Not much of a post...

walking past the garden again and Poppy asks, didn't you just take a picture yesterday...

well, I did and will probably take another one tomorrow.  :)

Hey friends. I am starting a post with absolutely nothing interesting to talk about except maybe the weather. According to our weatherman, we have just been through the hottest June, and hottest July on record.

Then August, normally out hottest most humid month, comes in followed by a cold front and we have enjoyed almost a week of wonderful cooler weather with temps in the 60s and 70s.

Smokey has been stretched out on our raggedy old back steps...

Gosh, I didn't realize how badly these steps and screen door need painting. Another job added to my list...the list that keeps growing with very little getting checked off. When I think of all the work, I used to get done around here...

Anyhow, a few weeks ago Poppy said, wonder if there is a recipe for "raspberry pie"?? Well, I found a recipe, tried it...

and we have eaten a raspberry pie a week ever since. It is absolutely delicious, (got to have whipped cream), and wouldn't you think, good for you?? Best of all, easy to make. Here's the recipe...

1 c. sugar, 3 T. cornstarch, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 c. water, 4 c. raspberries, 1 T. butter

Over medium heat stirring constantly, bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 1 minute. Add butter. Cool then pour into baked pie crust. Refrigerate.

I am ashamed to say that I cannot make my own piecrusts. and at my age!! The one in the picture was a little Pillsbury frozen crust. My favorite though is this one...

to unroll and place in my glass pie dish. Looks much better, kind of like a homemade. :(  One more thing, Food Lion puts their store brand frozen raspberries on sale 2 for $6.00. One bag makes this pie.

Poppy came in the other day saying I brought you a flower...

awww, well actually, it was stuck to my boot, he said. Have you ever seen such a tiny flower?

Hope you will visit again, if you've made it this far. I do appreciate you all.

I will end this mess with little Miss Violet, trying on a new dress...

Love, Henny

Special note to Darlene...I am so sorry for not seeing your comment sooner. Please see my reply. :)

  2. Little Miss Violet looks very pretty in her eyelet trimmed dress.
We have had a pretty good crop of raspberries this year, with maybe one more small picking. We froze a few but the rest we just eat fresh, sugared, and over vanilla ice cream. and for me, a drizzle of chocolate sauce and a squirt of whipped cream. Yum, one of the tastes of summer.

I believe you live not too far from me, and we too are having that bit of a cool spell. Wonderful, isn't it? We had somany unbearably hot days in June and July. I always have ongoing lists... there is always tomorrow... Blessings!

  6. Miss Violet is so pretty! I love seeing your garden. For some reason I like these ending days of summer and how the gardens are starting to get "spent". Funny about the flower; sweet of your husband. andrea

  7. Miss Violet is adorable dear Henny. I take lots of photos of my cats & my Mr says that to me too!! Your raspberry pie looks delicious - how wonderful, Yes I would be having cream with it too!! I buy ready rolled pastry sheets as I don't tend to make my own pastry either. A lovely post dear Henny despite you saying you have Nothing to say. x0x

  8. I'm sure you could make your own pie crust. It is really pretty easy!! :)
I love raspberries but not the little seeds. I always get seedless jam.
    Violet is adorable!!!

  9. Isn't Miss Violet just the sweetest!!! Kind of makes me wish I had great grands. None so far.
Your pie looks wonderful and I'll have you know I don't make my own pie dough either. Sometimes one of my menfolk will make a batch (using the whole pound of lard) otherwise it's Pillsbury for me too!

  10. I'm always wandering in the yard and taking pictures! New things pop up all the time.
It's been so hot here too and we are officially in a drought. We've had 1.5 inches of rain since June 1 and that's a record for so little rain.
I use those refrigerated Pillsbury crusts too. I used to make crusts, but Bob can't tell the difference - so that's what I use. Your pie looks so good!

  11. Little Darlene is so cute in her new dress. And that pie!! It is too pretty to cut. thank you Henny for the recipe. The garden looks good and I'm guessing you harvested your raspberries from this beautiful garden...

  13. Little Miss Violet is a doll in her eyelet dress. That pie sure looks good. I made a strawberry pie a few days ago. I used to make my own piecrusts, but rarely do it any more. The store-bought ones are just as good now and making piecrust makes such a mess! I love Pillsbury crusts, too, but bought some at Aldi earlier this summer and believe they're just as good. They're easier to unroll, being rolled in paper and are sure cheaper. I looked up that flower earlier this summer when there were a lot of them in the park where I walk. They're fleabane, pretty little things like miniature daisies. I don't know much about plants so love the ease of taking a picture and asking Google to tell me what it is. I hope your good weather holds for a while. Our local news early this evening said that we've had 30 inches of rain this year so everything looks lush. I always enjoy your blog posts, Henny!

    1. Peg, it's so good to hear from you! Thank you. You're right about the piecrusts. Such a mess to try making one and I have tried. :) I've heard of fleabane but had no idea what it was. Take care.

  14. Miss Violet is beyond precious, Henny, and the raspberry pie is something I'd like to try at some time. My husband is having to watch his sugar levels right now after being on steroids, but this looks absolutely delicious to make down the road. So glad you reached out with this positive post today. Blessings!

    1. Thank you Willie. You do have lots of little ones around. I bet they're crazy about you. The strawberries sound delicious, and the double cream. Got to have the whipped cream. I've got to carry Smokey to see the vet. Something going on with the hair on his back near his tail. It is all matted and looks awful. Hopefully, it's nothing to worry about.

  18. Good morning, Henny Penny! Yesterday I made a chocolate chess pie for the first time in years! Yummy. Your pie looks very nice, and not a hard recipe at all! I have raspberries in the freezer ... I also love those Pillsbury pie crusts that come 2 in a box. They work really well. I also have a simple "no-roll" pie crust recipe that I use a lot.

  19. Hi Henny! Just a quick comment on pie crusts. I prefer home-made, but DH doesn't seem to notice the difference, so why go through the trouble (IMO). And I've learned from a Chef on TV that if you mix a little whiskey, vanilla, and butter together... and brush it on your Pet Ritz pie shell, it makes it taste almost like home-made. Try it! Also it was 98 F here yesterday (Texas) and 86 F in the house... A/C died! Hopefully it will be replaced tomorrow.

  20. Good morning Henny. This is a wonderful post and now I want some raspberry pie! I haven't been able to post or comment for awhile because we're out camping and the internet hasn't cooperated. Blogger is still not wanting to work for me either. Frustrating. I love that beautiful little Viola and her pretty summer dress. So precious.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  21. You are I both posted about the heat today, And I guess our weather is about the same, as we live not that far away. This post is not about nothing. I love the tiny flower, maybe a mini daisy? Violet is adorable. And I love smokey on these steps, he is almost perfectly camouflaged!

  22. Dear Henny, I saw your post when it came out and I got sidetracked! I love seeing your garden over and over so keep the camera rolling. Precious sends purrs to her male look alike Smokey! He totally takes over the steps and no one thinks you must paint. If you do, don't let him get in the mix, lol. We had the lovely cold front here and up till today it has been cold morns at 58 and only 80 in the PM. Now it is going right back to the heat and humidity that was here all of July. Summer goes on an I am glad not to have winter. But this 90's up here is disgusting. Stay cool and I enjoyed seeing Violet. She's a cutie. Lynn and Precious
