Moping around

Dear Friends,

Maybe it's because of spring and this pretty weather we are having, or maybe it's that Poppy is home more, I just don't know, but I am having a heck of a time blogging lately.

Have I simply blogged out? Sure hope not! You friends are always on my mind and your comments mean the world to me.

So, still trying, here's my little post for today...

I did wish on a dandelion puffball earlier that the teeny tiny greenhouse was sparkling clean again...

then marched myself back to the house and fixed a bucket of hot soapy water...

and what a difference that made...

We have dark, stormy looking clouds rolling around today, in fact, Eli and I were coming back from our walk when we heard a loud rumble of thunder. Didn't take me long to get us back inside!

Maybe spring fever is my problem. Why, lately I can't even get into sewing at night...and that new apron pattern, well...whoever heard of putting darts in an apron. :)

The pattern is simply adorable though...

and one apron is almost finished, darts and all, in the fabric with little birds, and with the heart shaped bib. Making these should get easier after doing a few. You see, I am not a gifted seamstress, I have work at this.

Better get supper started. Thank you for putting up with me and this blog!

Love,
Henny

Funny, the dictionary says a moping person is usually frowning, slouched over, quiet, and maybe even lying down. Sounds just like me, except for the lying down part. :) It will be better soon.

  2. I think oftentimes, the list of "to-do's" overwhelms us after a long winter....
Your greenhouse looks sparkly clean, what a difference a little scrub can do :)
I love your apron Henny, the pattern is a delight.
My refrigerator is needing replacing, and I'm depressed just trying to troll through all the different sizes and options....sheesh.
    Hugs,

    1. Thank you Jo. It is a job replacing an appliance. You're right about the to-do list. I've probably listed too much. :)

  3. I agree with Jo; so much to do now is a bit overwhelming. I love your dandelion and "teeny tiny greenhouse" pic! You certainly do know how to make wishes come true. :~) You are a great blogger, and I enjoy every post!

  4. Once the weather smartens up I'll be outside a lot more and I can see where I might be posting less than I do now ( although I'm not terribly faithful as it is). This month we have had exactly 3 days when no rain fell. Today we're apparently setting some new records for total amount. I must admit it gets depressing.
Isn't it amazing how much better we can make something look with a bucket of hot soapy water?
Sometimes I put it off and then when I actually do what needs to be done it takes me no time at all. I need to remember that.
Your new apron pattern looks complicated but lovely.

    1. Oh my goodness. I would really be moping with only three days without rain. That is a LOT of rain! I've put off scrubbing the greenhouse, think washing would not help, but what a difference. I need to remember that! :)

  5. Oh, I can't wait to see your finished apron. That is the cutest pattern ever! I love how you framed that first photo with the wreath . . . very clever and creative. Sometimes blogging needs to be put on hold for more important things and family is a top priority . . . we miss you when you don't post, but living life and enjoying your family is more important. Never apologize for that, dear friend :)
    Love you,
    Connie :)

  7. I think we all get a little Spring Fever once in a while Henny. I sure hope you are not "blogged out" as all your blog friends sure do love hearing from you and seeing what is happening on your little farm. I understand how it can be to have your hubby there all the time as mine retired just a bit after I did. I finally had my routine all set after retiring then all of a sudden it all changed! It takes a little time but it all works out.

You sure did a great job cleaning up that green house! It looks like new! I don't know where you get all your energy - you always seem to get so much done. I feel like it takes me forever to get things taken care of around here.

Give yourself some kind of a treat or break because you deserve it!

    Hugs from Missouri!
    Bonnie

    1. Oh Bonnie, thank you. I think most women do understand. Maybe I will adjust. It is hard to run the vacuum, or sit at the computer...and having to answer a hundred questions every day! :( Why are you doing that???

  8. That apron pattern looks time-consuming to me. I am definitely NOT a seamstress; I haven't done more than mend for a long time. But the aprons have gathered trim. I remember gathering, trying to get the appearance of it fairly even and then trying to get it positioned correctly. That's not my cup of tea so I admire you all the more for choosing to make one. Weather affects my mood, my energy level. Maybe when you have consistent sunshine most days, you'll feel more motivated. I enjoy your blog so much, no matter how much or how little you do. It's like having a chat with a friend. Having a husband home most of the time sure changes the way you get things done, or not. My husband retired 16 years ago. I was thrilled when he joined the American Legion and got involved in lots of their doings. He also does a LOT for friends and family so he's not in the house all the time. It takes time to adjust to life changes. It's great that Poppy is there to help with some of the yard work. As time goes by, you'll find your new 'normal'.

    1. Peg, I always enjoy your comments. Sometimes I wounder what kept me sane before this blog. Men really do need something to do to get them out of the house. That gathering and sewing on ruffles is hard to me too. The weather affects my mood too...a lot! Thank you Peg.

  9. I can't get much done with my husband home myself. His hours changed a while ago, works in a grocery store and is home by 1:00 pm, or even earlier. I like that he is home, but can't motivate as well! Love the apron!

    1. Hey Donna! You know, Poppy works in a grocery store too and has odd hours. I just love time alone at home. Sounds like we feel pretty much the same way. Thank you Donna.

  10. I think most of us feel that way about blogging. Remember the posts don't need to be long or as often. Just don't stop blogging.....I would miss you.

  11. Hi Henny, it had been such a long winter this year it has been hard to stay "up" all the time. I always enjoy your posts no matter how short or infrequent.
Your aprons are gorgeous, don't say you aren't talented!
As Peg above says you and Poppy will find your new "normal".
    Take care.

  14. It is spring fever, my friend. I have had to push myself to get the regular daily things done. I think it is the sunshine that is beckoning me to come out for a stroll ...I don't know the rainy days do for me...make me want to take a nap? Anyway, before long you will be fit as a fiddle. It is a blessing to see how much Poppy has been. :)

  15. I have a hard time blogging, too, at my Pics & PIeces blog...it is as if I am talked out. I will have things I want to tell, but can't remember them when I have time to blog! On top of that I have had a cold/sinus thing and it has been wearing on me for over two weeks and just finally hit the peak and think I am on the mend at last.

  20. Oh I get in those mopey moods too! Hope yours passes quickly. Our weather hasn't helped. Continuous rain from Monday evening to yesterday afternoon. 44 hours of it, ugh! I'm definitely slowing down on the blogging. Not sure why. I seem to get pictures loaded and then do nothing with them. Okay, off to finish my latest post, and oh, the sun just flashed out, yay!

  21. I get into moods where I just can't get myself started on anything, even though I have plenty of interesting things to do. Can't be spring fever because it happens any time of the year! I'm sure the mopeys will disappear and you will get busy again. Sometimes we are entitled to just be lazy. After all, we are retired!

  22. I bet your apron is really cute. Calm down and don't worry about blogging, do what you can do. We will be here for you! :)

  23. Wow, I'm late to the party. I've been busy doing something, but don't really see much evidence of all that doing. Sigh..... I have been focused on long knitting sessions in an attempt to finish a shawl for a seriously ill friend so that has tended to be quite a time sink.

The apron is just darling. Love the ruffles around the sides and hem. I like the one with the heart shaped bib, I can see why you chose that version first. I can't wait to see your first attempt at it. I find it hard to believe that you will find the pattern difficult for very long.

Dear Henny, please don't give up your blog. I enjoy it so much. I know that it's a busy time of the year, so why not just blog when you can? At least once a week? I would miss you so much if you go away. I love your house, your sewing, your pets, your flowers, your yard...your hubby....all of it. Sure hope you don't quit!!!

  26. Henny, I'm sure it takes time to adjust to your new life with your hubby home more but whenever you blog, I thoroughly enjoy reading it! I love to share with your day to day life. Makes me want to pitch a tent in your back yard and live there! Have a good day.

  28. I would rather read your post about nothing than most other blog's posts. Don't worry if you don't post as often as you think you should. Just post when feel like it and don't put an unneeded burden on yourself.
