Last Friday the clouds got thin enough for a tiny bit of sun to shine through. We all hurried out to see what it felt like!!! This lizard stretched out in a little patch of sunshine just inside the garden gate. He rolled his eyes up like "you can just step over, I'm not moving"!! Lynn, is this an "Eastern Fence Lizard"??
A couple of summers ago several plants "volunteered" (as mama used to say) and came up in the compost bin. I pulled one and there was an almond attached. Almond trees were growing!!! I put all these little trees in pots. Never would I have believed it...but there are almonds on the trees this year!!! I was telling a former county extension agent about the trees and he said these would probably never grow almonds because of our North Carolina weather. Look...
Looks like little peaches. I've given away all the trees but 3 and these are still in pots. Not enough room in this yard for another tree. I keep searching for a place though...
Jewel's baby chicks are growing. I suppose they would be teenagers now...It's hard to get a good picture. They won't be still long enough...
The elderly duck couple didn't mind posing for the camera...

Dear Henny,
ReplyDeleteL-O-V-E the plastic owl! In my husband's family there is a plastic owl that gets passed around when people arrive at a certain age. Not sure how the tradition got started, but it's a hoot. (couldn't resist)
You know you're getting up there is the plastic owl is scheduled to make an appearance.
Almond trees, who knew? I'll bet they smell lovely. I made strawberry shortcake for dessert after dinner today. I like to add a dash of almond extract to the berries as they juice in the sugar. Nom, nom!
We had three mallards in the backyard today at the same time. They were funny....they'd track in a line this way, then turn around and go back where they'd just come from. Go fig.
Your photo layouts are fun. Don't stop taking pics!
Love,
Jen
Dear Jen,
DeleteI love the story about the plastic owl in your husband's family. It's funny how things like that get started. The strawberry shortcake sounds soooo good. Now I've got to make one! :) Oh, and I love mallards. We bought 2 baby mallards at Tractor Supply and raised them to go on the pond. We had to give them away though. We were told that our old male muscovy would try to kill the male mallard. Muscovy are not mean but territorial. Our old muscovy has been here a long time. Thank you!!

DeleteWho knows what I did!!! I'm always hitting something I don't mean to! Know telling what I've got floating around out there!
DeleteHenny
Again!!! I meant no telling, not know telling.... OK, I'm off now.
DeleteHey Henny! Just love your place, looks so heavenly, the kind of place we all would love to be. I have posted at Lynn's blog and swept over here, I am so amazed at those almond trees. I live in WNC, and we are deluged with rain and nothing is growing (but the wild things) so I am glad somewhere someone has a garden going. Just love your blog - also Bickett reminds me of a cat we got from a friend in 1998, and she is still nipping at fingers after a stroke recently, she is about 23 years old now. More personality than the law should allow, we love her so! Love your blog and the wonderful photos. Will be thinking of those almond trees and wondering how they are doing, Therese
ReplyDeleteDear Therese,
DeleteThank you for looking at my blog and for such a nice comment! I am really surprised at the almond trees too!! Just luck!! I will keep everyone posted as to how the almonds are doing! Can you believe how cold and wet all of NC has been this spring??!! The garden is going, but really needs some sun and warm soil!
Oh, I cannot imagine your kitty cat being 23 years old! And had a stroke! I just know how much you must love her. Hope she does good, and is with you many more years.
Thanks again,
Love,
Henny Penny
Howdy Mama! Almonds??!!!! Wha??? I cannot believe that. I need to go check my trees. What if we have almonds? We will have to straighten out the county ext man. Yessiree.
ReplyDeleteLove you!
Lynn
PS -- not sure about the fence lizard. Let's google. :)
Hey Lynn! You make me laugh!! Do check your trees. You should have an almond too, unless we disturbed everything by moving them. Love you, Linda Lou...
