Our front porch is a dog lot

That's right. Our front porch is now a dog lot...

Actually, this fence is temporary. We hope to get this porch screened-in soon. For now it is a place for Eli to play while I am busy in the garden. Just can't trust him running loose. I'm thinking Eli would be happy spending time with the goats when he is older.

Old folks, bout my age, used to say, we sure need a hard freeze this winter to kill off some insects. Well it didn't work this winter. The ticks are worse than ever. Seriously. There are deer ticks and big ticks. Sometimes I think Poppy and I have become immune to tick bites. We were discussing this afternoon, who had the most bites, and I think it's me. I can count 15 around my waist alone and I know it's ticks that are biting because I pull the dirty little pests off.

Oh my, look what I have. Got it today from a friend...

He, or she, is just a little ball of fur. Haven't come up with a name yet. Sweetie pie fits but I call everything around here Sweetie pie.

The garden is coming right along. In fact, all the green beans are up. I started on the wattle fence. Poppy and I ate the last of the canned green beans this week, so I'm hoping for a good crop this year. Hoping for about three canners full.

I don't know much about a wattle fence, but enjoy doing things like this. If the beans do good and climb the fence, I will proudly take a picture. :) Keeping the garden simple this year...okra, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, (1) eggplant, green beans, kale, and cucumbers. Not even going to try squash or zucchini, because of the squash bugs, which will probably get the cucumbers too.

Thanks for stopping by.

Love,
Henny Penny

  1. Oh I love the rabbit it is so cute!! I remember having rabbits when I we lived in Rockingham. I miss having pets. Daddy bought me anything I wanted. What kind of green beans do you plant. We have not had much luck with green beans. The last 2 years they have been so stringy. I have strung green beans since I was a kid and I have never seen such stringy green beans. I wish you the best of luck with the garden.

    Love you

    1. These are mountaineer green beans and we haven't had any luck with them lately either. What few I cooked last summer were so stringy you could hardly eat them. I'm hoping this year will be better. Your Dad did love animals. Seems like I remember you having rabbits. What you have now are farm animals. I would love that! Love you Vicki.

    1. He does, doesn't he. It is not often that he is left alone behind that fence. :)

  4. I've thought about that too! :) We have heard so many horror stories about how Great Pyrenees will run away if given the chance. With all the attention we give him I find that hard to believe. If I could win the lottery, the first thing I would do would be fence in our five acres. No chance of that happening! :)

  6. Dear Henny! Beautiful work you did there and gave me an idea for having beans (if I should dare to) the ground hogs eat everything with a flower.

Your puppy has grown, I know you love him very much! And a bun-bun..won't your sweet daughter love to see the little baby.

Have a beautiful Mother's Day if I don't get back here! Love Terry

    1. Dear Terry, I always love to hear from you! I haven't had any luck with green beans the last two years. Yes, won't Lynn love the bunny. She has not seen it yet, even on my blog. Lots going on with her lately. She is fine though. Thank you for the Mother's Day wish.Thank you for leaving me a comment. :)

  7. I bet Eli will be interested in the bunny! Your porch looks like a nice place to relax. I hate ticks! Haven't seen my first one yet.

  8. I like your bean fence, but there is no way that would be tall enough for ours. Our beans grow towards 8'!
Eli sure is getting big. I was thinking the same idea as Far Side, although it would get agravating if he getting banging against the end of the line. Maybe if you are working in one spot you use one of those corkscrew things that you turn into the ground and tie him to that. Be sure to reward any good behaviour he offers you, like coming to you or settling down near you.
That is one cute little bunny:)

    1. 8'! That's high! These beans are half runners. Hope the fence supports them. I never know about something I build. I did look at those screw things to tie a dog and wondered if it would work for Eli. He might enjoy be tied for a short while if it's near where I'm working.
