Trimming the vines

There may soon be a new grapevine wreath in the works!  It warmed up a lot yesterday so early afternoon I went outside. What in the world could I find  to do?? Overgrown grapevines!!

I did some serious pruning! These vines had grown up and over the posts and wire, forming a tunnel along the side of the chicken house.

With all the trees we cut last summer, the chickens, bantams, and the grapevines should get a lot more sun. The green on the door proves how little sun was getting through...

Have to look close now to see the posts and wire and grapevine. It looks so open! After all my complaining about leaves...I have been raking and hauling leaves back into the yard. This section of the yard washes really bad!

Always something to do.  Poppy says I make work! :)

Lots of vines for making a BIG wreath!

Lets hope I pruned the grapevines the right way and we get a bounty of grapes this year!

Friends, I am sure you have seen enough of this side of the yard.  I suppose I need to get out more...visit some places...take some interesting pictures. :)

Thank you for stopping by.

Love,
Henny Penny

  1. Oh I love to see other people's places..and how we all do things. When we moved here we had a grapevine growing up one wall of the house. It was a beauty and protected the house from the wind in winter and the sun in summer, but it had damaged the wood and that isn't good in a wooden house! So off it went.

    1. Me too! Oh that grapevine sounds pretty growing on the house, but it probably would do some damage. You have a beautiful home!

  2. Wow---that's going to be some wreath. Be sure to show us once you come up with something. I love to see your side yard like Jane above to see how other people arrange things. And I love all your animals. Any word on the donkey?

    1. I'm hoping my husband will make me another really big wreath. The one he made when we moved here is getting brittle. I'm still dreaming about a donkey. I worry because of the two goats, and not enough room.

  4. We cut ours earlier. I hope we did not cut ours in the wrong time. We did not have many grapes. Hoping to buy some this month and set them out.
I made a grapevine wreath for Valentines but I have not completely finished it. Maybe I will write a blog about it tomorrow.

    1. I worried that it might be too early to cut these. I really didn't know what I was doing...guess we'll soon find out! :)

  5. The hen seems to be keeping an eye on things in the second to last photo! She is a beautiful color. How is Mrs. Duck doing, the one who was frozen in the ice?

  6. Actually that is "big boy" the rooster, who tries to get in every picture. :) He is a big pet. His comb got some frost bite during that cold weather. Old Mrs. Duck is doing good. I met her coming up to the house for a treat today, which is a good sign.
