that is. I love you and when you get done scrubbing your house maybe you could come and help me do mine. I wish I had a spare bedroom so you could come and stay a night or two with me.

    Love you

  6. The problem with cleaning is that is never ends it is a vicious circle. You finish the last room and then have to start the first one again. It certainly looks warm and cosy.

  7. Housecleaning is the real-life equivalent of Sisyphus - the fellow in Hades doomed to push a boulder up a hill only to have it roll back down.

  8. Cleaning is a never ending circle here, perhaps that's because I live in a house full of males.xx

  9. Ah...now you gone and done it! Looking at these photos of your beautiful cabin has made me miss ours that we had to sell last year. There were dead animals gracing the walls and it was all wooden inside. Yours looks so warm and cozy too...and I love how that sweet puppy (who looks very much like our Hunter that we lost in March) has taken back her bed...lol! Are you referring to Raleigh, NC? We are about 45 minutes west :)

  12. Hmm, I think I'd be worried about those bucks falling on me in the night! House work, blah,...love a clean house but with a woodstove and animals and a farm, always hair, dirt and dust around, you could spend half the day, every day, cleaning, and still never catch up.

  13. I like my deer outside looking in the windows and I think you are brave to sleep under them. Maybe you could lady them up by using them for hatracks for your pretty bonnets! Keeping things dusted and vacuumed is a never-ending job with pets but I think your teeny tiny house looks very home-y and comfortable.

  14. Hi! Maybe I am glad that my honey does not hunt! My house gets swept and dusted by my husband but with my Lyme I don't have the energy to do the housecleaning as your are doing. It is so nice though when one does get it done! Enjoy your rooms as you get them done. Nancy

  15. I think we pretty well all agree that housework is a never ending job. I try to keep the house clean and tidy and not too many cob webs. I must agree that with pets in the house the job is much more difficult.

  16. Your home always looks so cozy and clean. I like to stay on top of the housework, too. That way I never panic if the doorbell rings and unexpected guests show up.

Have a good weekend, my friend... :)

  17. Oh gosh- those dead heads would give me nightmares! Mark had a fish mounted once and I spent a couple of years plotting to get it out of my house. It's now in his shop...eeebie jeebies.
Don't get me started on dust bunnies...I grow them in dark corners of my house. LOL!

  18. I'm pretty particular with tidy rooms too. Dust and cobwebs piss me off a lot. Your room is pretty cozy with an adventurous spirit ambiance.

  19. Doesn't it feel good to deep clean? I should do it much more often than I do. We have a very 'hairy' house, too, as anyone with animals can probably relate to! Your room is very cozy and warm looking. I am SO happy that you enjoyed The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly! Have a great week!

  20. I think the trick to the hunting lodge look is to have plenty of softer female patterns like checks and stripes and florals like you do with Weetie's cushion. I saw a picture the other day that I so loved with the hunting look and a girly floral cushion with cowboy boots on the floor under a bench.
