So much to post, so little time

Well I've got so much to talk about this morning, I simply don't know where to begin. Bet you dread it...

Oh friends, I am trying to adjust to a modern counter height table and stools sitting next to my 1920's mahogany china cabinet. :( Wouldn't it be wonderful if life had a rewind button? Just go back  few weeks and LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE!!

Poppy said, as the last stool was put together and placed under the table, "I can tell by the look on your face that you don't like it".   He also said, "well listen, if the Lord is willing and we're still here a year from now, we will put this set on Craigslist and buy something else".

Actually, this is not as ugly as I had built it up to be in my mind. But before the stools were finished and under the table, I felt sick looking at that tall skinny table. The stools leveled it out a bit. I was thinking a lace tablecloth (I love lace tablecloths) would give it a more old fashioned look, but it only emphasized the height.

and, remember the pretty red rug  that was way too small...

well, it is now for sale on Craigslist for less than half what we paid for it. We kept it for two months, waiting to sell the old mahogany table; too long to return it. We have ordered another larger rug. So, as soon as it arrives, I will be back with pictures!!

Poppy has been mighty patient through all this.

Did you all have a good Thanksgiving? We surely did. Andee and Todd have moved back to North Carolina. Maddie too, but she is away at college. We are very thankful to have them close to home again! Poppy and I had Thanksgiving dinner them. It was wonderful and very special!

So, Andee sent me a few good Thanksgiving pictures for my blog, but the problem is, I don't know how to move them from email to home pictures, or to my blog.  Oh I managed to transport them, somewhere, but where?? The pictures may be headed your way, who knows! Dear dear me!

So my two pictures will have to do for now...

Andee opened the oven door to check the food. All I saw was how clean her oven was. Makes me ashamed.

The food not only looked good, it was delicious!

Well when I started this post yesterday morning there was so much to tell you...guess now it will have to wait.

The new rug arrived late this afternoon, but I haven't had time to open it.

Also, Eli spent the day with the groomer...he came home looking like a brand new stuffed polar bear, and smells so good!

I will take pictures of both, and a few other things and hopefully, will be back tomorrow.

Thank you, friends.

Love,
Henny

  2. I think the new looks ok with the old cabinet. I'm sure the height is what makes it seem out of sorts. I don't particularly like those tall tables either. I'm sure you will figure out a way to make it all come together! I am so glad your daughter has moved closer to you! And that table with all the food makes me miss the Thanksgivings of my childhood! Yes, indeedy! I would be ashamed of my oven if Isaw that clean one! She definitely needs to bake more so we won't feel so bad when we look at it! LoL

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

    1. Hey Pam! I've thought about you and your big farm table. Wonder why we make the decisions we make! Then have to live with what we don't really want. :) It's okay though.

  3. I was so fearful of seeing your new set, but it's charming! Looking forward to seeing your cute room with the new rug. Remember, if you don't like the new rug, return it quickly. However I have to say I bought a new rug and returned it right away and then really regretted returning it since I got a great deal on it. It never ends!

    1. Sharon, thank you! I will do that! Can't wait to get that new run unrolled! The little table set does look kinda pretty. But, I never should had sold that old table. We should have replaced the old chairs. It will be fine though.

  4. I actually really like your new dining set Henny Penny. I think it looks great ... are you sure a lace tablecloth looked odd as that was the first thing I thought of?? I am sure you will get used to it & maybe come to love it. I really do!!! Maybe I am odd!! Have a lovely week Henny Penny. Xx

    1. Thank you Julie. Makes me feel better to hear you say that. I will try the lace cloth again...a round one. All I had to try was oblong, from the old table.

Thanksgiving dinner looks yummy, and I agree that the oven makes me ashamed too. :)

I noticed the clean oven too. I just cleaned mine in Saturday, the first time in forever, and when I opened it to bake squash for dinner I was startled. Whose oven is this, I wondered. it's so clean.

  8. When you looked at your old table it was with the eyes of love, emotion, and family history, so of course it was beautiful.
My eyes look at your new set and see a really charming table and chairs, just waiting to have some love and happiness written into their history. I kept having to flick back up to check on the photograph, you had had me imagining all kinds of modern horrors, but it is a beauty. Give it a little time. Let the raw emotion pass, perhaps you will begin to like it a little more - especially once you get the rug situation sorted.

  10. I don't know what I was expecting the new table to look like but my first thought was how nice it looks. So reassuring that if you still don't like it in a year you can get a different one. Poppy really is a good guy.

  11. How wonderful that Andee and family have moved closer to you! She sure did set a beautiful Thanksgiving table and I know it was delicious. I think your new table looks good and the dark color goes with the china cabinet. I have a 1920's china cabinet as well that belonged to my Grandmother. Have a great week Henny!

  12. HeHe! The first thing that came to mind re the table..
was..There's You, Poppy, two dogs, three cats....and
    only four chairs...! :o).
Seriously though..l think it's a nice set up, nice for
afternoon tea, with lots of sticky buns..Yum! Yum!
AND..I think you should leave it...As Is...! No! cover,
or table~cloth..show off that lovely wood! Looks good!

And..I was trying to see the plate pattern on your place
settings..I have an identical set, l bought when l returned
here to the UK in 73...and still in use to~day, my pattern
is of John Constables painting..The Hay Wain..painted in 1821.
The spread looks lovely, by the way...! :).

HaHa! AND...A little advice from an old Sicilian cook...Never!
Never! Keep your oven spotlessly clean..It's just not done..!
Some texture/flavour must be retained within the oven...!

Well..must go, need my second lemon tea of the day..blowing a
gale outside, not going to far to~day..! In fact..not going
    anywhere...! 😸 😺 😻

    1. Thank you so much Willie! I do love the dark wood. And I do love those pink dishes. Andee started collecting these dishes while they were stationed in Germany. I don't know the pattern. Those are my favorite dishes too, and I am not surprised that you love them...pink! I don't have nearly as many dishes as Andee has, but my collection is growing. I will post a picture. Your set sounds beautiful. I will Google the pattern. Good advice about the oven! Enjoy your tea!

  13. Hi Henny...Your new round table and chairs do match the side cabinet in color- guess this is a bonus. There is also a bit more free-space around the new table now too. Your Thanksgiving dinner looks very nice- we have something similar for Christmas Day...it is not the same now- just Christine and I...however, we've just had a huge get together last Saturday night with our old friends for an early 'Christmas Dinner'- so I guess we're content and happy about our lot. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. Thank you Kev! I need to remember that needing 'more space' is what started all this change. We are happy about that. Your get together with old friends sounds good. Best wishes to you!

  17. I think your new dining set looks lovely and goes well with your antique cabinet. You do have more space now and maybe you'll feel better about it once you lay your new rug. Change takes time to get used to, and you might even love it once you live with it for awhile. Lots of new memories and happy times to be made around this table.

  18. Don't feel bad about your oven. I had a pie spill over and I still to this day haven't cleaned it. I just tell myself I can't do it all in a day, and that you visit to visit, not to inspect the messes. Hope you are having a nice week.

  20. Your new table and chairs do look pretty with the antique hutch. I think we have all regretted replacing a piece of furniture or two, at least once in our lives. Hopefully you will learn to love your new set; and end up feeling like it was the right thing to do. We don't have a dog now; but when we did and brought her home from the groomer...it was always so nice to see her shiny and soft coat of fur and she did smell so pretty. Look forward to seeing the new rug. Have a good day!

  21. I think your new table and chairs look nice! But it doesn't really matter what others think if you're not satisfied with it. My goodness, that Thanksgiving dinner looks delicious! What a spread! Makes me hungry just looking at the picture. Can't wait to see sweet Eli all spiffied up!

  22. I HAD to laugh when I read what you posted after a picture of the open oven. It is EXACTLY what I thought. How does her oven stay that clean. Even after I clean mine it still is not that clean!! I guess the table would take some getting used to. I admit, I would not like the high table/stools. My daughter had them in her kitchen and they were great, but I would prefer the lower table in the dining room. but then, I'm not good with change. I look forward to seeing the dining room with the rug in it.

  23. Your beautiful cabinet fills me with envy. Such a shame about the rug being too small. I am happy to tell you that my oven is gleaming, I can not claim credit for it though, the SO cleaned it for me.

  25. Beautiful table and the food looks so good. How wonderful your daughter has moved back and nearby! I MIGHT be a teensy bit jealous. I love that rug you sold. The colors are so unusual. We've been looking for TWO YEARS for a round one of the right size that fits under our round dining room table (also right pattern, color, right price ...). I can't get over how shiny your wood floor is. I believe I could see myself in it!

  26. Am agreeing with all the others who think the dining set is very nice and looks good in your home.
Hoping maybe it will look better to you as time passes and you get the new rug.

  27. Well, kinda like that table and chairs...the color matches perfectly with the vintage china cabinet! A lace table cloth would certainly be nice as well. I actually have a friend who has a set very much like this and she added a lovely lace cloth and was beautiful! Your Thanksgiving feast looked amazing and how wonderful that part of your family has moved closer to you! As far as those pictures go...you can download photos sent in an email to your desktop on your pc and just pick them up from there when you are in your blogger dashboard when putting together a post...easy peasy!

  29. I have a high table in the kitchen (rectangle) that I use as an island and the chairs that go with it are just like yours but are a lighter color.

Like your rug and dinner looks delicious.

  30. Hi Henny...thanks for stopping by today. I finally sat down to put a post together.
Personally I love a round table. I plan to put one in the new house along with four chairs. And I think if you want a lace tablecloth then just go for it. I'm sure it will look fine and you will be happier when you look over at it. That's what's important.Thanksgiving looked to be a wonderful celebration for you and Poppy. And now Christmas right around the corner. Hope everyone is doing well and that all the critters are warm and happy. Tell Smokey I miss his face. =^..^= Annie and Wilson send their love. *waving* xoxo

You probably don't want to hear this Henny....but I really like your new table and chairs set and I think it goes really well with your china cabinet! I can just picture your fancy new rug under it. Can't wait to see that. Oh the food in the oven and on the table looks delish! Lucky you and your hubby to be invited to such a lovely Thanksgiving spread! Life is good Henny....Happy Holidays to you and yours!

  34. Add me to the list of those that think your new table looks great. The wood colour is a good match with the China cabinet. I really like it how it is, uncovered, but guess I'd have to see it with a table cloth first to say for sure which I'd like best. A rug under the table has never made sense to me, mostly because it makes it hard to pull the chairs in and out, but it does look nice! Can't wait to see your new rug.

  35. Aww, bless you :( I would feel the EXACT SAME WAY if my dining room table was high with stools. Stools! I can't sit on stools comfortably. They hurt my legs. They are for young people, which is why you find them in Starbucks, but NOT in Cracker Barrel :)

Your daughter's red dishes are so pretty! You are so fortunate to have them back in the state and close by. Our kids are all so far away. Much love to you in this upcoming Advent season!
