Eli, Ducks and Dolls

Most nights when supper is finished and Poppy settles into his favorite chair in front of the TV, Eli brings his teddy bear so he and Poppy can fight. Last night however, Poppy didn't feel so well. He was not in the mood to rough-house with Eli.  With a sad pitiful look Eli dragged his bear across the floor and got up in his favorite chair...

He is such a big sweetie-pie!

You should have seen him light up when I said come on Eli, we'll go for a walk. While we were out I tried getting some better pictures of the new duck...

Those feathers on her left side are not supposed to stand out quite the way they do. Those were probably hurt when she was put in the cage. Lots of folks are not as careful and gentle as I like to be when handling animals. Wish I could gather up and bring home all the animals that belong to folks around here.

Back when I was having yard sales at the flea market every Friday and Saturday, a man brought a small wire cage and crowded inside that cage was two roosters, one guinea, four or five hens, and a duck. Hot summertime, no food, no water...I was so thankful when one by one he sold out. This guy deserved to be shut up in a small cage and left sitting in the sun for a day and I would love to be the one to latch the door of that cage.

I tell Poppy, most of the critters we bring home probably think they have died and gone to heaven.

I am a very patient person. Sometimes however I just can't wait, not even for one more day. I'm talking about those dirty grungy dolls of Nellie's. Can't wait to show you. Remember the one with the dirtiest face and wearing the little dress?

The doll's outfit is made from two perfectly good pairs of my winter socks. I started working with the doll and could not go to bed until I had finished.

Gosh! I need to be finished here! Still lots to do today. Thank you for stopping by.

Love,
Henny

  1. Well, you might now have cold feet this winter, but the socks went to good use. What a wonderful outfit! A masterful job.

    1. Hey Vicki, I know! I wish you could have other chickens and ducks. I never knew that until you told me. Maybe one of these days things will change (by the time you are my age) and you can have more animals...when you're old and retired. :)

  4. Eli is such a sweetie! Ralphy, our foster cat climbed onto my lap carrying his HUGE kickaroo in his mouth...I think they both needed a cuddle.
I'll never understand why some people treat animals the way they do.

    1. Oh, I'm glad you still have Ralphy. There are just so many poor animals out there who need a cuddle. We need more people like you and Chris.

  6. At first glance I thought your little duck suffered from Angel Wing, but I guess being transported can make that kind of injury.
Eli loves his teddy bear, he's so sweet.
Those baby dolls have so much personality now, thanks to your wonderful talent.
Storms are moving in....I thought of you !

    1. I did not know about Angel Wing until now. I read about it on wikipedia. It could be Angel Wing, but those few feathers look like they were hurt. Hope your storms aren't bad ones and hope they pass quickly.

  7. Hey Mom, Just wanted to tell you you're the best Mama in the world :) All those animals are definitely in animal heaven! I'm thinking Eli might be the most spoiled, I mean loved dog around :) Kind of reminds me of when Lynn and I were little and would get all crazy and full of energy at bedtime and wouldn't listen to you. We were jumping on the beds and over the headboards from one bed to the other. I don't think you ever even raised your voice at us.

    I love you,
    Andee

    1. Andee! What a surprise! Thank you! Eli might not be as spoiled as Bell :) Good grief! I remember when you and Lynn would get wound up at bedtime. I could not do anything with you but didn't want you to know that! I love you Andee! Mom

  10. Your new duck is beautiful on your pond, and Eli is just the cutest dog ever with his big teddy bear. You did a wonderful job on the doll. You wouldn't know it was the same doll after you finished sprucing it up.

  12. Oh, that is so cute, Eli and his bear! He reminds me of Jake, who has a big stuffed rabbit that he sometimes takes into a chair with him.
I too was going to suggest Angel Wing. Interesting reading about that, and it did say if only one wing is affected, it is usually the left, and apparently the feathers do look a bit weird. I guess if it is an injury it will sort itself out. I agree with you how rough some people are when handling animals. Hate to say it, but it seems to be mostly men to me.
And oh yeah, awesome job with the dolls!
Funny, at the end of the farmers market yesterday, I was chatting to another vendor. She is a crafter, and one of the things she sells is doll clothes. She had had a good day, but it was funny.....she was saying how many mothers were willing to hand her $10 for doll clothes for their child's dolls. She said it is such a waste of money, they should be sewing them themselves (the mothers that is).
